It is definitely safe to say that new managers in any industry, all share the same hopes and dreams in their first days on the job. For instance, they are absolutely eager to make a positive impact upon their new associates and they are beyond eager to earn their respect and be a leader they can trust. Not to mention, they want their many ideas to go over well and be embraced by the team. But above all, they just want to be liked, and they want their transition into a new role to be smooth and painless so they can be the best boss that they can be, and sadly… they quickly see those hopes and dreams shattered before their eyes. Because they are rarely walking into a perfect situation where they are taking over for say, an experienced and retired individual that ran their division with attention and love. They’re walking into chaos and dealing with bad morale and picking up all kinds of pieces and that makes for a tough road ahead. One that only the best of managers can navigate since they find a way to make their wantlist happen in a different manner, as evidenced by the next episode of Berlin ER on Apple TV+. For ‘Diagnosis’ saw Dr. Parker try to take charge of the ER and bring about great change, only to be met with hideous resistance. Simply because everyone had their own way of doing things in this place and that brought about, more chaos in the ER. Wherein most of her rules were quickly tossed to the wayside in some form or fashion. Either by way of drugs moving about without permission when they were supposed to be distributed with more scrutiny, or by straight up insubordination and incompetence. Because some of the staff struggled to even complete their duties and others just did not care what she had to say and that led to a tough episode for Dr. Parker. One where she had to figure out a way to be the boss and be in charge, and that led… to some epic moments from her for certain. The kind where she started to get what she wanted. Granted, it took a firing to get that process started, and making a deal with Dr. Ertan to free her from the hospital. But people started to listen, and people started to rally around her, with Ertan’s prompting, and just like that… a leader was born in the ER. All of which spoke to how tough it is to become a true leader in a place that is beyond broken and how much work goes into establishing what a new boss wants. But while that made for a solid lesson for certain, there were still more important moments to be found in this story. Since our favorite paramedics saw some rough stuff on the streets, and their work hinted at the possibility that some hard work lies ahead for this ER team. Since that new drug is no joke and for the first time ever, we saw Ben be held accountable in his own special way. Since Parker’s push to lock down the ER made him face the reality that he needs to get sober, and while he only received a taste of that, and still stuck with some toxic work, it was nice to see him finally start to see beyond his sometimes-ugly behavior. All of which made, for another amazing episode from this series. For this one not only offered up what we loved about the first two episodes, by showcasing life in the ER in the raw, but it made sure to add more character development and growth, which is essential to a great story, and we learned a lot here about these individuals and we care about them even more. Which will have us counting down the minutes until next week’s episode, to see what new challenges await them in this chaotic environment. Until then. Watch ‘Berlin ER’
