One thing that we can begrudgingly agree upon, is that we’ve all taken part in some kind of obsession. It might have been innocent in nature, such as collecting an uncomfortable number of Pogs or losing our minds over a particular band… or it might have been unhealthy in nature. To the point where we endured a strong talk with ourselves and others regarding it since it was getting uncomfortable and untenable to maintain. But regardless of which one we indulged in; the key element here is that this observation is made in past tense. For there came a point where we realized that this wasn’t worth chasing anymore or that it could have been destructive to our mental health and life, and we stopped cold in our tracks and learned a great deal in the process. But what is fascinating about our world, is that some never quite learn that lesson. In fact, their obsession is so powerful and compelling and fulfilling in some way, that they will stop at nothing to have it take over their lives and that ugly reality regarding obsession is top of mind today… because it was explored in great detail in the next episode of Chloe on Prime Video. For when catch up with Becky Green in ‘Out of Reach’, she’s at a crossroads. Where she could in fact, back away regarding her obsession with Chloe and enjoy the taste of her life that she sought… or go all in and try to life the life that her hero led and well, when faced with more strife and sorrow in her everyday life, she chooses the latter option. To the point where she sabotages work for others to get closer to Livia and ingratiate herself into her work and she even takes out loans to look as though she belongs in that upper echelon of society… all so that she can be part of this world and enjoy its spoils. For she really believes somehow this will heal her, but there are warning signs regarding her plan in this tale. Since Josh continues to poke at her now that he knows what she is up to, keeping her moment’s away from potentially blowing her cover and also… there are moments in this episode where it is briefly clear to her, that this isn’t going to heal anything within her soul. For the ritzy life that Chloe lived within can be just as vapid as the one she thinks she is leaving behind… but she is so hell bent on making Sasha’s life a replica of Chloe’s, out of the belief that this will make her life better all around, that she takes her plans to a whole new level. The kind that involves ingratiating herself with Elliot to learn more about her hero and to experience Chloe’s life quite frankly, truly in every way imaginable. Which brings her into Chloe’s former home and allows for her to seemingly feel Chloe through Elliot’s words and to… physically experience what the dearly departed enjoyed in life. By outright having sex with Eliot and Becky’s obsession didn’t end there. For she even stole from the house and poured over Chloe’s belongings for clues, and well, that is… a powerful way to explore the central theme here. Since it perfectly demonstrates the darker side of obsession and how far people willing are go to obtain it when they think it will heal them. Not to mention, Becky's actions also explored what happens when obsession is left unchecked and unregulated… and in the hands of someone without a support network or anything to look forward to in life and that makes for a terrifying ending to this tale. Because Becky is consistently enabled in this tale, even by Josh, and that will only allow for her obsession to grow stronger in the days to come. To the point where things might get dangerous for her mental health because there’s no way she can maintain this. Not to mention, this story also takes a dark turn with some of its hints regarding Chloe’s death. For there is clearly more to that conversation between Becky and Chloe that we aren’t aware of, courtesy of what appears to be an active choice on Becky’s part to suppress that truth, and that… really does compel one to continue this incredible tale. So we can learn more from its raw and powerful examination on obsession, and to see what comes next. For what happened here will undoubtedly serve a gateway to darker moments, as Becky continues to plunge herself into a life and a world where she doesn’t belong. Until next time.
