‘Troppo’ Recap: ‘This Is Who I Am’

We are taught from a very early age, that when tough times find us… we should always hold our heads high and do our absolute best to keep a chipper demeanor while we push through them. Because in this modern world, doing so is believed to be inspirational and brave and well, it doesn’t take long for us to come to realize that this particular lesson, one that was hammered into our skulls for years on end… is total and utter nonsense. Because it basically asks us to shut off our emotions and bury our problems rather than properly deal with them, which in turn makes us stagnant growth wise and potentially creates problems down the line… when the trauma associated with that moment, catches up with us… as trauma always does.

But thankfully… we are reaching a point in modern society’s existence where such bravado is being acknowledged as well, dumb. And that feeling your feels and addressing those tough times is the better way to handle things. Since it will bring us peace, perspective, growth and wisdom. The kind that will allow for us to accomplish wonders and really, the benefits of handling tough times and trauma for that matter as well, is top of mind today, simply because the next episode of Troppo on Amazon Freevee puts those benefits on full display. A feat that ‘This Is Who I Am’ accomplished, by giving Amanda and Ted a little downtime after that harrowing ending at the end of the last tale. Since it was revealed that Amanda came down and slept at Ted’s after running off into the night and was finally lucid and ready to perhaps face some truths about her life.

The kind that Ted shared with her and there were truths about his life that she shared with him and being honest in that manner and acknowledging that they were facing the dark in their minds and their memories… really did help them to begin to heal and it started to give them a newfound focus. The kind that allowed for Ted to finally start to see the case for what it was, a corporate cover up killing. Because a grand look at the evidence really didn’t suggest a stumbling upon a mistake or jilted lovers. This was cold and calculated and scary and after a good and honest talk with Olivia, he confirmed his concerns and came to realize that he needed to find the smoking gun to close this case and believe it or not… he did.

But before he could present that to the police… Amanda’s attempts to reconcile more of her past, since she had further to go than Ted… sadly led to some serious trouble. Because she and Ted postulated a great deal of theories about how Lars died, and how it might have been because he was involved and knew too much and needed to be moved out of the way. But Amanda just couldn’t buy that, she needed to know that this was an act of cruelty and well, by playing Twist and Bryce off of one another… she finally got her answer. In that, Bryce was stealing venom from Twist, and Lars found out about it and tried his best to confront and stop such matters. Only to be poisoned by Bryce to the point where he lost his damn mind and rushed into the water, making it clear that murder was indeed the name of this game and sadly… that confession is what brought about the trouble in question.

For Twist used a snake bite to get that truth out of Bryce, and… he left Bryce to die as Amanda scrambled to find the Anti-Vemon and she was sadly… unsuccessful in the hunt. For Bryce died and since she was there, Damford immediately assumed she was at fault and arrested her incorrectly. An act that speaks to how hard it can be for others to shed their view of us, regardless of how hard we work to change that. But what matters more, is that facing their past and their fears helped Amanda and Ted to grow and be brave enough to uncover the truth. The whole mess at the end was simply circumstantial and out of their control, and not a penalty in the slightest. Plus, this moment sets the stage for one hell of a powerhouse finale. For now, Ted has to race against the clock to save his friend and break this wide open and it will be fascinating to see if he can pull off such incredible feats with such prejudice surrounding, he and Amanda, as season one of this phenomenal series, comes to a close.
