One of the most difficult yet rewarding lessons we must learn in life, is knowing when to give people that we love dearly, the space they need to figure out what they want in life. And what makes that so difficult, is the sheer fact that we want them around, because they add value to our day and our experiences, and we are better for knowing them. But they simply have to find their own path, find their way to us and we have to let that play out so that they understand what we do. That we are on the same wavelength and should be working through life alongside one another and well… this lesson and this epiphany are top of mind today because they were front and center in the next episode of Night Court on NBC. For ‘The Roz Affair’ caught up with the Night Court crew after Dan left for Louisiana to become a judge in his hometown and well… some changes were indeed in play. Since there was a new public defender floating about the courtroom and of course, Neil opted to explore life with his new lady. Meaning that the Court was a bit of a shell of its former self, especially in missing some of its heart in Dan, but his absence was indeed necessity. For Dan needed to really figure out where he belonged in the legal system, and let’s be honest… this was something he has been grappling with for ages and well… the return of an old friend helped him to begin to understand his place and helped Abby to learn… that she did the right thing by letting go. For Roz, the iconic bailiff that once roamed Judge Harry Stone’s courtroom, ran into Dan down Louisiana way, and that gave the two of them a chance to reconnect and a chance for Dan to atone for their own split. Because Roz needed a hand with coming to understand if the woman, she was planning on marrying was faithful to her or not and she used Dan to aid in an investigation regarding such matters. Which brought both of them back into Abby’s courtroom, wherein Dan was forced to face the past and face his path. Because it was more than coincidence that he found himself back in this place and it was also quite the quirk that someone as important to him as Roz was in his life once again. Which helped him to finally realize… that this was where he belonged and that he thrived upon helping others in some capacity. So, he relinquished his gavel and returned. Which truly hammered home how we have to let people we care about find their way, and find their path, no matter how long it takes. Because that’s the only way for them to understand what they really have in life, and where they should be, and this episode deserves credit for letting that journey play out the way it did and for presenting how tough that can be for us. Since Abby clearly wanted to say more and do more regarding this. But really sat back and let Dan learn his lessons and find his way home. Bringing the dynamic back together and giving rise to a new era for the court. With everyone in place and comfortable. Since Gurgs also made it clear this was where she wanted to be and wasn’t ready to expand her horizons just yet and Olivia came to realize she’s a better prosecutor than anything else and to embrace that role and forget about being a sports agent. All of which brought forth a wonderfully heartwarming and human journey. One that stayed true to the humanity put on display in season one of this dynamic show and it was one… that brought back a true Night Court legend. Because it was just amazing to see Marsha Warfield return to the courtroom as Roz and come to learn she hasn’t missed a beat when it comes to her comedic chops. Because she played off of John Larroquette and everyone nicely and outright left us laughing on a regular basis and well, this was just a delightful way to officially kick off season two of the show. Since we got a touch of nostalgia, the patented intelligence this show is now known for, and some good chuckles along the way, and it will be interesting to see what fun and lessons lie ahead now that court is back in session. Until next time. Watch ‘Night Court’
