If there is one thing we all search for during the holiday season, it is the perfect gift for those we love. Because we know, deep down, that finding them a present that is indeed everything they could ever want, brings them great joy and a sense of belonging that few experience. And well… what’s fascinating about this quest, is that sometimes… it is not easy. Since there are just years where it seems our loved ones have it all or the perfect gift just seems elusive depending upon the vibe, and while the thought always counts… we just want it to be just right. If anything, that difficult search for the perfect gift and the fight we go through to find it is top of mind today, because it is featured in the next episode of Night Court on NBC. A feat that ‘Feliz NaviDead’ accomplished, by plunging us into our favorite courtroom in the midst of the holiday season, where Judge Abby Stone wanted something special to happen this season. In that, she wanted the team to join her in a murder-mystery themed escape room. For teambuilding and fun, because memories made with people she adored, was Abby’s idea of the perfect holiday gift, and all that was needed to bring it forth, was the impossible. For the team needed to get done early on this night to make that happen and well, Flobert was filling in for Julianne while she handled some personal moments and his slow nature to each case would make a quick night difficult. Not to mention, a brand-new coat that embroiled Wyatt and Gurgs in a little fashion clash also slowed things down in the courtroom. Which left Abby worried that they simply would not make it to the escape room in time for fun, and well, those worries only grew when Fred Norton walked in. For Fred was hired to conduct a murder mystery event and caused quite a ruckus when he would not break character, and his shenanigans in the courtroom, brought the evening to a complete halt. To the point where the police were called in, to get him to cooperate. But Fred would not. He simply held to character, and nothing could be done with the case until he let loose and could enter a plea and speak to the case. Which prompted Abby to go the extra mile in solving this mess, by asking everyone to simply play along. So that the murder mystery would end, and her plans could come into play and well, that was an outright disaster. Mainly because no one was willing to play along, despite dressing up appropriately for this. Prompting Abby to act out the whole routine to end this, and even then… the party ended in a wild manner. Since Fred turned up dead. But in the end, he was in fact, okay, simply because Abby had a sneaking suspicion this was staged to further delay the joy, so she set up a surprise ending to catch Dan in the act of ruining this. But alas, it was about giving her the perfect gift. For Dan set up the whole thing with Fred, and did so, so Abby could have her murder mystery and make her memories, and she most certainly did. All of which spoke, to how we go to great lengths to create the perfect holiday gift. Since Dan straight up created what Abby wanted to give her joy and suffered through pretending to be a sweet Southern Belle to do so. Since he knew this courtroom well and knew things would get weird because they always do, and that made for a sweet episode. One that really did speak to the reason and the wonder of the season, and was as funny as can be. Because Dan as a Belle was amazing, as was Melissa Rauch’s one-woman murder mystery show performance. Not to mention the cameos from Jo Lo Truglio and Andy Daly as the fake Detective Kratz, and Fred respectively, were incredible. Since those two just let loose and had fun and fooled us and made us laugh every step of the way, and truly… this was just a great holiday episode. One that even tipped its cap to some of the zanier moments in the franchise, courtesy of that ending. One reminiscent of Bull’s journey in the original show’s series finale, because that’s just what you get when you spend a little time at Night Court, and this lovely tale should tide us over, until the series returns on January 14, 2025. Wherein we will enjoy more goodwill and good jokes from this dynamic series. Until next time. Watch ‘Night Court’
