‘The Larkins’ Recap: ‘In Which the Larkins are Determined to Convince Mariette to Stay’

One of the most important moments we will ever experience in life, is the moment that we decide to leave home and strike out on our own. Because when that day arrives, it signals that we are ready to truly become and adult and learn what the world is all about and find ourselves in the process. For it is only out in the world that we really see it for it what it is and where we fit into it. But what’s fascinating about this moment, is that as enticing as it is, and as powerful as it can be… it isn’t always easy to commit to. For leaving home is hard and the prospect of being without our family can be scary for all parties involved and it just so happens that the difficult journey to that big day, served as the focal theme of the next episode of The Larkins.

For when we catch up with the family in ‘In Which the Larkins are Determined to Convince Mariette to Stay’, Pop and Ma and the rest of the fam, simply aren’t ready to let Mariette go. For they truly believe she can find everything she needs at home and in the hopes of convincing her that is the case, they ask her to stick around for a couple more days. A request she can accommodate and with Mariette settling back in, the family goes all out in showing her just how wonderful home can be. For instance, they take the time to treat her like a queen, offering her breakfast in bed often and catering to her every whim. All in the hopes of making her feel wanted and needed and important and the possibility of her leaving, finally motivated Charley to quit goofing around when it comes to his feelings.

Because he finally professed his love for Mariette and informed her of how much she means to him and well, all of these moments were simply fascinating and powerful to watch. Since they truly signified how scary it is for a family to see someone leave home since it does create something of a void in the household and it also showed us, how hard it is to leave home. For the presence of someone that spent years within those walls is gone just like that, and it really isn’t easy for the family and loved ones in the slightest and of course leaving that comfort and others behind is just as tough. But commentary aside, while those gentle acts were enough to express the family’s love and need of Mariette, Pop and Ma were of course… ready to go harder to show Mariette what she’d be missing out upon by leaving. A feat they accomplished, with a bevy of parties.

Such as a festival to allow for Mariette to showcase her skills as a rider and of course, a grandiose cocktail party where everyone in town showed up to express their love and adoration for her. Plus, Pop and Ma even presented Mariette with her own plot of land to spread out and enjoy her independence. But in the end, Mariette knew that the only way to truly understand what home has to offer, was to leave and see the world and enjoy its wonder and once the family realized that there was no holding her back and that she needed to be out in the thick of it for as long as necessary, they said their goodbyes and offered support and respect for her decision. But her journey away from home wasn’t a total shedding of what home has to offer.

For she invited Charley along, so they could explore their newfound love abroad and make new memories together and well, that’s where we leave these lovebirds, out in the world and off to learn about life and find their path as a couple and well, that’s really the perfect way to bring this year’s general adventures to a close. Because this is a series about life, and how it transcends time and how the experiences we endure are more important than history or the moment, since that is what makes the human condition so beautiful and so compelling and well, now that we’ve reached the end of this leg of the family's journey and wait patiently for the show’s Christmas special, the time has come to hope for a second season of this dynamic series. So, the wonder of life can be put on full display once again, courtesy of a happy go lucky family that understands the wonder of enjoying the moment. Until next time.
