Written by Scott EdwardsTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...![]() After watching a host destroy itself before her very eyes, Elsie is ready to take her research to the next level to find out what is really going on with the bots. But when her next round of checks are ready to be put in, Theresa and her team decide to take over the investigation. Not doing anything to stop Theresa, Bernard takes Elsie away from the situation knowing that she will find something that she should not know about. While being upset about the situation, Elsie knows one thing for sure, that everyone in the park has their own motives and right now, she is not part of any of them. After stumbling into William’s camp, Dolores starts to remember more things from her past and without a reset this time, she knows that her family is dead. Riding with William and Logan on their hunt for an outlaw, Dolores stops and talks with Lawrence’s daughter who knows something about the maze that Bernard told her about. Before she is able to put it together however, she is approached by a local law man who wants to take her back to town, but when William sees this, he makes sure that the other bot knows that she is with him. With little quips from William about who and what she really is, Dolores is starting to find out that maybe her life is not what it she thinks it is and needs to find a way to know what her fractured path has in store for her. Maeve is seeing things more clearly now, not in the town but in her head as the visions are getting stronger. Seeing strange beings in unusual dress keeping her under the lights, she leaves the main floor and draws the images in her mind. Unlocking her secret compartment and discovering that her creations are identical to others that she has drawn, she knows that there is some fact to it. When a tribe moves through the streets and she sees a doll fall out that resembles some of her art, Maeve is starting to be able to put some pieces together, but needs more information and there is only one person that she can get information out of, the dreaded outlaw Hector. Stopping the killer in his tracks, Maeve finds out that the natives have a name for these beings calling them the Shade, and they are creatures that only those that travel between life and death can see. Seeing these men in her own visions and being able to prove that she has been shot in a previous lifetime, Maeve has found out that nothing in this life really matters. ![]() The Man in Black is on the hunt for the entrance to the maze and has found a new clue as he has stumbled upon Armistice’s hideout. Seeing the full tattoo of a snake on the woman, she is the one that holds the key to what he wants to know. Being able to join the gang for a short time, The Man in Black is able to convince her to tell him everything, but he will have to break Hector out of prison before the transaction can be fulfilled. Knowing how the park works, The Man in Black is able to complete his end of the bargain with ease and by not losing his friend Lawrence on the way, the location of the maze is in his sights as he is ready to complete the last level of the game that he has spent his vacation looking for. After leaving another encounter with Bernard, Theresa is able to get a sit down with Dr. Ford and voice her concerns for the park and what the board will want to hear. With his storylines taking the hosts way off base, she is worried that something can go wrong and nobody wants to see that from the cash cow. Taking Theresa to one of the oldest parts of the park for lunch, Ford reassures her that everything is fine and the storyline will play out as designed, but when she tries to strong arm him, his true feelings come bubbling to the surface. With many administrators coming and going from the park, she is no different and Ford knows everything about her, like the table where she sat as a child and her closed door relationship with Bernard. With a guarantee that everything is going according to plan, Ford will continue to run the park the way he sees fit and nobody will be able to tell him otherwise. Damn, tensions are starting to get heated in Westworld, and yet, we do not know what the endgame is supposed to be. Looking at new construction in the park that Ford is working on, massive earth moving machines are tearing up the countryside and an army of hosts are digging as well. Is it an expansion or a mass grave? We may not know for a while. Maeve is becoming a focal point of the story since she is able to recall much more about her past, especially after seeing the cleaning bin for dead hosts and waking up on the operating table with a bullet left in her body. With everything that she has seen in the past and present, the rules are off of the table for her now and she might be the first host to take matters into her own hands. Dolores is having the same type of flashes as well, but for different reasons and being part of William’s hunt, she wants to help, but is starting to find out that there is something to the maze that Bernard told her about in their previous session. We also get to see The Man in Black at his best again, and there is actually something more to him than just the usual murdering sprees we are witness to. Killing may not be the only thing that happens in the park as talk about the other creator of Westworld comes into play and the secret behind that maze is baiting more than one person to find it before their time runs out.

'Blunt Talk' Recap: 'How Is It That Every Conversation We Have Comes Back to the Size of Your Penis'10/24/2016 Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...![]() I have to admit that I was thoroughly surprised by this week's episode of Blunt Talk for one glaring reason...the fact that this entire episode made me feel uncomfortable. It wasn't from any kind of massive paradigm shift in the design of the show, or some kind of 'jumping the shark' moment, it was simply from the fact that this particular episode, 'How Is It That Every Conversation We Have Comes Back to the Size of Your Penis' shattered the harmony and unity that we have come to enjoy from our characters, by putting conflict front and center in the story from the most unlikely of sources, Harry and Walter. You read that right, the closest of friends on this show, men who fought in combat in the Falklands and bonded in a way few of us will ever understand, found themselves at a crossroads last night. It seems that Walter simply had enough of Harry's romance with Sylvia, feeling that she was becoming a priority over anything else and put forth an ultimatum; that Sylvia must move out and that in essence, Harry must make quite the choice, his love...or the Major. One would expect that Harry's choice would be an easy one, find a place for Sylvia to live and keep Walter happy, but instead...he surprised us all. He chose to leave with Sylvia, stepping out from under the Major's thumb and finding refuge across the way at Ronnie's house. While it was a shocking move to say the least, and one that should have ended with hurt feelings and a healthy dose of resentment toward one another, the bad blood between these two was just starting to come to a boil. Because in addition to moving into Ronnie's house, Harry took a job as the porn director's valet, a move that left Walter stunned when he accompanied Ronnie to the UBS offices for a discussion with the company's lawyers in the ongoing battle to see Blunt Cock removed from circulation. It's clear the move hurt Walter deeply, however, he was not without fault for that matter either, since Herschel was more than happy to try and take Harry's place and tend to all of Walter's needs, and Walter let him fill that role without question and really when all is said and done, this was just plain heartbreaking. To see these two fight over something so silly just ate at me while watching this particular episode because they are supposed to be better men than this. But, the episode was not without plenty of laughs and lighthearted moments. Herschel once again had some of the best one liners of the night, in fact his comment on Harry being like a salt lick was so out of left field that I had to pause the episode and take a moment to work the giggles out of my system and you know what? We really need to take a moment and talk about the wonder of Martin and Shelly because during the heavier moments that Blunt Talk has offered up this year, their little breakaway vignettes are perfect comedic relief. Not to mention, actors Karan Soni (Martin) and Mary Holland (Shelly) simply have incredible chemistry and watching them banter together is an absolute joy and this week featured their finest work to date and I hope the show continues to find ways to sneak them into the mix like this. In the end however, despite the fact that this episode brought plenty of discomfort to the table last night, one cannot forget that this is something we should expect from this show. Blunt Talk may be a rip roaring comedy, but it is always grounded in reality, and well...as a peer from this site, Shae, once said to me in the sagest of fashion, people fight. Conflict is inevitable, it's simply a fact of life that we won't see eye to eye from time to time and it's really about settling down and working it out and well...the first part of that statement applies to Harry and Walter, now it's about the two of them finding that common ground and resolving it so they can continue to be the best of friends because let's be honest, they need one another. Either way, kudos once again to this show for putting another slice of life on display and in a way another cliffhanger because I'm dying to see this series get to the part where Walter and Harry fix this mess. Until next time. Written by Scott EdwardsTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...![]() With Luke Cage nowhere to be found and with Mariah’s promise to help him sell his guns to the police, Diamondback is ready to up the stakes. With a super punching glove, Diamondback takes to the streets and finds one unsuspecting police officer and sends him flying twenty feet in the air, but there is one difference between this punch and one from Luke Cage as the officer winds up dead. Screaming out that his name is Luke Cage as he flees the scene, the police turn up the heat on bringing the Power Man out of hiding, but not in the way that will win them any points with the community. Waking up from his surgery, Luke gets an offer from Dr. Burstein that he did not expect. With his body’s rejuvenation power, the doctor would like to keep him around and run some more tests that could better mankind, but Luke has other things to do before submitting to such a process. Being able to read the files on the flash drive, Luke wants to know what Reva was hiding from him and finding the video files, he is surprised at what he is watching. Seeing Reva tracking his every step at Seagate, it was all a set up and Luke was always destined to get the treatment and she was lying to him all along. Getting over the loss of the woman he thought he loved, Luke returns home and tries to find out the secret behind what Diamondback was saying and comes to the conclusion that his old friend is telling him the truth, Willis Stryker is Luke Cage’s brother. With the madness that has taken over Harlem after seeing a young boy being beaten by a police officer, Misty is ready to uncover exactly who the man is that threatened her life. Matching the face of the man who killed the cop to the man that held her at gun point, Misty wants to know who this Willis Stryker really is. Talking to Domingo about the mystery man and what might have happened to the other crime bosses around the city, she is pointed to Harlem’s Paradise, since it is of course under new management. Needing to tie Stryker to what has been happening around Harlem may become more of a problem however as he is waiting for a visit from his new friends at any time. After being called in to see a young beaten boy in the police station, Mariah is ready to use all of her power to turn the community against the police and Luke Cage. Taking her word public against Luke Cage for killing her cousin and referring to the dash cam footage of Luke pushing the police away, her message is to find the Power Man, along with arming the police with weapons that can stop such a threat. With the community rallying around her, she has become the top of the food chain once again and is thorough enjoying getting her message across, but her former political rival Damon Boone knows exactly what she is working on and even though she will not admit it, killing her cousin may have been the best political move she has made in years. Well, Harlem’s Paradise may never be the same again after Luke Cage has been spotted and everyone starts opening fire on the hero, but that might not be the biggest issue it faces. With Mariah having the power to take down the police for the unwarranted assault on a boy when questioning him about Cage’s whereabouts, she is at the top of her game once again and ready to make a deal with anyone that has the money to purchase Diamondback’s guns. Luke has been able to figure out his past and now knows that he has been kept in the dark about who his family really is and that Diamondback is not only his brother, but the one that framed Luke to go to prison in the first place. Also, I still want to know what he did! Claire has been called out for how great she really is and might be thinking about turning back the clock a little bit to work with Dr. Burstein, but I don’t see that happening unless Luke gets close to death again. Willis ‘Diamondback’ Stryker is ready for a war against Luke Cage, but does not seem quite ready to face off against the super hero he turned into public enemy number one at Harlem’s Paradise, but rest assured he will not allow another opportunity like that to pass him by again. Thank goodness that this is not a weekly show, since I was ready for something else to happen when the screen faded to black, I would be cursing a network for not letting me know what happened next and probably throw something to break my TV. Only three episodes left and I hope we get some more answers and at least see the Diamondback issue in Harlem taken care of before the season ends, but you never know. Written by Scott EdwardsTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...![]() After attacking Claire Temple in the interrogation room, Misty Knight has some problems of her own that she needs to work out. Being forced to talk to Dr. Krasner, Misty would rather be out on the streets than wasting her time talking to a shrink. Having to open up about her past, Misty is forced to re-live some of the events that made her who she is today and while it could be a good thing, it also opens up old wounds that she would rather not visit again. But the biggest thing that has led to her turn to violence is losing her gun to Diamondback and being forced to watch him smile while toying with her life. Needing to find out who the new enforcer in Harlem is, Misty is forced to prove that she is ready and fit to get back on the streets, not only to do her job, but to bring Luke Cage in once and for all. While getting Harlem’s Paradise back up and running, Shades is surprised to see that he has a new quest as his former boss Diamondback is in the house. Finding out that Diamondback and Cornell were friends, Shades is now forced to play second fiddle once again to the more powerful gangster, but with the framing process still working against Luke Cage, now is the time to figure out how to put the Power Man down once and for all. Knowing that he cannot go at it alone, Shades hypes up Mariah to get as much information out about Cage as she can, but she will also have to find a way to run her cousin’s business before things start to fall apart. Waking up in the back of a trash truck, Luke knows that he is on the run and will do anything to keep himself from winding back up in police custody. With Claire trying to work on a cure for him, the two are faced with only one option to get the bullet fragments out of his body, by turning to Dr. Burstein from Seagate. Before passing out on the drive to the doctor’s home, Luke starts to mumble about what Diamondback said before firing one more shot at Luke and believes that his old friend is lying about being his brother, but he has more pressing issues to deal with before facing off against the only man that can hurt him. Passing along the data that Reva downloaded from Seagate’s computers, Dr. Burstein believes he has found a way to weaken Luke’s bullet proof body to get at the shrapnel that is killing him, but it may be more costly than anyone thinks. This episode however is really all about Mariah and what she needs to do next with her cousin’s business after killing him in a fit of rage. With direction from Shades, Mariah is able to get a gathering of all of the heavy hitters in the city together to discuss a buyout to keep her free from the gangster life. But little does she know that Diamondback has plans for the meeting as well and even though he was not invited, he makes sure that everyone knows that he is in attendance. Killing all of his competition, Diamondback turns his eyes to his friend’s cousin and notices that she is all kinds of crazy. With ideas coming out of her mouth, Mariah knows ways to make his business more profitable, but she will need to be the face of the business to make it work and she is going to have to get her hands dirty once again instead of walking away. Just like every Marvel show on Netflix, every episode manages to top the last one and there is no change in that with Luke Cage. Seeing the shame that Mariah feels about what she did to Cornell and what she wants to do to make it right, she is forced deeper into a life of crime than she ever thought she would be. Shades is shut down on his aspirations of taking over Cornell’s business by his stronger ex employer and may be looking for a way to get out from under Diamondback’s grasp. Misty is facing her own demons as she is being looked at in a different light after letting her emotions show for once and now she has to answer to Inspector Ridley to keep her job. While I still think there is something crooked about Ridley, I will have to wait and see what the storyline brings to the table on that. Claire is able to locate someone that can help Luke out, hopefully, but she may have made the wrong decision as the doctor does not really have any answers as what to do next. And Diamondback is on a murdering spree, and it is not just Luke Cage he is looking for and if anyone is not on his side, he will murderize the hell out of them. Also, I miss Cottonmouth. With the club back open, we get another fabulous number by a classic group, The Delfonics this time and they just kill it like they have been doing this since the sixties. Well, only a few episodes left and now we have to wait to see if Luke Cage can make it through the surgery and what Diamondback has planned for Mariah since she is the new face of Cornell’s business. Written by Scott EdwardsTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...![]() After being shot by something that actually made an impact, Luke and Claire are forced to flee into the night in Harlem, but the chase is just starting. Having their ambulance hit, Claire is able to find a safe place for her and Luke to hold up while she tries to find out what actually caused damage to the Power Man. Telling Luke that she heard a drilling sound when he was hit, she knows that the bullet that has entered her friend is like nothing she has ever seen before and she will have to find a way to get it out of his chest before time runs out. But little does she know that the police have started their hunt for Luke and a friend from his past is looking for a little bit of payback. With Cornell lying dead next to the stage at the nightclub, Mariah is listening to Shades about how the plan will have to go down. Needing to get rid of everything she was wearing when beating her cousin to death, Shades has a plan of how to pin the murder on Luke Cage. Calling in the police, Mariah gives her statement about what she saw when entering the club and has provided them with a witness in Candace who puts Luke Cage at the scene of the crime. Knowing that the police will be working harder than ever to get Luke into custody, Mariah falls back on her public speaking skills and makes a statement to the press about what has happened, not only trying to bring her cousin’s 'killer' in, but to keep her seat on the council so she can continue to make Mama Mabel proud. Getting the call at the station, Misty heads down to Harlem’s Paradise to see Cornell Stokes lying dead by the stage. Seeing that he was beaten after he fell out of his office and that the wounds show that it was a crime of passion, Misty listens to everyone blaming Luke Cage, but does not believe it. Taking Candace and Mariah down to the station to get statements, nothing seems to be adding up and Misty knows that she is being lied to, but there is nothing that she can do about it. Needing to find Cage and get him down to the station before things get even more out of whack, Misty is forced to use her skills once again to find her one night stand and try to reason with him for a minute. With bullet proof skin, Luke never thought that anything could hurt him and Claire had the same thought, but they were both wrong. Needing the get the bullet out of his chest, Claire is trying to find any way to get to it, but Luke is not only built like a tank on the outside, he is on the inside as well. As Claire continues to work on helping Luke, Misty is able to find the two, and so is a face from Luke’s past that has been able to harm the Power Man. Being able to subdue the women, Diamondback wants to kill Cage for what he did in the past and takes all of the blame for what Luke went through in prison, along with him becoming a super human. Trying to reason with his old friend, Luke finds out that there is nothing that he can do to keep the sights off of him and will have to find another way to fight Diamondback off. But time is not on his side as the bullet wound is getting worse and Luke is starting to spit up blood and lose all of his strength right when he needs it most. What an episode, and now another question about what Luke did in his past is raised, and I hope at some point in the season we finally get an answer. With Willis ‘Diamondback’ Stryker now trying to kill him, I hope to see a transition of power in Harlem, since I don’t really like Mariah being the new head of the Stokes legacy, but damn I do respect it. Shades is molding the councilwoman into the powerful woman that he remembers Mama Mabel being and although Mariah does not believe she is as bad as her predecessor, her actions are showing the opposite. The fight between Claire and Misty in this episode is what really made it for me as they are both strong women and upset about what happened to them when trying to help Luke. Misty has lost her mind after being lied to by both Candace and Mariah and now Inspector Ridley as well, she needs answers to what is going on and with the perfect frame up on Luke Cage by Shades, she needs them now more than ever. Another shocking episode and I guess Luke Cage is like an onion, the more layers you peel off, the more there is to know. Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...![]() Despite the fact that we are only four episodes into the fourth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., I think it's safe to declare that this has been the finest season of this intrepid series to date. The shift in tone has worked wonders, giving us grittier episodes that feature enthralling storylines that waste no time in advancing the plot and giving the audience everything it wants. Which means, I am filled with joy to report that last night's episode, 'Let Me Stand Next to Your Fire' was simply more of the same great stuff we've come to enjoy. Because we were treated to answers galore as to what the show has been slowly setting up over these past few weeks, and more importantly...it seems that the band is finally getting back together and are unified against a common foe for the first time in a long time and that's just outright fantastic. So with that in mind, who then is the nasty foe S.H.I.E.LD. will be facing off against? Well we will get back to that in a moment, because let's start by looking at another important reveal from last night...the identity of the mole that has been feeding information to the Watchdogs. This stunning storyline came together by way of Daisy, since when we catch up to her, her continued fight against the Watchdogs is finally taking its toll on her physically to the point where she needs some help, leading her to lure Simmons away from the team to get a little medical attention for a bullet she caught in a firefight...and use Jemma's intimate knowledge of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s systems to find out how the Watchdogs are getting their hands on private Inhuman information. Through a little espionage, er...rather, Jemma using her title to make things happen, they come to find that the Watchdogs have been able to gain access to the devices that each Inhuman is required to wear to track their movements and pinpoint their location, and it leads them to their next target, James, who we all know as 'Hellfire' from last season. James it seems has adjusted to civilian life, spending his days working in a fireworks store and despite the fact that it seems that James is comfortable with a normal life...he is hiding quite the secret. It turns out that he is the man who has been feeding information to the Watchdogs because he cannot stand his own kind. He thinks Inhumans are a scourge upon mankind, and wants them all eliminated, including himself, putting the ladies in extreme danger. But while Jemma and Daisy uncover this ugly truth, Coulson and Mack spent their time chasing down leads on the Momentum Labs case, only to come face to face with the Ghost Rider. Their chance encounter gives Coulson quite the wild notion to trust Reyes and appeal to his better nature and well...it works. Robbie agrees to help out and the group learns everything they can about everything that happened at the lab before an alert pulls them away from their primary mission, allowing them to go and save Jemma and Daisy. This led to the coolest moment of the night where the show fought fire with fire, giving Robbie his iconic flaming chain and at last...getting the team under one umbrella for the first time since last season...which is an extremely good thing. Because last night we learned that Momentum Labs was working on quantum particle experiments and that somehow, the Darkhold helped in those experiments and considering that Daniel Whitehall, the Red Skull and Nick Fury have searched for this book unsuccessfully it's clear that its power has been sought after by some of the classiest and nastiest individuals on the planet to either contain or control its power and now...Lucy, the ghost we met in the season premiere, no doubt is aware of the book's location. Meaning our team is reunited to find the Darkhold, and put a stop to whatever she has planned for it; and just like that...season four has its story arc and I'm loving it. This season really can do no wrong at this point, and I'm beyond excited that the team is finally coming back together and I can't wait to find out exactly what Lucy has planned for the Darkhold and how that will raise the stakes for this already incredible storyline. Until next time. Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...![]() Over the past few seasons, The Flash has managed to accomplish wonders as a television show. Every single one of its characters are endearing and relatable, the episodes are often enthralling and filled to the brim with a quality mix of action and story and those simple elements are what makes this show a joy to watch week in and week out. But despite its many accomplishments, the series does have a tendency to shy away from storylines that play into philosophical concepts or tales that tend to challenge us on a fundamental level. Now, while that may seem like a slight against this wonderful show, it's not. After all not every superhero story has to teach us something about ourselves or our world, but the best stories from this particular genre are the ones that leave us thinking long after we're finished reading or watching it and last night's episode, 'Magenta' was an opportunity for the show to step into that more philosophical realm since this story took the focus off of Barry to a certain degree, and dug deep on a pair of fascinating concepts; specifically...what it means to be a hero, and what it means to be a villain, and this low key style of storytelling made for one of the most cerebral episodes that this show has aired to date. In addition to exploring those two elements, the plight and influence of a hero, was explored in bittersweet fashion by way of the return of Jesse and Harrison, since the dark matter explosion from last season allowed for her to become a speedster, instantly setting off a sense of jealousy in Wally's heart since he too was touched by the dark matter and alas...no speed came from it. This became a fascinating character analysis where we were able to see just how much Barry has influenced and inspired the people around him since Wally would give anything to become a speedster and a hero and stand for something more in this life, and be just like Barry. However, this story was also gracious enough to explore the dangers that come with becoming a hero, since these are the people that put themselves in harm's way on a daily basis and suffer sometimes become of it. But heroes aren't the only ones that suffer...and the show gets major kudos for what it did with this week's villain, Magenta. As another one of Alchemy's creations, this young woman could tap into the anger buried within her soul and move objects with her mind and she was quick to use that power to punish those that had done her wrong, but what made her story so amazing in this episode, was the fact that she was completely and utterly conflicted about what she was doing. There was a genuine terror over the evil buried within her and thankfully Barry was able to bring out the best in her but it's so rare to show a villain who isn't fully committed to their particular cause and actually wants to fight back the darkness that is growing inside them. The deeper writing found in this episode was designed to explore one important lesson, that what it means or takes to be a hero or a villain involves sacrifice...and choice. These are people who choose to be what they are. Barry surrenders a normal life to be something more and be an icon and he lends himself to the greater good willingly, and oddly enough a villain must do the same...in twisted fashion. They must relinquish their life, and their humanity and dedicate themselves to their cause and goals alone, regardless of who will be hurt and truly what made this episode so magical in my eyes, is the fact that Barry was able to inspire a young villain in Magenta, and get to her to step away from a life of evil. It's a rare, low key victory that speaks volumes about this show's humanity and when all is said and done, I could care less that this episode didn't do much to advance the plot, this was simply a beautiful stand alone episode that explored so much and I hope The Flash comes back to more thoughtful stories like this in the future. Until next time. Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...![]() Over the course of one year, and a couple of episodes, Supergirl has established itself as one of the finest superheroine shows out there. It's hopeful, uplifting and outright inspirational as it provides us with unique and challenging storylines week in and week out. But despite the incredible strides that the show has made over the past year, there is one glaring issue that honestly I had not noticed until last night's episode, the sheer fact that this series is lacking the one thing every good story in this genre happens to have...a true threat for our heroine to face. Sure, we had the Kryptonians last year and their plan to create a zombie like utopia with Project Myriad, but...there was always a prevailing sense that Kara would overcome them and that part of the secret to her success would be Astra's loyalty to her family. But beyond that, there has never been a true villain on this show, or a big bad that Kara has had to square off against and while that's not necessarily a bad thing...every heroine needs her nemesis and it seems at long last, Supergirl has found hers. Because this week's episode 'The Last Children of Krypton' gave the mysterious Cadmus a face, and a nefarious purpose...in what turned out to be the most action packed and comic book-esque episode of the show to date. As it turns out, Cadmus is nothing like it's counterpart in print. Whereas in the comics Project Cadmus is all about in depth genetic research that manages to churn out a couple of heroes, this Cadmus is all about the protection of mankind, firmly believing that an invincible pair of aliens on earth is going to lead to disaster, even going so far as to claim that someday Superman and Supergirl will eventually make the decision to abandon their goals of keeping humanity safe...in order to rule it. Which means they must lead the way in protecting mankind, and unleash Metallo, a pair of abominations that are fueled by Kryptonite to make like hell for the Man of Steel and the Girl of Tomorrow and this led to some outright incredible fight scenes as Kara and Kal did their best to subdue these evil beings and foil Cadmus' master plan to remove Kryptonians from the face of the planet. But while this episode was filled to the brim with thrills and super feats, Supergirl is a show that always finds a way to throw a little heart and humanity into the mix and thankfully that was present in this episode as well. The theme this go round was setting aside one's differences for the greater good and while I wasn't a fan of the storyline that involved a little jealousy from Alex, it just seemed petty in my humble opinion, she was able to let that go to help Kara and quite frankly, it was overshadowed by the fact that J'onn and Kal-El finally found a common ground and quit with their bickering to fight together and find a way to trust one another in the process since J'onn finally handed over the remaining Kryptonite in the DEO's possession to Superman so that the Man of Steel could find a safe place for it where it could do no harm to either him or his cousin. However, despite all the victories achieved in this story, there was one bittersweet moment that well, changes the landscape of the show...the fact that Cat Grant is taking a leave of absence from CatCo. Clearly her speech to Kara last week inspired something within herself as she steps away from the business to find herself and take on new challenges and while that stays in line with the overreaching theme of independence and empowerment on this show...let's be honest, we are all going to miss seeing Cat on a weekly basis, because this is a character that helped Kara grow and in the process...won all of us over. But in the meantime, there's bigger fish to fry. Cadmus is clearly a force to be reckoned with and they will no doubt waste little time in regrouping and making another attempt to rid the world of Supergirl... With one bot killing everyone that killed him in past programming and letting the others go, she has stumbled upon something that might be a big problem if the program update is not uninstalled. Before she is able to move on with her theory, a stray unit has made its way into the hills and she needs to go and retrieve it with Stubbs from park security. Showing up at the bot’s campsite, Elsie stumbles upon a strange carving that the bot has been putting on all of his work. Finding out it is a constellation, she needs to pinpoint where the programming glitch is and put a stop to it before it infects more of the hosts around the park. Finding the bot trapped in the rocks, she is ready to go to work, but little does she know that the bot is experiencing feelings of his own. Teddy has been able to get his next bounty, but it is not enough for him as he still has eyes for Dolores and Dr. Ford wants to give him a little more reason to try and keep Dolores from trying to leave the park. Giving Teddy a new backstory, the storyline in the park is starting to change a little bit and instead of trying to get Dolores home to a house full of death, he tries to show her how to defend herself. But there is a problem with the programming on Dolores since she is not able to pull the trigger, even in target practice and his attention is quickly turned to the hills. With word that his old friend from the war days is killing everyone that crosses him, Teddy is forced to take revenge, but the old army officer has a group on his side that cannot be matched by one man and soon Teddy will have come to terms that his programming will always have him slated to die. ![]() William is enjoying the quiet part of the park and does not know what he wants to do next, but that decision is made for him when he is forced to pull his pistol and gun down an outlaw that is threatening Clementine. Killing his first host, William wants to go on a bounty hunt, but Logan wants nothing to do with it since drinking and humping are his only motivations on this trip so far. With the two taking to the hills and finding a good place to hold up for the night, they are met by a visitor that neither one of them expected to see when Dolores shows up and passes out from the night's activities. The episode really only revolved around Bernard and a little back story of his own, including the fact that his son that passed away many moons ago. When talking to Dolores, she brings it up and he is able to shut down the conversation before it becomes too painful, but when Dr. Ford brings it up, the scares are apparent. Bernard has found solace in talking to the bots during their down time and Ford is forced to reiterate that they are not real people, no matter how much they seem like it. But no matter how many times Bernard is told this, it will not keep him from the one on one sessions with the bots, especially Dolores who seems to be evolving into something that he nor anybody else in the park has ever seen before. What an episode, pulling more on the feelings of the characters than ever before. I like that we got to see who and what Teddy is supposed to be in the story and why he will never run away with Dolores despite the creator giving him a touch more backstory. Bernard’s digging has brought him some new facts from Ford about how the hosts were created and with an empty top of a progression triangle, it seems like there is one unanswered question that will be found out the hard way. Doctor Ford seems to be getting fed up with all of the questions that are coming his way and wants to make sure that everyone knows that the hosts are robots and not real people and they are run by programming and nothing else. Elsie has found something strange when picking up the stray and it may only be the start of a bigger problem that the park will have to face head on, hopefully sooner than later as the glitch seems to be getting worse in the infected bots. I am not sure what the relevance of Bernard’s son will have on the storyline coming up, but since they have made it really big deal in this episode, I am sure that there is something else about him that we have not seen yet and it was probably him trying to build a ‘son bot’ without authorization, but you never know, and I cannot wait to see what next week has to bring. Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...![]() Something magical happened after last week's episode of Blunt Talk, specifically that I found the cliffhanger was constantly on my mind. Was Cornelia okay? Would Jim and Celia's love find a way to endure and I call that magical because often times, cliffhangers are something we can easily put out of our mind knowing full well that hey, this is a television show, nothing more, nothing less. But there are some shows that latch on you to on a fundamental level, ones that allow you to care about the characters through and through, and it's clear now that Blunt Talk is that kind of show. It means that we are going to be in for one heck of a ride this season, experiencing the highs and the lows that await our characters as we all travel on this crazy journey that is their lives and last night's episode was a prime example of that. Because not only did we enjoy a quick resolution on the burning questions that last week left hanging for us, this episode served as bittersweet juxtaposition as well; since while last week showed us the wonder of love and the incredible ways that it can inspire our soul and drive us further in life, this episode showed us the horrors, and the importance of heartbreak...all while reminding us that good can come out of that too. The darker side of heartbreak came by way of Jim and Celia's story, since despite the fact that they had become media darlings and the proposal went viral, the couple, now dubbed Jimelia were looking at some tough times. Celia struggled with said proposal and with the subsequent attention and decided it was high time that she and Jim took a short break in their relationship so she could sort out her thoughts. The move made sense to her, but Jim...took the move poorly. He saw it as the preamble to the end of their relationship and it didn't take long for the fear of being alone, away from a woman he truly loves to break him down in incredible fashion. He resorted to hoarding once again, viewed himself as disgusting and really his only saving grace came by way of the other man whose heart was broken in this episode...Walter. If anything, Walter's story is what made this episode so bittersweet since his care and dedication to Cornelia led to soaring emotions...and devastation. On the plus side, his love was alive and well, albeit bumped and bruised since the person who met her at the depot felt the need to rough her up enough to have her admitted to the hospital, and that's when sorrow came Walter's way. When he went to visit his darling Cornelia, he came to discover there was another man in her life, and the revelation that he was facing solidarity again left Walter morose, but his spirit stayed strong. After all, he has unfortunately been here before and he is truly in a much better place now, and considering that everyone looks up to him, his strength allowed him to serve as a romantic mentor toward Jim to help him through his tough time and through supporting Jim, and getting some solid advice from Rosalie...Walter was able to do something magnificent. He turned his pain around into something truly positive, by offering to help Cornelia with her drought story, since she was planning to leave the country over what happened and for once feel like a journalist and enjoy the fulfilling feeling of loving someone unconditionally, by, as Rosalie put it and I paraphrase, doing something special for someone...and expecting nothing in return. Of course, the danger is now quite real for Walter. Our creepy stalker friend is still out there, no doubt waiting and watching to see what happens next since he knows who Walter is and that he's been visiting Cornelia and while the ending was ominous, I get the feeling Walter will be just fine...at least for now. Either way, this was another heartfelt and magical episode, where the pangs of sorrow came as often as the pain in my sides from laughing and even without a cliffhanger to be found in this episode...it's still heavily on my mind today, since I'm dying to know what comes next... |
