If there one particular question that has plagued mankind in this modern era of information, it would have to be… what would we do if we could see into the future? Because for the first time ever, technology is giving us a grand understanding of things to come. For instance, we can now test what types of genetic markers we are prone to, and potentially understand what kind of health issues we will face down the down the line, and it is only a matter of time before we outright know what will happen to us at 64. Which is huge, and incredible, and there will come a day when we can apply that to just about everything else, and people are working on that now. By using predictive AI and algorithms to understand what lie ahead. Which of course, brings us back to that question. Because we’ve never been armed with such knowledge, so what we would do with it? Well, it turns out the perfect place to explore the answer to that question… is the next episode of The Irrational on NBC. For ‘The Wrong Side of Maybe’ saw Alec and his team be immersed in a scary surprise. In that, a data whiz named Laura had built a predictive model regarding the mid-Atlantic railroad system and she came across something horrifying. In that, her predictive models showcased that a massive disaster was brewing. One where people would die and the rail system would burn because the perfect storm was brewing, and she of course, enlisted Alec’s help in the matter and they raced to try and stop this. In part by working to figure out how best to stop the disaster from happening, which they hoped would come easily by showcasing to people in charge the amount of life that could be lost in such a disaster. But that of course, didn’t work, so they pleaded with the public and tried their best to slow things down. Only to learn that such a plea did not help. For other factors were in motion and well, that prompted a deep dive and a Hail Mary to stop this. One that allowed for Kylie to discover that a virus was implanted into certain railroad subsystems… by one of Laura’s executive team. Who saw an opportunity to manipulate the situation and gain financially from making a disaster happen. But thanks to Alec, and his bold decision to literally stand in harm’s way to save lives… that didn’t happen. But what matters most, is how that engaging and intense plot, revealed that if by chance… we could see into tomorrow, it would be as polarizing as anything else in this life, and it would result in chaos. For the irrational minded would seize the opportunity to benefit themselves and their already thick bank accounts in every way imaginable. While others would spend their days combating those actions to keep people safe. Meaning such an incredible discovery, would go nowhere in this life. Because irrational thinking would nullify its progress and put us into a cyclical state of sorts. Which means… it’s best we, as Alec put at the end of this story… just enjoy the moment and do the best we can to thrive within it, and the wonder it can send our way. All of which brought forth, a fascinating ‘what if?’ episode to say the least. One that basically informs us, that while we want the answer to that question to be, that we would use it for good and make the world a better place, we’re just not ready for that yet. We need to grow as a species, and leave our proclivities behind before that happens, otherwise… this is the chaos we would endure, and this show deserves a round of applause for giving us such a thoughtful tale. One that let every character shine, including Phoebe since she came back into the fold, and informed us too that Alec isn’t quite ready to abandon that which defines him and well, all this episode does is leave us eager for more of a series that challenges the human condition like no other show out there. Until next time. Watch ‘The Irrational’
