When we reach a point in our lives, where we are ready to heal, and ready to reinvent ourselves and move toward a new life and new goals… we find ourselves in quite the unique place. In that, we feel good about our new path, we are ready to walk it… but we simply don’t know what comes next. Because there is no manual for reinvention and no timetable. We just begin to do the work with or without the help of a professional such a therapist, and we more or less… just kind of exist in those early days. Curious as to what lie ahead and well… what lie ahead is just more life, as evidenced by this week’s episode of Suits LA on NBC. For ‘Batman Returns’ basically plunged us into the everyday lives of entertainment lawyers in the world of Los Angeles, and that allowed for us to better get to know these characters and what they stand for, and see Ted begin to get back to work and do what he loves. In fact, Ted was given quite the challenge regarding Lester’s case. For the studio let it be known that they were ready to dump Lester from the credits of his upcoming picture, to be free of any concerns regarding his mess, and it was up to Ted, with Erica’s help, to fix that problem. Which was no easy task. For Lester wanted no compromise on the matter, and that forced Ted to dig deep and think upon how best to approach this and make his client happy and that brought him back to the past. Wherein he pondered upon a true low moment in that particular case, where he felt as he did now, overwhelmed and uncertain of what lie ahead. But back during that time, he spent a little time with the one, the only, Harvey Specter. Who made sure to offer up some fine advice regarding being bold, and being objective, and to trust one’s instincts. Which was advice that helped Ted cool down and keep a level head and assemble a bold plan to not only keep Lester happy, but perhaps win his case in a prompt manner. So, he had Erica help him talk Lester into moving his trial up. Since a faster resolution would keep him attached to his passion project, and once that worked, he tasked Amanda with helping him keep the prosecution from delaying the trial in the slightest, and she was more than happy to help him win that. ![]()
But of course, any win tends to come with curveballs in this life, and the studio threw Ted and Erica several. First by letting it be known they were going to play hardball with their decision and remove Lester regardless of the outcome, and if needed, use the financial reports of the film as hard justification. But Ted and Erica were able to quell that with some hard threats, and when that path failed for the studio, they just promised to bury the film. Which Ted successfully countered, with a massive bluff that scared the studio into compliance. Which was a journey that tied neatly into how life goes on when we are dealing with other matters in our mind. For there was work to done, and a firm to rebuild and ted and Erica weren’t the only ones dealing with that.
For Stuart and Rick had quite the task in front of them. For their client, Enrico Colantoni, managed to get arrested for a pedantic yet funny act. In that, he carved something quite phallic into an annoying neighbor’s hedges and it was up to this duo to make the mess ago away. Which they managed to do, courtesy of an end around on Enrico’s neighbor, and by finding a way to bring them together. But what was truly intriguing during this segment, was that we got that up close and personal look at how these men work. Since we learned that Stuart is a hard ass in every sense of the phrase. One who doesn’t think about decorum, just the endgame. Whereas Rick really is a man of the people and finds new ways to connect with just about everyone around him, and this storyline, definitely served as the more lighthearted journey in the story. Since it was quite hilarious to see Rick and Stuart laugh at Enrico’s foolishness, and it was also amazing to have Enrico play a unique version of himself, one who dropped perhaps the most Galaxy Quest shout outs in the history of pop culture. Which is welcome, because that movie is awesome. But that aside, all of this made for a satisfying tale. One that truly offered up a day in the life, of an entertainment lawyer, and took us on quite the journey. One that reflected some real-world elements of Hollywood, such as having a studio bury a story, and of course… connected these two universes with Gabriel Macht’s triumphant return as Harvey Specter. Which was just a true treat, one that has us eager for more Suits cameos down the line and more moments that showcase how hard Ted, and his friends work to keep their clients happy. Until next time.
