One particularly interesting quirk about adulthood, is that as adults… we are a bit hypocritical at times. Especially when it comes to what we teach children. For we tell them one thing, then do another, and quickly justify that action by asking kids to be better than we are. But alas, all that teaches them, is that it is okay to indulge in behavior that is unbecoming as long we have an out, and well… clearly… that’s something we should not do. We should practice what we preach at all times, and really show children the right way and well, this lesson is top of mind today, because it was on display in the next episode of Lopez vs Lopez on NBC. For ‘Lopez vs Deadline’ saw the house in the midst of emotional chaos. For several reasons. For Chance was entering his honesty phase. Wherein cutting statements came into play and wounded everyone. Since he made Rosie feel old, Quinten feel as though he needed to update his look, and that his mother, Mayan… needed to work on her skin care routine. Which plunged all of them into a tailspin, one that prompted one of them… to take it out on George’s latest venture. Which was to enjoy the foods that an air fryer could prepare. For someone smashed his fryer to bits and prompted George to begin his own investigation into who commit such a heinous crime, with minimal results. Mainly because everyone had their alibi. Since everyone was working on what Chance pointed out. Which led to a grand gambit on George’s behalf, wherein he used Chance as bait to get all three of them, to admit to smashing his machine. Which was a shocker but spoke to the central theme. After all, this entire episode had the adults doing one thing while saying another. For they told Chance to not be as honest, and to respect other’s feelings as needed. But at the same time, they were ignoring George’s and letting simple words get to them and being rude in the process. Which sent mixed messages to Chance and that did not need to be the case. For in reality, all of this could have been avoided with some simple edicts from the adults. In that, they could have better explained to Chance how honesty works, and what words should be said and they of course… should have showcased the power of words by explaining how his words hurt them. Because he did indeed cut deep, and they did show the wrong way to handle things by listening to his advice and lashing out. But in the end, they got there, and they got there with George by doing the right thing. Which did help and of course… that’s all we can do sometimes, is pick up the pieces and do right by others after we’ve hurt them. All of which led though, to a wonderfully complex episode for certain. One that really did explore this in a manner, that was super realistic. Because we’ve seen our parents do this, hell, they did it to us. Not to mention, we’ve done it to our kids. Because in the end, we are all flawed and all trying to do our best, but it is nice to be reminded how and when to take the high road. So that we don’t make this a habit, and that led to one thoughtful tale. One that truly challenged the audience in a healthy manner, while offering up some laughs upon the way. Since it was funny to see the responses to Chance’s biting words, and George’s quest for justice here, was pretty phenomenal and quirky. All of which just reminds us that this show is special and meaningful, and it will be interesting to see what other complex lessons await us when the show returns in 2025. Until next time.
