When we are young, specifically those precious teenage years where we are basically inching toward adulthood, we simply cannot wait to turn 18. Because we know that means complete and utter freedom in our lives. No more being told when to go to bed, when to do homework. We can just live a little and see the world in a greater capacity than before. Sure, college is on the horizon too, but even then… we are still our own person. Someone who only answers to the rules we write. So, we push hard to be ready to be free, to the point where we are a touch rebellious in nature. Only for us to learn years later that such a push was foolish. For freedom brings responsibility and weight, and truly, if we could go back and tell ourselves that… it would change a few things. If anything, that period in our lives is top of mind today, simply because it was featured in this week’s episode of Mythic Quest on Apple TV+. For ‘Rebrand’ took a minute to step away from the chaos happening at the office, to take us on a journey with someone going through that moment in time. Because Pootie_Shoe was back in the spotlight, mainly because… he wanted his life to change. For he felt burned out over his current life and thought perhaps a little freedom would help. So, he asked his mother, Shannon, about emancipation. To finally have that, and in order to enjoy true freedom and adulthood, he also thought now was the right time for a rebrand of his online persona. A decision that made things tense with his representatives. Since Spencer (played brilliantly by Charlie Day in his Mythic Quest debut), the top guy on his team, really advised against it. Out of the belief it would go south and of course, cause all kinds of controversy and problems with his mega streaming deal. But Pootie was convinced this was the right path. So, he picked a fight with LOL_Trevor, an actual… MMA fight, to secure enough viewers and money to be free of that contract. Which led to a tense reunion with his dad, but a fruitful one, since Ian put up the dough to get him an MMA legend to train him. All so, Pootie could win and wipe away that Masked Man shame and achieve his goals. But alas, LOL_Trevor was now an actual beast of a man and handled Pootie with minimal fuss. Which led to humiliation, but enough money to make that freedom happen. Where he could finally be an adult and make his own decisions and expand his streaming empire into something new. But a powerful chat with Spencer informed him… to slow things down. To think about the moment and the wonder of being seventeen for a little while longer. Since it would never come again, and that refocused Pootie on his life as it stood and gave him a chance to just be a teenager for a bit and enjoy the ride before adulthood did its thing. All of which made, for a refreshing and thought-provoking episode for certain. One that really did remind us that our youth is special, and whether or not it turned out as we wanted, we can always take a moment and just be present and enjoy the best parts of where we are at. Because that always offers clarity and gratitude. But while this story was filled with tender moments and big lessons, make no mistake about it, it was damn funny. For once again, Alanna Ubach killed it as Shannon, with her impeccable line delivery and just outright comedic timing, and Charlie Day’s debut was simply stunning. Especially that speech he delivered at the end to Pootie, since that just reminded us of his talents, and hopefully he finds a way to return. But alas, now that this palate cleanser is complete, that means we’re back to the chaos as we inch toward the end of this brilliant season of storytelling. Until next time. Watch ‘Mythic Quest’
