It is definitely safe to say, that the Disney+ series, Ahsoka, has been a refreshing and wondrous addition to the Star Wars Universe. In large part because it has done a wonderful job of expanding the era between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, but more so… because of the underlying themes it offers. Since this is a story deeply grounded in the power of the past, and the impact of lingering trauma. Giving rise to a supremely intelligent Star Wars adventure. But while it has indeed been wonderful to ponder upon some powerful themes, this is a story that has also left fans eager with anticipation for two key big moments. Specifically, a reunion between Sabine Wren and Ezra Bridger and the chance to finally see the enigmatic and twisted Grand Admiral Thrawn in a live-action setting, and well… it turns out that this week’s episode served as the right time for those all-important moments to come to fruition. For ‘Part Six: Far, Far Away’, saw our villains arrive at Peridea. A planet in that far away galaxy, that served as a graveyard for the Purrgil and was also home… to the Nightsisters. Who watched over a special power on this world. But more on that in a moment. Because the arrival of Morgan’s envoy, brought forth… the arrival of Grand Admiral Thrawn. Who through his special charm and ruthless leadership… managed to still command a bevy of loyal troops aboard the iconic and now decrepit Chimaera, and well… his arrival was a classic movie villain entrance and epic in nature, and it was everything we hoped for and more. For Lars Mikkelsen did not miss a beat as the character and exuded the fear and charm that we’ve come to expect from this character and truly… it was both satisfying and chilling to see him arrive in live action at last. But before we discuss the chilling nature of his return, we must talk about that other reunion. For the deal that Skoll made with Sabine, was honored in this tale, and she was allowed to head out into the world to find Ezra, for better or for worse. And after some rough moments in the wastelands of this world, a chance encounter with an indigenous species, brought her face to face with Ezra Bridger. Who had been surviving on this rock all this time with his new friends and well… this too… was an epic moment in nature. Since fans everywhere have been waiting for this duo to reunite after the harrowing end to their journey in Rebels, and this too… was a genuine and wonderful treat. Since this duo didn’t miss a beat and said plenty about how they felt about this reunion in the manner only they can. But alas, there was mention of the fact that there was more to this episode than just mere reunions and long-awaited fan moments. For Baylan Skoll made it clear in this story that he was on this world for long-term goals. For he didn’t believe in power or empires, he wanted something sustainable, something that would let him and his apprentice shine, and that was a fascinating setup for certain. Since it speaks to a fallen Jedi whose intentions are far different than we expected. And of course, we’d be foolish to not circle back and discuss the fact that Grand Admiral Thrawn is still as evil as ever, since he was quick to order Sabine and Erza’s death shortly after Sabine left to find the man she’s been searching for, for ages, and of course… it was chilling to see how quickly he prepared for a forthcoming fight. One that will involve another Jedi. For Ahsoka Tano is indeed on her way, carried safely in the maw of a Purrgil, and it is only a matter of time before she and Thrawn face off for one incredible battle to save another galaxy from more war and bloodshed. But while we wait to see that come to fruition, we can celebrate one amazing tale. One that really did deliver on its big moments. Which is always of concern, because there is always the potential for a big moment to go sideways. But the acting and the reveals themselves were handled perfectly here, and this story set up some huge moments and reveals for down the line, and well… all we can do now, is wait impatiently. For more of a Star Wars series that continues to deliver in every way imaginable and is inching closer to a powerhouse conclusion, one that will undoubtedly hold a flame to the finest final battles in the franchise. Until next time. Watch ‘Ahsoka’
