There is one particular concern that hopeful parents and new parents harbor as they come closer and closer to holding their baby in their arms. In that, they all worry about whether or not they are going to be good parents, and that is a fair worry. Because everyone knows that raising a child is no simple task, and it can and will take some crazy turns, and there is so much chaos and so many split-second decisions that must be made… that said worry is justified. Since we now know that the wrong words in the wrong moment, could have a grave impact upon a child’s psyche down the line. Or that just being human and having tough days can also have an impact upon one’s child, and potentially make us, bad parents that put our kid in therapy. But how does one get over such a worry? Because once the baby arrives, there’s no time to think upon such matters… there is only action and having that worry hang over one’s head is unappealing for certain. Well, it just so happens that Happy’s Place on NBC explored that very question during this week’s episode. A feat that ‘Baby Doll’ accomplished by following up on a plot thread introduced earlier this year. For it wasn’t that long ago that Gabby made it known that she wanted a baby, and well, she decided the time had come to start practicing what her life might be like as a single mother. So, she purchased a lifelike baby simulator doll. Which at first, made it seem as though that central theme wasn’t going to be part of this episode at all. Because it wasn’t long before Gabby wanted others to spend time with the baby. Which brought forth some solid laughs since Steve took a liking to the little guy, and so did Emmett. Who even made a bandana for the little tyke to wear. And of course, Bobbie treated the kiddo as the device that it was, since she stuffed it into a drawer when it started crying and even tossed it about like a tiny football when the moment was right. Which brought forth a smidge of regret when Gabby let it be known that she was scoring how well the team took care of the baby, courtesy of sensors in its fleshy chassis. But when Bobbie scored the highest, despite sending the baby sky high, Gabby became instantly upset and just headed home for the day. Which prompted a visit to Gabby from Bobbie and Isabella, wherein they learned… she was terrified of being a bad mother. Because her best score with the kid was average at best and she really did begin to wonder if she was qualified to be a mom and had no idea how to convince herself otherwise. But Bobbie found a way to showcase, the answer to that important question posed. In that, you won’t know everything as a new parent, and you certainly cannot be perfect. But there is an instinct and understanding we all carry inside of us that helps us to be the parent that our children need us to be, and as long as we follow that… and love them and nurture them and teach them right… they’ll be okay. All of which made for a lovely tale for certain. One that gave Gabby the peace she needed and undoubtedly helped a few audience members along the way. Courtesy of some good jokes no less. Because it was hilarious to see Steve warm up to doll and work to be a good dad, and the same goes for Emmett and the whole sequence in the office was classic comedy for certain. That helped to give rise to another balanced story from this series. Since it does do a wonderful job of giving us the right mix of great life lessons and solid laughs, and that mix will make the wait for next week’s episode as tough as can be. Since we’re ready for more of it, from this lovely series that truly celebrates the beauty and the absurdity of life. Until next time. Watch ‘Happy’s Place’
