Written by Scott EdwardsWith so many things that are happening right now, it is hard to focus on what will happen in the future. Although we are trying to protect the planet for our kids to survive on, there is much more happening that we cannot control. It does not matter who you are or where you live or what you do, there is always something out there that is destined to stop you from achieving your goal. Perseverance is the only way to get things to change, but even now, in this day and age, it may not be enough to keep everything from falling apart. John Connor is living off of the grid. After the loss of his mother after Judgment Day was supposed to take place, he is still living in fear. With the dreams of his future haunting him, he still has a feeling that something bad will take place, but cannot tell when or where it will happen. But staying off of the grid has taken its toll on the future leader and when he is not able to go to a hospital or a clinic for medical attention, his life finds a way to drastically change. Kate Brewster is almost ready to get married, but she is still having her doubts. With her father always working, she is not able to get his blessing for the marriage, much less find out what he thinks about her future husband. Robert Brewster is in charge of something much greater at the Air Force, being in control of Skynet, the greatest computer program ever created. Knowing that he is not ready to hand over authority to a program, Brewster is trying to head off a virus that is infecting computers all over the world. Thinking that a human still needs to be in charge, he will not push the button to release the program into cyberspace until it is completely necessary. The T-X has been sent back to kill everyone that poses a possible threat to Skynet in the future. With its hit list intact, all of Connor’s Lieutenants are being killed off before Judgment Day takes place. But with updated programming, this super killer does not only have one mission and when it finds out that it is close to finding John Connor, it will redirect its attention. Being able to mold into whomever it touches like the T-1000, this Terminator is also able to control machines with just a touch. No technology on the planet will be able to stop this hunter/killer and with that in mind, it will not stop until its mission is complete. Meeting his childhood father figure in the T-101, Connor has to rethink his approach to the situation. Knowing that the future is going to happen, no matter what he does, he has to bond with a brand new robot. But when he finds out that Kate is the one that sent the outdated Terminator back to save them, he is left to question what happens to him after the war starts. The Terminator knows that it is obsolete in the battle against the T-X model, but has its mission and will not deviate from it, even when being turned against the ones it is programmed to protect. Knowing that Judgment Day is unavoidable, the Terminator tries to keep its two targets free from harm, but with the new model coming into play, it knows that it is fighting a losing battle and needs to get John and Kate to safety before time runs out. The third installment of the Terminator series, and it does not seem like it is enough. I don’t have a problem with the movie, it is just so action packed, it seems like it is way too short. Even with plenty of scenes that don’t host any dialogue, it is easy to get lost in the looks that the characters are giving each other. With action out of the wazoo, this was supposed to be the final installment of the series. I do like it thought that when you get to see how the war actually begins, it begins with a human's hand rather than a computer's. Even with this movie running way too short for my liking, I might have to consider this the best of the series. The story line is too good and it does not change direction for pacing or for the action that has taken over the screen. That is my opinion at least and please don’t hate me for it, but I might be a bit biased after meeting one of the actors after the movie came out. It was not her favorite movie in the series either, I just saw something different. Well, I'm going to take a little break in talking about the Terminator franchise. I know there is a part four, but I have failed to see it at this point since it was not in my destiny to, so I'll let John handle that one and I'll be back, to wrap up the series as it stands, with Genisys.

Written by Scott EdwardsIf you knew what the future had in store for you, would you try to change it? I for one do not want to know what the future has in store for me, since I do not feel like the future has been written yet, but there are people that believe differently. I just cannot imagine what life would be like if you already know what happens to you, especially if you are not allowed to change it. But if you do know what is going to happen and you decide to change something that should effect what happens, how do you know if it works, much less if you made a hint of a difference to what has already been predetermined. Sarah Connor is alive and well, even after a Terminator tried to complete its assassination of her. Now with her son, John Connor, Sarah has more to worry about than just bills and food, she has to find a way from keeping the future that she has been told about from taking place. But she has found that to be very difficult as she has been locked up in a mental hospital and is under the supervision of a doctor who is trying to get her to believe everything she experienced in 1984 was a delusion. Without any help, Sarah has to find a way to get out of the hospital to see her son and make sure he understands how important he is to the future survival of the species. John Connor is living in at a foster house while his mother is incarcerated. Not paying any attention to his new parents, John feels like his own mother is crazy as well. Without trusting any adults in his life, John has several methods of getting around and making it seem too easy. With the training this his mother gave him before she was locked away, John knows plenty about computers and can manipulate them into doing what he wants. But when he meets his new parental figure in the mall, he will gain an all new understanding as to what a machine can do. Being chased by a cop, John runs into the machine that has haunted his mother's dreams since before he was born. But the T-800 is not here to terminate the young man, but to protect him from the next killing machine that has been sent back to kill mankind's leader before Judgment Day takes place. Having to trust his new toy, John teaches the T-800 how to speak and act in different situations and although his mother does not know what to expect from the circumstance, she has to put her faith in the machine as well. Needing to stop Skynet from being created, Sarah has a new target and a way to kill him off before things go bad in the following years, but she will have to become someone that she is not, becoming a hunter/killer of her own. The T-1000 is the most advanced prototype that the machines have manufactured, composed of a mimetic poly-alloy, it is able to transform its appearance and become anyone that it comes in contact with. But this is not the only benefit to the new design, it is also impervious to being stopped, much less destroyed. Being able to regenerate after being shot by anything, the T-1000 is in on the hunt for young John Connor and is surprised when it sees that a former model is protecting the boy. Needing to find a way to accomplish its goal, the T-1000 takes on many different faces, even the ones of John’s trusted inner circle to gain access to the boy, but it still has a fatal flaw...just like its predecessor, the dogs can tell the difference. The second film in the Terminator franchise is just as good as the first. With more explosions and better special effects, the story is a little bit more believable. With Sarah Connor being locked up and accused of being mentally ill, her own son believes it as well and it is troubling her more than anything. Wanting to protect her boy and trying to stop judgment day before the world goes into the dark ages, Sarah has her own inner demons to fight off, in addition to a new terminator that is trying to kill her son. John is just a normal kid, but has learned so many things down the road and is able to fall upon his skills of being a mechanic and a hacker to get by in his everyday world, but he did not know what his mother was really preparing him for. Being smarter than most kids, John is forced to grow up quickly when his life is put into the crosshairs and he finds out that everything that his mother has been telling him all of these years is the truth and not just the rantings of a crazy person. Also a reluctant scientist takes to the stage in this edition, Miles Dyson, the original creator of the learning system that will lead to Skynet. Although he knows enough to make an old microchip come back to life, he also heeds the warnings from Sarah Connor about what he has created and steps up to destroy his work before it falls into the wrong hands. I think I liked this movie better than the first and I don’t say that a lot about sequels, but this one was just faster paced and had a better storyline than the first. And I have to do it for the signoff, I’ll be back. Written by Scott EdwardsIt is important to know what you want out of life. Whether it is becoming the top dog at your job, staying at home and spending time with your family, or being with the one that you love, you need to feel it in your bones. It is not a question that you have to answer right this second, but when the dinner bell comes ringing, you should not have any regrets on how you lived your life. With so many things happening on a daily basis, it is easy to lose sight of what you really want, so it is good to keep an eye your prize, no matter what it is. April is getting ready for a long weekend at her parent's cabin with her boyfriend Kyle when she gets a call from her father. As her parents have gotten divorced, her father wants her to pick up a couple of things for him while she is taking pictures of the estate. April knows she can get it all done and wants to have a talk with Kyle about their future while being away from everybody, but Kyle has a surprise for her when the buzzer in the apartment goes off. Melanie, Seth and Lex will be joining the happy couple on their little excursion and even though April is not happy about it, they are all welcome to come along for the ride. When driving up the abandoned street, Seth is shooting fireworks out of the sunroof causing the group to get pulled over by the local sheriff. Telling the kids to behave may not be enough for the law dog, but that is all he can do and wants to know if they know anything about the strange happenings going on in town. Being let off with a warning, the group finds the cabin and their party time starts in full effect. Wanting to be alone with April for a minute, Kyle takes her up to the bedroom and gets down on bended knee to propose. April does not know what to say, but she cannot accept the proposal since she still has so much of her life to live and does not want to have any regrets. With all of their friends standing outside of the door to celebrate the engagement, they are all shocked about what happened and continue to get drunk, but for alternate reasons. As April is trying to explain her thinking to Kyle outside, a ball of fire flies over the cabin and crashes in the distance. Wanting to investigate, the group piles into the car and pulls up to the wreckage to find that it is a UFO. Wanting to get out of the area, they stumble across footprints that are leading back towards the cabin. Not knowing what to expect, the power goes out and when they all go down to the basement to reset the breaker, they hear footsteps above their heads and know that they are not alone. Shooting the alien, the group rushes out of the cabin looking for safety and wind up at Travis’ house down the road. Hearing a farfetched story about how the government and aliens have a treaty, the group does not believe a word of it, but when he mentions that first blood has been spilt, they all know they are in for a long night. Needing to find a place to hide, the group is picked off one by one and there is next to no way to survive the invasion, unless of course, the government comes to help them. I don’t know why, but I am into alien invasion movies right now and don’t feel bad about it. They are fun and usually the problems all persist from the human race being too frightened about what is happening to take note that the invaders are not looking to harm them. Could that be the case in this movie? You will just have to watch and come up with your own conclusions as there are stories in the area of people being abducted and not returned. I am a huge fan of the opening of the movie, when a phone booth is taken away and returned without the caller inside, classic scare. You might have to ask yourself what you would do when Mr. Grey comes out of the heavens and starts to roam around you home. Will you try to fight him off, knowing that he has better technology than we will ever have, or will you try to communicate with him and hope that he comes in peace? Happy Viewing. Written by Scott EdwardsThere are very few times in life where you can trust someone you have just met. With so many people out there that are just looking to take advantage of whatever your situation is, it is next to impossible to know who you can even believe in. But there are those few instances where you just have a feeling about someone and know that they are on the level and looking to help you. Even if they may not be able to deliver everything that they have promised you, you still know that they will be a part of your life, no matter what curve balls are thrown your way. Sarah Connor is a lonely waitress that is just looking for Mister Right. After her date cancels on her, she decides to head out to the movies to fill her time and leave her roommate and boyfriend at home to take care of their own business. But what Sarah does not know will hurt her as there are two people from the future that are looking to hunt her down, one is looking to protect her and the other is looking to kill her. As anyone that is anyone has their name, number and address in the phonebook, it is an easy task to find Sarah Connor, but it may prove a little more difficult to locate the right one. Kyle Reese has been sent from the future to protect Sarah against a killing machine that has been sent back before him. Not knowing the current year and mugging a homeless man to get something to cover himself, Kyle runs into more problems from the get go than he could have expected. Needing to find the young woman who is the mother of the man that will lead the uprising against the machines that have taken over the world in his time, Kyle turns out to be very resourceful in finding Sarah, but he has to use her as bait to find out what the T-800 looks like. After watching the humanoid try to kill Sarah, Kyle is able to step in and put a wrench in the gears, but he knows that it is not enough and has to prove to Sarah that she is in trouble. Explaining himself and his mission, Kyle falls for the mother of his leader and steps over a line that he, himself did not want to venture. But with nothing to lose and everything to gain, Kyle puts on his solider face and battles the T-800 to the death. The T-800 is a new design the has infiltrated human strongholds in the future and now has made its way to the past. Looking like a human, only dogs are able to distinguish that it is not, and under that fleshy exterior is a hunter/killer made of metal. Traveling around the city without any issue, the T-800 has located many Sarah Connors from the phone book and is visiting each one in order. Without a reason to listen to any of them, the T-800 performs his duty and kills them on the spot. But when he terminates the wrong person in Sarah’s apartment, he has to venture out of his normal programing and head to a populated area where the kills become more apparent. Being stopped by Kyle on his first attempt to kill the woman, the T-800 has to take his game up a notch and will not retire until this Sarah Connor is dead. Nothing will stop the machine from accomplishing his goal, not even having to take the fight to the police station. Honestly, who did not love this movie when it first came out? This was something special that will never be duplicated in cinema and never should be. Yes, I know the special effects are a little bit dated, all right, a lot dated, but the story still stands tall and may even tower over the stars. There are several parts of this movie that may leave you wanting more, but hey, it was the eighties and very true to the time and looking back, I am pretty sure it was how most of the people behaved. I will admit that the cops in this movie made me cry with how bad they really were, but they did prove that numbers can be a blessing, along with a curse. Headphones, big hair, bad music, blood, action and a gas truck explosion, there is nothing better to make a blockbuster in the eighties and there is nothing that can replace it. I am a little ashamed to say that this is the first time I have watched this DVD since buying it countless years ago, but you know what, it ends up feeling like a new movie to the collection once again. Well, we've come to the end so I need a Sci-Fi sendoff, don’t have a set one yet, so I will try…the Future is only minutes away. Written by Scott EdwardsCovering something up can end up costing you in the long run. As individuals, there are certain things that we never want to have found out about ourselves that we try to deflect from prying eyes, but when the truth is uncovered, it becomes more of a problem than when the situation started. The government has been accused of many cover ups over the years, including Area 51, the Kennedy assassination and anything to do with aliens. When these files get declassified however, the truth comes out and someone is to blame for all of the mishaps that has taken place. At the Bikini Atoll nuclear bomb testing site in 1954, classified video footage shows a large creature with jagged spikes rising from the sea as a bomb detonates. This footage has never been made public, but scientists know that there is something much greater than humans on this planet that can cause much more harm than good. Trying to destroy this massive creature and writing it up as a ‘test’ of the weapons capabilities, a branch of government scientists are created to police monsters that still may be inhabiting the earth and they work hard to keep their existence from the general population. In 1999, Joe Brody receives a call from the nuclear power plant he is supervising in Japan. Moving his family out of the country, Joe only wants to do right by them and when reports of power outages start to arise and are becoming more frequent, he has to ensure the safety of the surrounding area, along with his family. As he arrives at the plant, he sends his wife to the lower levels of the station to investigate, but when the power outages along with tremors start to become more substantial, he knows that a mistake has been made. Trying to shut down the reactor before a breach occurs is his safest bet, but it does not happen fast enough as the latest jolt has ruptured the containment area. Losing his wife as the nuclear plant falls to the ground, Joe has his mind set on exposing the truth of what happened on that day and will not take no for an answer as he will keep on searching. Fifteen years later, Ford Brody is returning home after fourteen months out at sea. With his wife and son awaiting his long return, they do not want him to ever leave again. Receiving a call from the Japanese police, Ford finds out that his father, Joe, is in jail and he needs to leave once again to bail him out. Arriving at his father's home, Ford sees that Joe has not been able to let the past go as he was picked up for trespassing in the quarantined area that was his former home before the disaster years ago. With news clippings plastering his walls, Ford sees that his father will never be well and needs help and offers to take him back to America to be with his family. Joe will not agree to this, until he is able to explain what happened to the power plant and convinces his son to go with him, in search of his old research disks. Ford goes along for the ride and the two discover that there is no nuclear fallout or radiation surrounding the area, but are picked up by the police and taken to a research facility that is growing something much bigger than anyone alive has ever seen before. Godzilla is not just a story about the monster that terrorizes the world, but the people that are affected by his kind, along with the government trying to cover up their mistakes. Since the scientists are trying to nurture and grow something in the concealed confines of the area where the disaster took place many years ago, they find out that a specimen they located feeds primarily off of radiation and this is the perfect place to keep track of its progress. When the new creature comes to life however, the scientists have no way of stopping it and although they have to resort to things they never thought imaginable, they are no match for a monster that can harness the power of an EMP. Looking for a way to defeat the beast, they notice there is another call coming from the sea and with it could possibly be their salvation. A great beast called Godzilla that could realign the balance and hunt down and destroy the creature the scientists have brought to life. But when a third creature is discovered, the government has to take over and devise a plan to keep the battle away from populated areas to keep the civilian casualties to a minimum, but the great monsters are moving towards San Francisco and there is nothing that can stop them. Talk about a movie event for the ages, Godzilla has brought the excitement that has disappeared over the years back to the franchise. Greatest movie ever? I would not go that far, but I will say that it was larger than life. Walking through cities and just taking out buildings without even thinking about it was just nuts and not what you have seen in the previous films. Things I could see as problems in this film are few, but I have some complaints. After Godzilla is named our savior, why on earth would our military shoot at him, for any reason? Just goes to show you that there are some people that are higher up than me that come up with the decisions that might cause more people to lose their lives than needed. Is it always foggy in San Francisco? I guess that is a given, but is there a reason why the fog and smoke only moves in when you want to see the beasts? Last one, was there a reason why we could not witness the entire battle of the monsters? Pulling away, making them disappear in the fog/smoke and losing sight of the epic fights between the huge beasts is something that might leave some people feeling a little bit shorted. Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed this movie, if I didn’t, I would not have complaints about little things. Even though Godzilla might be a little overweight these days, he is still the King of the Monsters in my book and I just hope, they are able to come up with a strong follow up to the film that features a giant robot. It’s good to be the king. Happy viewing. Written by Mike CervantesTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...It’s always hard to come up with clever things to say about films based on pre-modern literature. It’s a great well of inspiration for many authors/directors to draw from, sure, but the stories themselves lend towards a narrative that is simple as can possibly be. My mind often goes to the 2007 film adaptation of Beowulf, based on an ancient narrative that goes 'man slays monster,' followed by 'man slays MOTHER of monster,' and ends with 'man is slain by dragon.' In order to modernize this, Director Robert Zemeckis effectively needed to take a third of the narrative and suggest that Beowulf made that part up, just so he could sew in a few veins of character motivation, depth, and transition into the piece. The mythical life and adventures of King Arthur actually has tons of interesting themes that are capable of sustaining it: Arthur pulling the sword from the stone, his tutelage under the wizard Merlin, his marriage to Lady Guinevere and her subsequent affair with Sir Lancelot, the quest for the Holy Grail, his rivalry with his sorceress half-sister Morgan Le Fay, and his inevitable death during a war against the armies of Mordred. Like the telling of legends themselves, though, it is up to the maker of a film based on these legends to take a few of the most juicy bits, concoct a decent-length film out of them, and see how their results play out before a screen-going audience. It is funny that for all of the sheer Arthurian legend that exists on paper, we’ve really only seen about three successful film contributions, the first is a 1967 film based on a musical, the second is a late-era Walt Disney film, and the third is a lengthy surrealistic skit by a little known comedy group called Monty Python. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword makes it pretty well known from the start that it isn’t going to be tackling its subject matter with any attention towards its lofty lore. At the very start of the film, the Warner Bros. logo glows with red runes as though it is pleading with its audience to pretend this is actually Lord of the Rings, followed by a preamble text suggesting an endless and possibly sequel-bound war between man and mage. We then get our first glimpse at a scene that we’ll soon see replayed multiple times in intervals throughout the film: in the middle of a battle where the evil mage Mordred is using King Kong-sized CG elephants to flatten Camelot, Uther (Eric Bana) sends his son Arthur away on a raft, in a manner not-unlike Superman, while his totally-a-traitor brother Vortigern (Jude Law) undergoes a mysterious ritual to seize the last bit of the Camelot throne. In the madness Arthur’s mother (Katie McGrath) is killed, Uther is turned to stone with the magic sword Excalibur imbedded in his back, and Arthur sails downstream. This begins the first of many head-scratching montages that the film seems to love to toss at the audience out of nowhere. It’s somewhat hard to describe in text but it’s just 3 solid minutes of a second-by-second smash-cut of Arthur living the hard-knock life as the orphan ward of prostitutes, doing odd jobs, taking punches, and stealing purses until he becomes an adult, played by Charlie Hunnam, and the sole master of the economy in the unnamed suburb of Camelot he lives in. The movie shifts from King Arthur to Robin Hood, at this point, as Arthur and his captains Tristan (Kingsley Ben-Adir) and Backlack (Neil Maskell) outwit the evil Sherriff Kjartan (Mikael Petersbrant), leading Arthur to be arrested and led to a labor camp. There, he successfully pulls Excalibur from the stone, and immediately gets set up by his evil uncle to be decapitated. He is then saved by a combination of his two friends, who happen to be spectacular archers, and a society of rebels led by Sir Bedivere (Djimon Hounsou) and a perpetually unnamed female substitute for Merlin (Astred Berges-Frisbey). So, the main narrative is now concerned with Arthur being the chosen one, the true-blood king, destined to destroy Vortigern’s evil reign. It’s strange, then, that the rest of the film tends to play out like a medieval Ocean’s Eleven, as this rag-tag band of rebels use the power of rapid smash-cuts to outsmart Kjartan’s men, and pull various jobs in order to erode the public’s belief in Vortigern. The editing at this point in the film becomes so erratic that it’s difficult to tell whether it was director Guy Ritchie’s choice to play out multiple scenes, 3 seconds at a time, to paint the whole movie, or if this film was originally longer, and the smash-cuts are a way of preserving as many scenes as possible while maintaining a short runtime. Whatever the reason was, it largely distracts from a film that admittedly looks very good for the periods when the plot isn’t swarming around your head like a cluster of angry hornets. There’s an especially well-shot sequence when, after the villains succeed in taking a minor victory form Arthur, he throws Excalibur into the river and runs into The Lady of The Lake for the first time, and that final climactic battle Arthur has with Vortigern that is supplied nicely with both CG and a decent closure to the overall plot. Other than that, though, there isn’t a point in this film when two scenes are not happening all at once, and the rapid-fire progression of the themes in this film are more dizzying than the potential 3-D viewing experience. It’s a real shame. Warner Bros. really could have had a franchise with this film. The cast is likeable enough, the storyline is daring and roguish, and the effects are wonderful. If it weren’t for the slap-dash editing, a lot of people could have walked away with a greater appreciation for the filmed Arthurian legend. As it is, there’s no point in expecting that both King Arthur and Guy Ritchie are going to be free agent commodities in Hollywood for the foreseeable future. Written by Scott EdwardsTechnology has come such a long way, even in my lifetime. I mean if you would have told me that we would be watching movies on discs, I would have told you that you were crazy when I was a kid. I have been privy to see so many changes over the years and hopefully several more are not that far off the horizon. I am still looking for the first flying car, (not a hover car, but one that actually flies) and a food replicator like they had in Star Trek, since I really do not like to cook. Captain Cyrus Harding and his men have been captured and are being led to their cells by the Confederates when Harding sees something that might lead to an escape. A hot air balloon is in the camp and ready to lift off, and even though none of the men know how to fly it, they are willing to give it a try. Being able to break free of their shackles, the men over take their captors and make it to the balloon, but the south is not ready to let them go so easily. Lieutenant Pencroft is very determined not to let any Yankee escape under his watch. Hanging on by a thread, Pencroft is pulled into the balloon and joins his born enemies on a trip that will change their lives forever. As the weather suddenly turns nasty, the group sees something strange open up in the clouds and before they can get the balloon to turn, they are sucked in. Waking up on a deserted beach, the group has been pulled to someplace they do not know. The men quickly find out that they are not alone on the island when they start hearing some sort of monsters growling in the woods. Since Captain Harding has gone missing, the men split up and try to locate their leader when an airplane comes into view, and crashes. Not knowing what this flying locomotive is, they follow it for fear that there is someone inside. Upon finding the wreckage, they locate Harding as well as he is trying to fight off the beasts that only seem to come out at night. Getting the two women on board to safety is their primary concern and when the sun comes up again, they scour the island to find a house that Harding has found in his travels. Julia and her sister Abby feel out of place with the strange men that they have been saved by, but when Julia starts to talk about where she is from, she starts to understand that it is more about when they are from. Flying into the Bermuda Triangle, she and Captain Harding come to the conclusion that they are not just lost on an island, but lost in time as well. Wanting to get off the island as soon as possible becomes a problem with a giant octopus patrolling the sea and there are no means of air travel. They are to be stuck on the unstable island until they die from either the attacks of the monsters in the woods, or until the volcano erupts. But all is not lost when the face of an old man of the sea comes to try to help them. Captain Nemo has been marooned on the island for many years and has given up on his attempts to leave, that is until he finds out that Captain Harding can bring scientific know how to the table as well. This version Mysterious Island may not be the best telling of the story, but it sure is very entertaining. With plenty of secrets that the island has in store, along with characters from the past being put in the same place at the same time, it is fun to say the least. I must admit I am a sucker for movies like this since the story is out there and there is no way that something like this could happen…or could it. Having a military captain team up with one of the greatest scientific minds in literature, Captain Nemo, who knows what they could create is just a blast. With monsters running around the island and the fact they find ways to fend them off for a little while, it is hard to imagine that there could be something worse on the horizon for these travelers, but there always is. Happy Viewing. Written by Scott EdwardsWith all that science has been able to teach us about our planet, there are still plenty of things that we do not fully understand about it. We know what causes earthquakes, but we still do not have a way to predict when or where they will occur. Same with volcanos erupting, we know what the signs are, but we have no way in telling how big the eruption will be when all is said and done. The earth holds her secrets near and dear to her heart and maybe one day we will be able to find out more about what else we have not figured out yet, before it is too late. Colonel Ryan Beckett is on his last mission before retirement. Wanting to be able to settle down and have some quality time with his daughter, he is ready for it all to end. But after retrieving Dr. Julie McGrath from an active volcano zone, he finds out that there is something more dangerous coming his way. Sitting in on the president's briefing about what is happening to the planet, he finds out that the world will be getting hotter and hotter every day, and within three days, an extinction level event will take place and no one is immune to the planet's wrath. With there being only one way to counteract the shifts in the tectonic plates, a location has been decided upon by the world's upmost expert, Dr. Sallin, on where to push back. Needing to set off a nuclear bomb in the L.A. city limits to the save the world, Beckett has no time to waste before taking on just one final mission. With his daughter inside the city limits, Beckett asks that she be removed before he goes forward and as far as he knows, she will be out of harm’s way when the explosion takes place. With his men ready to go and getting help from Dr. Sallin and Dr. McGrath, everything seems to be going fine, but they are in a race against time as the world is slowly burning itself out. The closer the Colonel and his men get to their objective, the more destruction they encounter. With looters trying to take away anything they can from the newcomers, men are lost in the process and it will continue to be a battle to the end. Faith has also not been able to escape the city limits, instead she is kidnapped by a psychopath who is trying to bring his own version of what is happening outside into her life. But what none of the opposition know, is that if Beckett and his men do not complete their mission, there will be nothing left for anyone to care about when it all shoots up in flames. Scorcher does not only refer to what will happen when the world goes up in flames, it also is a warning about those who could care less if they burn you. Who does not love a good apocalyptic movie with a little bit of heart behind it. This one has found a soft spot for me since it reminded me of a few people that I have worked with that made things a little bit difficult for me to get my job done. Needing to get everyone on the same page to see the bigger picture of what they are trying to accomplish, rather than being the lone hero, is really the lesson learned here. There is no fame, there are no parades if there is no one left to know what you did and that is something that some people need to understand. When the world is tearing itself apart, it is a nice idea that there might be a way to fix it, even though at this point, I am sure not even our greatest minds would give us a shot at pulling anything off like they did in this movie. Happy Viewing. Written by Scott EdwardsFate is something that numerous people may have a problem believing in. Thinking that everything happens for a reason, and that overall, we have no control over how it comes to light can leave several people wondering why we even try to live our own lives. The decisions that we make, no matter how small and insignificant we believe they are, can lead us to something that we could never imagine, but is it really our own doing? Young Ian Grey has a fascination with the human eye. Knowing that no two sets of eyes are the same, he has come up with a hobby of sorts of taking pictures of the eyes of anyone that will allow him to. Even though some people’s eyes may look the same, there are small variations in each set that makes them unique to their owners. Even as he grows into a molecular biologist, he still holds onto this hobby, but now for a different reason altogether. Trying to prove that the human eye has evolved over the many generations of our race is the goal, and the only reason behind such work is to disprove the beliefs of creationists. The only problem is that he has not been able to find a lab assistant that holds his same passion for the project. When Karen comes into his lab, Ian might not believe it was fate, but notices that she holds the same passion as he does and will do anything to get the job done. Knowing that his project is in the great hands of the intelligent undergrad, Ian is able to focus more on his personal life. On November 11th, Ian stopped by his local convenience store to buy a pack of cigarettes along with a lotto ticket, and that is when his life changed. With the abundance of the number eleven being put in front of him, he finds a pattern that leads him to a woman from his past. A short while ago, he had the opportunity to have sex with an attractive women at a Halloween party before his talking got him into trouble, but the one thing he remembers about this woman is the uniqueness of her eyes. As he follows this pattern on November 11th, he is drawn to a billboard that has her eyes showcased once again. Trying to find this woman once more, Ian stakes out her favorite coffee shop hoping to see her once again, but when she never shows up he decides to go back home. Getting on the train, Ian is surprised to find her sitting and possibly waiting for him. The chance of the two finding each other again is slim to nil, but Ian is not willing to believe it was anything but that. As Ian questions the woman that has stolen his heart, he finds out that she does not believe in chance, but fate. As the two bond over the next couple of months, Ian starts to discover that Sofi is his complete opposite in beliefs. While Ian focuses on the science of everything, Sofi believes that there is some higher power that is controlling their lives and has put the two together in this world. Ian will never share this view, but it is not enough to keep the two apart and they decide to get married on a whim. When the county clerk tells the couple that they have to wait twenty four hours before the marriage can become official, Ian receives a call from his lab that his experiment can be tested and he needs to come in for the report. Sofi questions Ian’s motives of wanting to play God, but still, the two are in love and when they start to consummate their new marriage, a vial of liquid spills in Ian’s eyes and blinds him for the night. The couple returns home, but the elevator in the building stalls and Ian is forced to find a way to get his himself and his love out before something bad happens... I Origins follows the life of Dr. Ian Grey as he is trying to prove that human race was grown out of evolution, not creation. As his focus is on the human eye, he takes pictures of the eyes of those willing to be photographed, but finding something different in Sofi’s eyes, he is taken back just a bit. As his views are challenged by his naive love, Ian is not deterred in his research and will continue at all costs, but when he loses Sofi in a freak accident he has to find a way to keep going. When he marries his lab tech and they have their first born's retina scans come up as someone else’s in a national data base, the two parents have to put their beliefs aside and follow the steps that are being put in front of them. Although Ian has put his feelings aside for Sofi, she is always in his thoughts and when he finds that there is another retina match for her eyes in the data base, he starts to believe that there is something more powerful going on than he could ever understand. A very powerful film by Mike Cahill and I would highly recommend it to anyone out there. After leaving the theater, I was still blown away by how the story took a turn and opened Ian’s eyes to chance that he may have been wrong after all of these years of study. They say that the eyes are the window to the soul and I have believed that for my entire life. You can tell so much about a person by looking into their eyes and that is something that everyone should take a good note of. Keep your eyes open for the signs that are in front of you, you never know what you will run into, no matter what your beliefs tell you. Happy Viewing. Also, watch to the end of the credits, there is a little something extra that will you find very enjoyable. Written by Scott EdwardsSince many people believe in love at first sight, the next question would be, is that kind of love everlasting? I know you can see somebody and envision the rest of your life with the person, but can you even try to imagine what might happen further down the road, and what if you have fights over the important things? If you can see what might happen in the years to come more power to you, but as most of us keep trying to find the person we want to spend the rest of our time with, we are careful in jumping in with both feet first as we have had problems with doing that in the past. When Cole is out at the local convenience store he gets put in a position to do something right. When he notices that the clerk is being held at gunpoint, he steps into action by trying to distract the gunman until the authorities can arrive. Cole however does not know what trouble this can bring upon himself when the gunman shoots the clerk anyway and makes off with the money. Wanting to clear his head, Cole gets a call from his good friend inviting him out for a drink. Thinking this is the right idea, he agrees, but does not want to end up at another house party, he just wants to some peace and quiet with his drink. Getting the address, Cole is not surprised, yet not disappointed that he is at another house party when he meets Maya. Hitting it off from the moment they start talking, the two know that they will be happy with each other for the rest of their days. Throwing out fun conversations about the future, they both decide that they should get married, but Maya is not up for the conventional ceremony, so she deems them married right then. Time passes, and the two are happy and carefree, but Cole is tormented with what happened the night the two met as he keeps running into the clerk that he witnessed die months ago and it is destroying his life. But that is not the only thing happening in the world, as an asteroid is moving towards the planet and starting to enter the atmosphere. Finding out that there is an alien invasion happening, Cole and Maya have to flee the city with what they have on their backs and try to survive as long as possible. Cole starts to change his outlook on life, no longer being the happy go lucky guy that he once was, he is taking responsibility for his and Maya’s life and takes it seriously. Directing his love to stay away when he goes out on his daily runs for food, Maya starts to question if his love was ever true and if they should continue under their charade of being a couple any longer. This is more of a character study as you get bounced between present day and the past, watching as Cole and Maya struggle to survive an alien invasion. Since they are both looking for the good in the world before it is taken over by an extermination force, they are challenged with keeping their humanity and relationship intact. With the story bouncing around from when they met, to what they are doing to survive, it is a movie you need to watch very closely. If you miss one of the breaks in the story, you will be lost and not fully understand what is happening on the screen. I did enjoy how both storylines were tied together and this one makes you pay more attention than most alien movies. There is one miss with the movie in my opinion, and that is not being able to see the collapse of society, along with the invasion taking full effect, but the couple did not see it and I can understand why it was left out.
