It is definitely safe to say, that the majority of humanity has a pretty baseline view of how justice is served in our world. Because we believe in our system and we believe that following it to a tee gets people harmed by criminals the best chance at peace and closure, and a sense of real justice. But that is a worldview that eventually changes for a lot of us. When we come to realize how flawed the system can be, and how sometimes… serving up justice can absolutely upend a world through and through. Especially when a group of people are involved in a nasty crime and their capture can and will destabilize a way of life. Which means that in some cases, justice has to be handled differently, so that lives aren’t torn asunder and well, that unique aspect of justice is top of mind today, because it showed up in the season three premiere of The Madame Blanc Mysteries on Acorn TV. For ‘Ocean’ featured quite the unique case for Jean take part in. For this go round, a group of divers that were eager to conduct a survey in the name of science, saw their expedition end in both tragedy and surprise. For they lost one of their own and they also discovered a rare coin that would produce quite the bounty and well… considering the circumstances in which one of the parties, died… Jean was quickly forced into action. Because all evidence pointed to foul play, and well… as Jean dug in… she came to uncover some unsettling facts. In that, she was dealing with treasure hunters who wanted those rare coins, and they were also dealing with a killer… that put a person down in the name of saving the environment. For it turned out that the deceased’s fellow pirates were not responsible for his end, but a local who worked on the docks and did this… so the treasure would stay a secret. Since its discovery would up end the eco system and the way of life in this town. Which meant… everyone was at a crossroads. Wherein they could follow the letter of the law and let the city come under fire for this discovery… or bend the rules a bit and bring about peace. The latter of which, is the route that Caron took. By having the guilty confess to murder for undoubtedly different reasons before forgetting the treasure in a manner that would raise no suspicion. Keeping this town safe from being plundered or dug into, while reinforcing the fact that sometimes… justice is handled in a greyer manner than we might like. But it is necessity when livelihood is involved and that made, for one powerful premiere. One that added new depth to the characters and the town they love, while affirming that particular theme and the wonder of this story didn’t end there. Since there were also some moments of growth involving Gloria. Because her father and his old ways caused her trouble in her new relationship, and because of that… she stood up to her dad. Put him in his place and prompted him to get an idea, albeit briefly, of what life would be life if he kept disrespecting his daughter. Which took some guts on her part and added to the depth and humanity of the story. In fact, if this episode is any indicator of things to come, it would seem that season three of this show is going to focus heavily on the humanity of these characters and their lives, underneath the umbrella of mystery and well… that’s just fine. Because we love these characters, we love the cases, and blending those two elements together will make for a unique cozy mystery. One that will captivate and connect, and it will be interesting to see what other fascinating stories await us at season three continues along. Until next time. Watch ‘The Madame Blanc Mysteries’
