Written by John Edward Betancourt ![]() Caution: This article contains spoilers for the Series Premiere of ‘Suits LA’. We like to believe that in 2025, reinventing ourselves is a simple process, and it makes sense as to why. After all, with the swipe of a thumb, our digital footprint can disappear, and with it… any sour memories of a life that no longer pleases us. Not to mention, with a simple text, we can end any relationship or ties to a person, and of course… we can throw our stuff on the web to sell and hop on a plane with the proceeds and fly anywhere in a matter of hours to be someone else, and to start over fresh and this happens often. Which is why that belief persists. But while it is nice to know we can hit a literal reset button and find a new life and new success along the way, there is an unfortunate truth that accompanies this belief. In that, the reinvention never lasts. For the past always finds a way to catch up to us, and deliver our baggage, and when that happens, we are forced to really understand what it means to reinvent oneself. Which involves, confronting that which made us run in the first place, and resolving it and atoning for the person we are in that moment. For we won’t be at our best, and only then… can we begin to start over and really start fresh, and that truth is top of mind today, simply because it was put on display in the series premiere of Suits LA. A feat that ‘Seven Days a Week and Twice on Sunday’ accomplishes by plunging us into the heart of one of the biggest and hottest law firms in Los Angeles, one run by cutthroat lawyer, Ted Black, and his savvy partner, Stuart Lane, and when we catch up with them and their intrepid team here… it seems as though they’re on easy street. After all, Ted just landed a huge client, a massive merger is on the horizon and soon they’ll be swimming in success. But Ted’s mind is elsewhere, since his father is dying back home in New York and because of that… he’s missed some red flags from his partner. Who has felt disrespected for some time and enacts incredible revenge against Ted. All by stealing half the team and leaving Ted with scraps. A move that leaves Ted reeling for certain and scrambling to keep his firm alive. ![]() But what matters more, is what Ted faces in the wake of this career disaster. In that, it becomes clear that this backlash, all stems from his failed career as a Federal Prosecutor in New York, along with his shattered relationship with his father and a lost love. For when his career and life blew up back east, he came to Los Angeles to escape the pain and escape his past and reinvent himself. But as evidenced here, that can only go so far and what follows in this premiere, is a grand push to heal, to resolve those dark moments. All so Ted can find internal peace and start his reinvention the right way, and what better way to do it, than by rebuilding his now shattered firm into something grand and glorious. All of which brings forth, a supremely fascinating series premiere. Because you just don’t see stories about lawyers, be this intimate in nature and ponder upon issues that impact everyone, really. For we are usually treated to tales that are slick in nature, and feature lawyers that are sharks that can accomplish anything with a little gusto and a hint of deception. But here, Ted is a broken man, one that has been patching the cracks for as long as possible, until he faces that all-powerful reckoning and that’s what invests one into this story. For then he’s as relatable as the rest of us and we want to see what his healing and rebound journey looks like. Especially since he takes on a case that goes against everything he holds dear. All because he understands that his prior path cannot and will not sustain him or help him. But of course, there’s more to this premiere than just a story of reinvention. For buried within this show is much of what we love about the Suits franchise. Since this show harbors the whip smart wit we have come to expect from this series, and its wonderfully frenetic pacing, keeps us engaged and eager to see what lie ahead. Plus, we get to meet some new lawyers that fascinate us and are as grounded and Ted and all of these elements give rise to a satisfying and quality premiere, one that sets quite the stage for certain. Wherein we will see what real reinvention looks like, and all the ups and downs that accompany it, as Ted Black tries to put his life and his career, onto the right track. Until next time.
