It is definitely safe to say, that it has been a long time since nerds and geeks everywhere have been able to talk in depth about the wondrous series that is Doctor Who. Because we haven’t had a fresh adventure with the Doctor since ‘Revolution of the Daleks’ and there's been little news about the new series and let’s be honest… it makes sense as to why we’ve been deprived of more Team TARDIS adventures and tidbits. For this saga had to deal with the same pandemic related challenges as everyone else and that’s not a bad thing by any means, since slowing down production kept the cast and crew of this series as safe as can be.
But at last, we are finally seeing some progress in the fight against Covid, and the vaccine and new safety measures are allowing for shows to return to production and that includes Doctor Who, which is back to filming regular episodes. In fact, they’re so far into production of a new year of storytelling… that everyone involved with the series was able to speak to the upcoming new series at Comic-Con@Home and offer up all kinds of delightful tidbits as to what we can expect from the Doctor’s latest adventures. Such as the fact that the show is returning later this year, with a slight format change storytelling wise. For the series is opting to go old school and bring back the serialized storytelling that permeated the adventures of the first Seven Doctors and it was also announced today that a new character named Vinder, played by Jacob Anderson, will join Dan and Yaz and the Doctor in their shenanigans. But what matters most, is that we finally got a trailer for series 13 and well, without further ado, courtesy of BBC and BBC America, here is that trailer and some new images from the new series for everyone to peruse as we prepare to climb aboard the TARDIS for another adventure through time and space.

Written by John Edward Betancourt Caution: This article contains spoilers for the series premiere of ‘Eden: Untamed Planet’. There was a time in mankind’s history, where we only populated a handful of areas on the planet. Which of course, allowed for nature to thrive. For we had our tiny world to tend to and the rest of it, went about its day, free from our interference. But as time marched on and mankind came together and figured out how to congregate and grow… nature’s footprint began to shrink. For we needed more space for our grand cities and even the parts that we left untouched, we decided needed our grace as well. Which is why you can find mankind moving about through the forests of the world on any given day, for we truly believe we are the masters of this domain and being present in every corner of it, is our outright destiny. But thankfully that mantra is now under debate and of concern. For our footprint on the planet has brought about changes to the climate and it’s reduced some natural habitats for animals and realizing that, has forced a great to people to wonder if there is by chance, any part of our world that remains untouched if you will. Where mankind hasn’t made its presence part of the environment and that we can use as educational foundations for preservation and well, believe it or not… there are. For there are tiny pockets of paradise around the globe where nature is allowed to function on its own, and it just so happens that BBC America is eager to spotlight those very locations. For the new series, Eden: Untamed Planet, takes the time to showcase those untouched paradises and well… they truly are the sight to behold. Because in these rich and beautiful places, nature has figured out how to function in a magnificent manner, sometimes beating the odds as evidenced in the series premiere of this saga. For ‘Borneo: Sacred Forest’ showcases a genuine paradise that quite frankly, should not exist. Because the soil in this place isn’t nutrient rich in the slightest. But despite that, the tropical temperatures and climate and ingenuity of the animals that live here… have allowed for a true paradise to sprout up, one where every animal that lives here utilizes the environment to a tee and for proof… then look no further than our ancestors. For the apes that populate this lush forest, not only know which trees will give them wondrous nourishment. But they are also able to map out the best eating spots possible when they're in need of richer foods, and they’ll do whatever they must to get the nutrients they crave and they’re not the only ones that go this route. For there are hornbill birds in this beautiful place, that will turn to creative measures in order to get a meal when their favorite fruits aren’t in fine supply. Such as say, hanging out with other birds of prey at sunset, near the caves where the bats take flight. Because bats make solid prey and a decent meal and with a little ingenuity and patience, they can get their fill no problem. But while it was wonderful to see nature’s creativity and drive in action, we are attracted to these kinds of tales to take in the breathtaking views and learn more about the wonder of our visual destination and thankfully… that was present here as well. Since we were treated consistently to incredible views of the lush forest as it caught the light of the sun and most important of all, we received a wonderful snapshot of the incredibly diverse animals that call this majestic place home. If anything, this was a wonderful and refreshing documentary. One that did a fine job of showing us a part of the world that is genuinely untouched by mankind and that made for a fulfilling hour of television. One that offered up a sense of peace and calm and outright appreciation for the beauty of the world and hopefully… seeing how well nature functions on its own, will help to motivate others to speak up in regard to how we treat it. For even Borneo’s oasis-like appearance is being threatened by our presence since our needs threaten the needs of the animals in the forest, and that is why this documentary deserves our praise and awe and attention. Since it is helping us to understand that this kind of paradise can remain, provided we make the effort to keep it safe and use our vast resources and intelligence to create harmony and having that subtle message present here, really does compel one to continue a wild journey that is genuinely helping us to understand... that we are apart of something quite special, and that it is up to us to keep it safe. Until next time. Written by John Edward Betancourt Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode 207 of ‘Central Park’. One particularly harsh lesson that we all come to learn in life as we grow older… is that nothing goes quite the way we plan. Which is something that irritates all of us, simply because there are certain moments in our lives that we outright wish were perfect but will never be that way. For once the moment passes, whatever will be, will be and we do our best to move beyond the outcome and live our best life. But sometimes, the draw of that moment and its importance is too great to let go. To the point where we will do our best to obtain it come hell or high water and that particular quest served as one of focal points of the next episode of Central Park on AppleTV+. For ‘A Decent Proposal’ informed us of the fact, that Owen Tillerman is a man that is haunted by a perfect moment that never quite came to fruition. Because he really wanted his proposal to Paige to be perfect all those years ago, but a warm surprise from a dog and a sewer grate and a cold night all helped the night to feel akin to a disaster to Owen and that motivated him… to try and make perfect proposals happen in the park whenever the opportunity arose. All to gain that sense of satisfaction and wonder he was never able to grasp, and thanks to his pristine nature, that opportunity came forth again. Because Owen swiped a bottle with an engagement ring in it and in order to make the proposal right… he stepped in and offered to help make a flawless one come to fruition. Which in turn almost led to disaster since he was pushing this poor and nervous young man to do things his way over anything else. But thankfully, Paige was able to convince him to stand down and let them handle their love in their own way, since sometimes perfection is achieved by just knowing what your partner wants and that allowed for a pair of happy endings to come into play. Because the guy and gal they helped out were engaged to be married and Paige, well she decided that the time was right to give Owen exactly what he needed. Which in turn motivated her to get the kids involved to help her stage the perfect proposal, one that was right out of a movie and well… it was indeed exactly what Owen needed and at long last, he could finally let that sour memory go and embrace the wonder of his dream. If anything, that was just a beautiful twist to inject into this story, since it adds a genuine sense of realism to this animated adventure. Because true love really does entail those little moments where we do incredibly special things for the ones we love, and do go so far as to stage events that give them exactly what their soul craves. And it was just wonderful to see that kind of reality on display in this show and it just serves to remind us that this series is perhaps, the most human animated adventure out there and what’s wild… is that this episode wasn’t quite done with providing us with human moments that we can relate to on a fundamental level, a feat that this story accomplished by way of Molly’s journey in this particular tale. Because while all of this was going down in the park, she was off on a grandiose date with Brendan, one that took place at the Brandenham, and that made her incredibly nervous. In part because she was surrounded by the ultra-rich, but also because… she didn’t want to deal with the wrath of Bitsy because of her family’s dealings with her. But one way or another, she came face to face with Bitsy and that allowed for an important lesson to take place. One that helped Molly to understand that regardless of how much cash you have or how much anger and power you yield, at the end of the day… you’re still a person and you still can be reached if you’re treated like one, and that allowed for a wonderful interaction to take place between Bitsy and Molly. One that hopefully builds a bridge between the Bradenham’s and the Tillerman’s and really in the end, all of these elements make this a downright heartwarming tale. Because it was just filled to the brim with beautiful moments and good vibes. And there is really something quite fulfilling about sitting through a half hour animated comedy that makes a point to show us that we are all equal and that what makes life worth living are the little moments of beauty that our loved ones create for us and well… all of that really does make you feel good about your day. Plus, this story is motivational in nature as well. Because you’re overflowing with so much positivity after this one, that you feel compelled to go and have a level conversation with someone to give them that validation they crave and you’re suddenly eager to go do something special for someone that means the world to you and well, it just goes to show that this series is doing a wonderful job of helping us to appreciate our world and our lives and that’s exactly what we need right now and everything here totally leaves us eager for next week’s entry. So, we can once again bask in the positivity of this delightful and uplifting show. Until next time.
Please enjoy the character art and a brand-new sneak peek that was released today for the new wrestling drama ‘Heels’. Which debuts on STARZ on August 15, 2021, at 9 p.m. EST/PST.
Written by John Edward BetancourtCaution: This article contains spoilers for the season two premiere of ‘Ted Lasso’. There are quite a few stereotypes that surround professional sports. For instance, a great deal of people hold the notion that most athletes are dumb as rocks, and that their physical and emotional skill set is tied only to the game that they love. That assumption is woefully incorrect; for athletes are, in fact, intelligent human beings that are incredibly well-trained on making split second decisions, decisions that can change the course of a match in a matter of seconds. They're also equipped with a full range of emotions; they hurt and struggle with doubts and insecurities and fears just like the rest of us. That range of emotion is what's important to spotlight today, largely because shattering sports related stereotypes served as the focal point of the season two premiere of Ted Lasso on Apple TV. ‘Goodbye, Earl’ accomplished this by way of Dani Rojas' journey. For dear Dani found himself involved in quite the unfortunate mishap during a game, wherein he accidentally put down the AFC Richmond mascot, Earl, with his patented and powerful penalty kick, and well, Dani just wasn't the same after that. Dani's gentle soul struggled with causing harm to a gentle animal, which, in turn, immediately hurt his game. Dani was so impacted by this stunning turn of events that not even the inexorable and lovable Ted Lasso could get through to him with his words of wisdom and optimism, which motivated the team to bring in a sports psychologist named Sharon. Sharon took the time to sit down with Dani and several members of the team to help Dani process his pain and worries. Sharon's skilled guidance helped bring Dani out of his funk and remind him that, "football is life," after all. Therapy was quite the stunning and amazing angle to inject into this particular tale. The thought of macho sports players indulging in therapy isn't something we think about all that often, but it beautifully reinforces the fact that players are as human as they come, have their ups and downs, and need a helping hand just like the rest of us. The Ted Lasso series deserves a round of applause for pointing this out because it really does help to remove the stigma that sports players are unfeeling and mindless. What was equally as amazing about this particular plot twist is that it's clearly going to go deeper on machismo related stereotypes in the weeks to come. Ted actually struggled a bit with Sharon coming into his clubhouse and helping his players. It was obvious, through Jason Sudeikis' sublime and nuanced performance, that Ted is used to being the fixer; the guy that everyone comes to when they're in need so he can offer up some beautiful advice and relish in the satisfaction of helping others. Potentially being robbed of the "fixer" role put Ted on edge in a manner that we've never seen before. What makes this aspect of the story so significant and earth-shattering trope-wise is the fact that this sets up an important journey for Ted. A journey that will most likely teach him that it doesn't fall upon one man's shoulders to save the day, and that it's healthy to encourage people to get help from multiple sources. It will be quite interesting to see if Ted is capable of learning that lesson. Yet, while it was fascinating to watch this series deconstruct some long-standing professional sports stereotypes, we would be remiss to not discuss Roy Kent's journey in this episode. Roy's story offered some fascinating insight on a subject that we don't discuss much in professional sports: What comes next for the athletes that finally walk away from what they love? We think only of their legacy on the field (or pitch), but we should take a little time to worry or ponder about them once they leave their sport. Why? Because walking away from decades of chasing one thing and being buried in routine can't be an easy transition. This was evidenced by the fact that Roy spent a great deal of this tale searching hard to determine what he wants out of life now that football is behind him. This was a beautifully poignant and important segment, one that sets up an interesting journey for Roy in the weeks to come. If anything, this was a perfect season premiere when all is said and done. It did a wonderful job of seamlessly immersing us back into Ted's optimistic world, all while upping the storytelling ante by informing us that different challenges await the good people of AFC Richmond in this year's journey. These challenges will be intimate and powerful in nature, but the journey through them will also be relatable—and that sense of connection is what we love the most about this series, alongside the laughs, of which there were plenty of in this particular premiere. But what matters most, is that Ted Lasso is back on the air, and its endless optimism and appreciation of humanity is still the right fit at the right time. It's going to be a true delight to escape into the best parts of the human condition every Friday when we tune in to see the world through Ted's colorful eyes. Until next time! Written by John Edward Betancourt Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode Three of ‘Leverage: Redemption’. It is always a wonderful thing, when a beloved and established television series opts to do something dynamic and different and deep. Simply because that means that the people involved with said series, understand the story’s long-term potential and know that with a little care, great insight can be offered to the audience on a particular topic, and they can walk away from a particular episode with plenty to chew upon and it just so happens that Leverage: Redemption is beginning to evolve into a show that does just that. Because the next episode in this dynamic and satisfying series takes its revenge themed storytelling to a whole new level by exploring a particular aspect of the rich and powerful and morally corrupt that we honestly don’t think about all often. Specifically, what the heck motivates these individuals to break the rules and impose their wealth and influence upon others, and ‘The Rollin’ on the River Job’ accomplished this examination by introducing us to quite the slimy individual, a former senator turned riverboat casino operator named Austin Chaudry. And what made Austin so incredibly gross, is the sheer fact that he was stealthily buying up land near his casino in the hopes of creating his own little Vegas-style trip in the bayou. Which is pretty standard stuff for the team to encounter, but their investigation into his dealings and their plans to bring him down is what took the time to expose his motivations and outright lust for power and as it turns out, guys like Chaudry aren’t just driven to the top by way of bags of cash and a chance to be in charge. Granted it helps, but what really pushes dudes like him… are their tiny and bruised egos. The kind that cannot stand being marginalized in the slightest. Because the big reason that Austin was a former senator, was because he was a disgraced one as well, and being embarrassed in that manner and rejected from the seat of American power chewed at his soul and left him unable to cope with everyday life. And that in turn is what gave life to his casino related machinations, so he could be viewed as a brilliant entrepreneur, one that reinvented himself and grabbed hold of the American Dream and also just so happened to make the little guy pay for exposing his darker side and well, spending time with him was simply fascinating for certain. Since it really did show us how a bruised ego can genuinely twist an already morally questionable person into the monsters, we see on the six o’clock news. But while it was wonderful to see this series buckle down and explore the origins of a rich scumbag and how fragile their egos truly are, we are in fact… here to enjoy the con and the Leverage team’s defense of the everyday folks that these guys harm and that… was just as satisfying as the lesson. For the team did a wonderful job of pulling out all the stops to lull Chaudry into a false sense of security, and they made sure to make him feel like the big special boy he believed he was and in doing so… they brought him crashing back down to earth in the most painful manner possible. Because not only were they able to rob his vault of every last dollar, effectively revoking his gambling license and leaving him destitute, but they also exposed his ties to the criminal underworld and probably put him on the run since they also stole the money he was laundering money for the Russian mob and uh… oh well. Because this guy really was just the worst villain to date in this new season of storytelling, and the only benefit to having him pop up, was that the quest to bring him down, helped the new members of the team grow into their roles. Since this gave Harry a chance to show the team how thorough he is at spotting disingenuous people’s lies, and Breanna finally had the opportunity to integrate herself into the team and it was wonderful to see everyone jelling as one. Mainly because, the villains just seem to be getting worse as this season rolls on and if that is going to be the case, they’re going to need one another and their respective strengths in order to defeat these sneaky rich jerks and well, while we wait to see what kinds of rotten human beings await them next, we can bask in one satisfying and cerebral tale. Because this one really did do a phenomenal job of adding a new layer to the show’s storytelling by way of its detailed analysis of what gives rise to a rich degenerate, all while giving the audience what it wants. Since it also featured wonderful humor and amazing action sequences, especially when Eliot and Parker made their push to empty the vault and well, it is definitely safe to say we’re more eager than ever to continue or restart the journey. Because clearly, the cases are getting bigger, the villains are getting worse and we simply need to see this dynamic reboot/sequel… reach its potential and blow us away. Until next time. Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode Two of ‘The North Water’.
One question that storytellers love to explore in literature and television and film, is what drives mankind to commit to darkness? Which is a question that captivates us, simply because we would like to believe that evil is not in our nature. That we are instead, pure beings of love that strive to be more and are eager to spread good about our world. But instead, we find ourselves indulging in anger or hearing of how others commit dark acts with impunity. Which is why we turn to these types of stories, so that we can hopefully understand what drives us to evil in order to eradicate it and really… this is of note for our discussion today, because that exploration takes the center stage of the next episode of The North Water. For ‘We Men Are Wretched Things’ saw Patrick Sumner survive his horrific encounter with the cold and having a near brush with an icy death, definitely gave him pause and perspective, the kind that left him pondering upon what kind of man he was going to become after this. For in the moment, he was rejuvenated and revitalized and truly believed that his second chance here was designed to push him to do better in this world and it wasn’t long before someone on this vessel gave him that chance. Because the cabin boy showed up in the medical bay with some concerning injuries. The kind that made it clear that someone violated the sanctity of his body against his will, out of some sense of cruel satisfaction and that motivated him to get the captain involved in an investigation and that decision… brought about all kinds of trouble. Because eventually the cabin boy turned up dead and an innocent man stood accused of his murder and well, it was shockingly odd that Henry Drax was happy and overtly eager to offer up an eyewitness account of how the poor boy died at someone else's hands, when he likely was the one that raped and killed him and well… Henry’s actions make it clear that sometimes what drives us to evil and dark acts… is the power that they provide us with. Because Drax was in complete control here, and basically put the fate of a man’s life in his hands without giving it a second thought. And he enjoyed every single second of it and had no qualms with the possibility that an innocent man might hang for a crime he didn’t commit. All because he was in charge, he had the power and that also relates to the fact, that Henry Drax is a nobody. After all, in London he was just a horny drunk that couldn’t get six pence to buy a snifter of rum. But aboard this boat, he’s somebody and he’s revered, and he can be powerful and strong here and that lends credence to the reality that marginalization can also bring about the evil that men do since it gives them a sense of satisfaction and existence they never had before. But above all else, one of the greatest reasons that people indulge in evil… is because they come to like it. Because men like Drax really do relish in the thrill of bucking a system that tossed them to the curb and the pleasure they receive from being half present in life and half in the shadows, gives them joy to no end since they can continually fuel their fire and angst for the world and indulge their darkest fantasies and well, that epiphany is quite frightening to say the least. Because Drax is settling in and finding his twisted groove and indulging if he’s killed once to enjoy power… he will again and that puts everyone at risk. If anything, this was simply a bleak and devastating story when all is said and done. Because there is an outright murderer operating aboard this ship without any restrictions or suspicions and that really does leave one hopeless since there is a good chance that a great deal of people could die at Drax’s hands. For there is the risk that eventually his secret will get out and a man like that, won’t go down without a bloody and vicious fight. But while we wait to see what comes next now that suspicious eyes are upon Drax, we can bask in a story that really did dive deep into the evil that men do, and it was simply fascinating to see how easy it is to lose ourselves in the darkness if we don’t fight it and all this kind of character study does is leave us eager to continue this journey. All so that we see what other dark recesses of mankind’s psyche this voyage is going to explore. Until next time. As an added bonus, here is a clip of this week's episode for you to enjoy! Written by John Edward Betancourt Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode 302 of ‘Jack Irish’. When we last settled in to enjoy the fascinating, third season premiere of Jack Irish on Acorn TV, we were all left sitting on the edge of our seats. After all, Jack had just discovered that the circumstances that led to the death of his beloved Isabel, might go deeper than a mere moment of angry chance. And knowing that, changed everything for both Jack and the audience. Because this is a huge lie, one that shaped Jack’s life for years on end and coming to realize that he’s been trying to reconcile a falsehood, was undoubtedly going to motivate him to dig deeper and find the truth… no matter the cost. And thankfully the next episode in this wondrous series wasted zero time in putting Jack on the case and what he uncovered was both fascinating and shocking to say the least. The fascinating stuff, well that came about when Jack uncovered the fact that Barry and Gresh, were part of a drug unit back in the day… one that seized a boatload of money in a massive operation to clean up the streets. And this unit also included the mysterious Khoury, and that matters… because Khoury was also found dead as Jack started to dig into everything, and that concerned him greatly. Because there was no way that such a spate of deaths was related to coincidence or chance, Instead it appeared that someone was targeting these men for reasons unknown and that forced Jack to enlist his old friend Linda on the matter and use her journalist’s prowess to help him to connect the dots in a timely manner, and well… that’s when the shocking stuff outright came into play. For it turns out that all roads lead back to Wayne Milovich, the man that killed Jack’s wife on that fateful day. And his involvement in all of this, stems from that tragic turn of events where Milovich supposedly went after Gresh with angry impunity. Because the more that Jack and Linda learned about Wayne, the more they realized the picture that the police report painted was seemingly incorrect. For everyone Linda talked to, spoke to a man that was reformed and eager to start over, and his behavior on that day was indicative of a man that was reacting to a bad situation, one where he was framed and where a cover up came into play to keep the officer in the right. A cover up that definitely involved the current litany of the dead and that would be solid motivation for targeted revenge years later, provided of course… that Milovich was still alive. But therein lie the greatest surprise of all. For Jack and Linda were also able to learn that Wayne had two kids, named Troy and Casey, and Troy is the young man that’s been running around town… doing dirty work with a gun. Which means the kids are eager to make everyone that ever did Wayne dirty, pay the ultimate price and that’s stunning and scary. Since Jack might be on their list as well since he tried to reason with Wayne instead of hearing his story. But while we wait to see if Jack is safe or not, we can bask in one engrossing and majestic tale. One that really did offer up all kinds of stunning answers and surprises in regard to the death of Isabel and now it would seem that Jack is going to be in a race against time to find Troy before he kills again. In part to bring about justice, but also… to help Jack gain a complete picture of the truth since Troy undoubtedly knows more about this situation than anyone else and Jack needs to find him before before he undoubtedly skips town and well, in the end, all this incredible episode does is leave us hungry for more. Because Jack is finally so close to the truth and the peace that’s he has always craved and that is going to make the wait until next week’s entry in this saga a difficult one for certain, but it will undoubtedly be worth our while. Since the first two episodes of the new and final season have been filled to the brim with incredible moment after incredible moment and there’s no reason to doubt that the next one will be any different. In fact, it will likely up the ante since this story is continuing to build to an incredible crescendo. One that will change Jack's life for better or worse, depending on how he feels about the truth. Until next time. Written by John Edward Betancourt Caution: This article contains spoilers for the season two finale of ‘Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries’. What is truly fascinating about the nature of revenge, is that it is oddly fleeting in nature. Something that is attributed to the fact that vendettas are best served in the moment. For when time comes into play, our vengeful tendencies cool and we can think clearly and move on from whatever it was that was chewing at us. But while the vast majority of us are eager to leave such negative emotions behind once fire and fury has left our veins, there are some people who don’t feel their anger subside with time and these are the folks that make revenge a reality, since they stoke that fire when they find it is still burning and use it to fuel them toward payback and well… their stories are quite compelling and tragic in the end. Simply because, it’s fascinating to learn what motivated them to strike back and sad to see the end result and really, the dark nature of revenge is relevant to our discussion today, simply because it served as the focus of the season two finale of Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries on Acorn TV. For ‘New Year’s Evil’ saw the death of a lead singer of a band, named Pat, occur at a New Year’s party that Peregrine put together and well, at first glance this seemed like an impossible case, since there were multiple parties that had a motive to put this young man down. For instance, Pat’s band mates couldn’t stand him, primarily because he believed he was an outright superstar and that never sits well in a team setting. And unbeknownst to Peregrine, one of Birdie’s friends, named Oona, had reason to put Pat down because he was involved in the death of her son. But as the evening rolled on and the investigation continued along, it became apparent that Oona was merely pondering upon revenge and was unsure of how to go through with it and Pat’s bandmates, whilst angry… didn’t have the acumen to commit murder. Instead, it became clear that someone had worked hard to really plan out Pat’s end, and someone that was willing to go this far, really needed a deep seeded reason to take a life and in the end, it turned out to be Pat’s ex-girlfriend Iris and her twin sister Lily, who both had beef with Pat. For long ago, he encouraged and helped Iris in terminating her pregnancy to keep his bachelor and superstar status intact, and she simply could not forgive him for that and let notions of revenge fuel her to this moment and an unfortunate future. Since of course Peregrine figured it all out and eventually, the police led Iris and Lily off in handcuffs. If anything, this was quite a simple and impactful exploration in regard to revenge. Since it made it clear that the right kind of pain, one that goes unresolved and could fester in the depths of our souls, can create all kinds of problems for us mentally and help to engender a need to settle the score. Especially when we don’t have a healthy support network surrounding us. Which is why Oona’s journey was of note in this tale, since Birdie made sure to take the time to help her old friend reconcile the fury and the pain that comes with not getting the justice, we think we deserve, giving her some semblance of peace at last and really in the end, this final mystery of season two is a wonderful way to cap off a phenomenal year of storytelling. In part because it ends with poignant commentary on a topic, we think we fully understand but do not, but also because… there was some wonderful character growth to be found in this story as well. For Samuel and Violetta came to discover that they’re starting a family and threw their worries to the wind and Birdie finally found herself in a good place mentally after working through the death of her fallen beau and most important of all, love was in the air in this finale. Because at long last, Peregrine and James finally were honest about their feelings for one another and in doing so, they were able to acknowledge that they belonged together and that made for a satisfying end to this tale. Since they went on a complete journey romantically and earned their love for one another and well, hopefully this genuinely joyful finale isn’t where the story ends. Because this particular series really is something quite special. In part because it is now set in 1965 and offers up a little old-school detective work. But more so because… it really is one of the most refreshing crime shows around. Since it features unique cases that explore aspects of murder that no other series is tackling, which provides the viewer with fascinating and relevant commentary on our own world. But most important of all, it’s filled to the brim with incredible characters that we love and its fun and dynamic and well… it absolutely deserves a third season. One that can allow for more growth and more explorations of the human condition and hopefully we will all get some good news about season three soon… so we can see what the future holds for Peregrine and James, now that they are finally ready to move forward as a couple. Until next year. |
