When we last settled in to discuss the wondrously engaging Acorn TV series, Hidden Assets, we talked at length about how mistakes from the villains could prove to be costly, and there was worry expressed regarding the fate of Wallace, and Bibi as well. For Bibi’s work had helped to expose Cline and his actions and it also put Bibi and others in danger, the kind that was quickly resolved in the next episode of this story. For some quick support and good news that Bibi lived, prompted Cline to slink back into the shadows, and that move allowed for his mistake to come back to haunt everyone that sided with evil, really. Because Bibi was ready to offer up more information to tie Swann and the business to the bombing. All by letting CAB know that they need to keep an eye on a man named Hurst. Who was, in essence, a cleaner of sorts. Who laundered money for the business and handled all of its nefarious cash ties, and well… getting him in custody could do wonders for the whole case. Which prompted her to stand as bait and send a message to Hurst so that he could be cornered by the police and brought down properly, and well… that first leg of the plan went great. Because he was quick to respond to the ‘request’ from Bibi to clean out her accounts and he was shockingly okay with a legal representative coming by to pick up that money, which meant… the team was off to Antwerp to meet Hurst and well, that led to a stunningly intense sequence of events. Because once they arrived in Antwerp to meet this man, which Wallace was taking the lead on, they had to improvise quickly and they even got involved in an outright chase. Because Hurts took every precaution, to the point where Wallace didn’t even get alone time outside of using the bathroom. Because Hurst was that paranoid and thorough. But that bathroom break was enough to get a wire going and eventually, Hurst and his shaky and shady outfit was placed under arrest. Granted, there’s a still long road ahead, since he made it clear he wants to invoke his right to remain silent, and the same went for his team. But Cline’s mistake paid off in spades and moved the case along, as did De Long’s actions in this tale. For he pushed hard here to reopen the case based on what happened in Ireland and was granted that wish. Which allowed for a mostly boring search and seizure of Melnick’s properties to take place, but it was progress, nevertheless. Not to mention, the truth about Melnick, and De Long’s earnest desire to serve justice, allowed for Melnick’s son to hand over critical personal effects, including personal devices. But alas, while that brought about progress, it was quickly stalled thanks to Mila. Because she was working overtime to sabotage every effort to reveal the truth, and despite nearly getting caught in her efforts to help Swann, she soldiered on. Giving rise to more understandable chaos and desperation from the forces of evil tale. After all, they don’t want to be caught, so fighting back despite having things fall apart makes total sense and makes… for some amazing television. Simply because that fight provided us with an intense story. Complete with high stakes and chases and moments where it seemed the baddies would get away. But despite the pressure and despite the setbacks, real progress was made here, and the pressure continues to build. Which means, there is a fair chance that the bad people in this story will continue to make stupid mistakes. The kind that will finally lead to real justice and a proper closing to a case that has haunted our heroes for far too long. Until next time. Watch ‘Hidden Assets’
