'Blunt Talk' Recap: 'How Is It That Every Conversation We Have Comes Back to the Size of Your Penis'10/24/2016 Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...I have to admit that I was thoroughly surprised by this week's episode of Blunt Talk for one glaring reason...the fact that this entire episode made me feel uncomfortable. It wasn't from any kind of massive paradigm shift in the design of the show, or some kind of 'jumping the shark' moment, it was simply from the fact that this particular episode, 'How Is It That Every Conversation We Have Comes Back to the Size of Your Penis' shattered the harmony and unity that we have come to enjoy from our characters, by putting conflict front and center in the story from the most unlikely of sources, Harry and Walter. You read that right, the closest of friends on this show, men who fought in combat in the Falklands and bonded in a way few of us will ever understand, found themselves at a crossroads last night. It seems that Walter simply had enough of Harry's romance with Sylvia, feeling that she was becoming a priority over anything else and put forth an ultimatum; that Sylvia must move out and that in essence, Harry must make quite the choice, his love...or the Major. One would expect that Harry's choice would be an easy one, find a place for Sylvia to live and keep Walter happy, but instead...he surprised us all. He chose to leave with Sylvia, stepping out from under the Major's thumb and finding refuge across the way at Ronnie's house. While it was a shocking move to say the least, and one that should have ended with hurt feelings and a healthy dose of resentment toward one another, the bad blood between these two was just starting to come to a boil. Because in addition to moving into Ronnie's house, Harry took a job as the porn director's valet, a move that left Walter stunned when he accompanied Ronnie to the UBS offices for a discussion with the company's lawyers in the ongoing battle to see Blunt Cock removed from circulation. It's clear the move hurt Walter deeply, however, he was not without fault for that matter either, since Herschel was more than happy to try and take Harry's place and tend to all of Walter's needs, and Walter let him fill that role without question and really when all is said and done, this was just plain heartbreaking. To see these two fight over something so silly just ate at me while watching this particular episode because they are supposed to be better men than this. But, the episode was not without plenty of laughs and lighthearted moments. Herschel once again had some of the best one liners of the night, in fact his comment on Harry being like a salt lick was so out of left field that I had to pause the episode and take a moment to work the giggles out of my system and you know what? We really need to take a moment and talk about the wonder of Martin and Shelly because during the heavier moments that Blunt Talk has offered up this year, their little breakaway vignettes are perfect comedic relief. Not to mention, actors Karan Soni (Martin) and Mary Holland (Shelly) simply have incredible chemistry and watching them banter together is an absolute joy and this week featured their finest work to date and I hope the show continues to find ways to sneak them into the mix like this. In the end however, despite the fact that this episode brought plenty of discomfort to the table last night, one cannot forget that this is something we should expect from this show. Blunt Talk may be a rip roaring comedy, but it is always grounded in reality, and well...as a peer from this site, Shae, once said to me in the sagest of fashion, people fight. Conflict is inevitable, it's simply a fact of life that we won't see eye to eye from time to time and it's really about settling down and working it out and well...the first part of that statement applies to Harry and Walter, now it's about the two of them finding that common ground and resolving it so they can continue to be the best of friends because let's be honest, they need one another. Either way, kudos once again to this show for putting another slice of life on display and in a way another cliffhanger because I'm dying to see this series get to the part where Walter and Harry fix this mess. Until next time.
