When we last settled in to discuss the dynamic and brilliant, WE tv series, Kold x Windy, we talked at length about how the series premiere did a wonderful job of setting the stage for a story that was going to explore the gritter side of chasing one’s dream. Such as how it isn’t some easy breezy process, and that it is in fact, tough work. The kind that sometimes requires great change, both external and internal. So, we can properly embrace what’s to come when the success starts rolling in and it is important to revisit those key concepts, simply because the next episode in this fascinating saga was quick to explore the change aspect of chasing one’s dream… and why people find that to be so difficult to embrace. For when we caught up with Malika and Renee in, ‘What You Gon’ Do?’, they were mired in personal conflict. Because both of them were struggling mightily with their current situation. After all, Renee’s mind was plagued with terrible dreams, full of implications, that were clearly grounded in Post-Traumatic Stress and trauma. But despite that… and understanding that things needed to change, and quickly, because of how hard this life was on her mind, body, and soul, she kept on course. Because this is the life she’s known through and through, and the thought of giving it up to focus on something vastly different, struck terror into her. Giving us a grand understanding of the conflict that internally arises when change is presented to us, and she wasn’t the only one that dealt with this. Because Malika also struggled with letting go and embracing her talents. In large part, because the Stains she committed to… made life quite comfortable. After all, she was raking in the dough in this particular tale, with Stains that were netting her tens of thousands of dollars. But GeGe made it clear that this life and these Stains weren’t providing her with anything worthwhile or fulfilling. The music was though, and despite still writing great tracks and learning more about music along the way, which clearly energized her… she kept to old habits, too. All of which allowed for us to learn how scary change can be to an individual. Because the thought of giving up what we know, what’s sustained us, is unfathomable at the start of the journey. Especially when we haven’t found a sense of self-worth. Because that forces us to wonder if… we even deserve what change will bring. And of course, routine, and old habits are always hard to break. Which of course begs the question, what then is the catalyst to snapping us out of those worries to move forward in a positive light? Well, as it turns out… sometimes seeing what we are capable of and enjoying a sliver of happiness from enacting change… can serve as that genesis point and these ladies that had opportunity here, courtesy of Pop. Who continued to do as he pleased and when challenged, did the one thing no man should ever do… hit a woman. Specifically, Malika in this case, and well… Renee wasn’t going to let that stand and neither was Malika and that motivated them to concoct quite the plan. One that saw Pop take the fall for the murder that Renee committed in the last episode. Giving rise to agency for both women and a fine understanding that when they aren’t happy and put their minds to it… they can enact great change in their lives. The kind that provides them with so much more. Hopefully, that lesson sticks and these two can begin to make small changes that lead to greater changes. The kind that will help them embrace their talents and their skills, and the joy and happiness and peace the dream will bring them, and that will still be no easy task. After all, doubt is a powerful influencer, and externally, the police are very curious about Kold and Windy’s dealings and are watching them closely and of course… Shelley wants revenge. But while we wait to see how our heroes handle those problems, we can bask in the wonder of another powerful tale. One that really did explore the terror that change instills and how hard it is to step away from what we know, despite having the knowledge that we need to do something different, and that only adds to the wonder of this series. One that truly is honest and real and refreshing and original and sadly… all we can do now is wait impatiently for next Thursday. So, we can see what stunning lessons await when Kold and Windy return to the airwaves. Until next time.
