It is definitely safe to say that fans of the hit SYFY series, SurrealEstate, have been eagerly awaiting the third season of the show for a bevy of reasons. The most obvious one being, that it means more of a story that continues to explore the human condition in a manner that is both refreshing and unique. Plus, it means we all get to spend more time with these amazing characters we love since we relate to all of them on so many levels. But above all, the biggest reason we have been ready for more is because of the fact that the season two finale brought forth great changes for the office, and we were all curious if those changes were going to stick or if the show would find a way to nullify them. Because sometimes, changes like what happened, with August, Zoe, and Phil leaving, quickly end and everyone is reunited under unique circumstances and well, the season three premiere of the show made it clear… that in this universe… change is a constant. For we came to learn in ‘Buckaroo’ that the Roman/Ireland Agency was still without hardcore paranormal specialists and that Zoe was off thriving in her new career and while it was scary, she was happy. Of course, Phil was living the good life working for the Vatican still and August, while finding a sense of stagnancy in his new role, stayed true to his word to see it through to the end. Which truly implied that those lovely characters will play reduced roles this year because of the changes made but will find a way to stay close to our hearts since we adore them. But of course, that kind of shift in the story also left us wondering if by chance… the core tenets of this series would shift as well, and thankfully… that won’t be the case. For we love seeing this agency explore the supernatural and our humanity in doing so, and that was present here through a unique haunting. Wherein a family that bought a lovely home from an insanely rich accountant, named Kirby Yurth, kept seeing the echo of a feisty cowboy who wanted to know where his ‘buckaroo’ went. Which of course, prompted a deep dive from the team, one that revealed that the ghost in that house was Kirby’s father, Brandon, and he was hoping to find his son… for positive reasons. For a reunion with father and son in that house, allowed for dear old dad to impart some amazing wisdom upon his son. The kind that spoke to following one’s dream now, so that life is truly fulfilling, and that made for a beautiful moment and a beautiful lesson for all of us to take to heart. In fact, it impacted Luke deeply. Since he pondered upon moving beyond the stagnancy, he realized he has been mired within in the past three years since the events of ‘Letting Go’, and well… the only question is if he will confront that before or after this season’s big trouble arrives. Because as all of this was going down, something sinister was growing in power. For a rich man named Tyler uncovered something strange on a fishing trip, a stuffed animal with crossed eyes that carried a spirit that possessed him. One that was eager to take vengeance upon Carl Roman. But without Carl being present, it turned its attention to Luke. Setting the stage for a powerhouse confrontation between whatever nightmare this is from the Roman’s past. All of which gave rise to an amazing season premiere. Simply because… this one offered us so much. Since it had all the stuff we love, in fact, that opening really reminded us of how the spiritual core of this show resonates with us, before diving into life lessons about change and the sins and hopes of the father. Of course, it was also amazing to see Zoe thriving and see August do his best to stand tall against nonsense and you also cannot go wrong with a story that sets up personal growth for its main character. Since Luke really is a crossroads and in need of some kind of fulfilment. And it will be interesting to see how he finds that, and of course, see what other lessons and big battles await us as season three of this magnificent series, continues along. Until next time.
