Over the course of the past couple of weeks, we’ve sung some serious praises regarding the new Disney+ series, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, and rightfully so. Because it has done the impossible and given everyone a sense of awe and wonder they haven’t experienced since the first time they settled in to watch a Star Wars story. Not to mention, the series is just plain fun, and enjoyable from beginning to end, and well… we aren’t done singing praise for this show just yet. Simply because the next episode in this series, took the time to add another wondrous surprise the fabric of this story, all courtesy of an unexpected detour in ‘Can’t Say I Remember No At Attin’. For this particular tale saw the Skeleton Crew, seemingly return home. For they came out of hyperspace above a world with the same green barrier as theirs, and the ship was quickly locked into an autopilot course, which indicated signs of life and civilization. But alas, once the crew landed, all they found was devastation and a badly broken world. For somewhere along the line, the people of this planet, split apart and became feudal in nature. To the point where endless and generational war was now in play, and of course, the crew was now caught up in it. Because in order to understand what happened here and to potentially find a way home, they had to fight in this war and showcase their worth. They didn’t want to, but they had no choice and that led to some powerful moments, all of them courtesy of Neel. Because the longer the crew trained under the guidance of the faction they were conscripted into, the more Neel was able to be himself and showcase how a little kindness goes a long way. Because he noticed there was great suffering on this world, and a struggle for resources, and he saw no need to do anything but be kind and that had an impact here and offered up some lovely lessons for all of us. In that, kindness costs nothing, and we should pay it out as often as possible. Regardless of the darkness we face. Of which there was plenty, since the mission was at hand, and our young heroes were about to be tasked with so much to just find their way home. But thankfully, they didn’t have to fight, because of an unexpected and logical heroic act brought forth by Jod. Who basically used Wim’s Republic credits to solve the situation in a peaceful manner. Because hey, money talks. But it did de-escalate the situation, and it did allow for our heroes to step into the Supervisor’s Office of this world and learn the names and coordinates of the various other ‘At’ planets that made up the group of hidden worlds mentioned last week, and sadly… their information was incomplete at best. Since someone destroyed the coordinates to At Attin, and that someone we learned, courtesy of a brilliant idea from Fern, was SM-33. For he was ordered to blast those coordinates so that no one else could go there but SM-33 and his old captain, and there were other safeguards put into place as well. Such as a directive to cause harm to anyone smart enough to override SM-33’s memory protocols on the matter. Thankfully though, Jod stopped that before it could get ugly, and well… what mattered more here… was that this episode, helped build a grand mystery for our heroes to solve. Not just getting home mind you, but the mystery behind these ‘At’ worlds. Because clearly, they were of serious significance to the Old Republic, enough to remain hidden away, and now we simply must know why and how they managed to be abandoned and forgotten when Palpatine reformed the Republic into the Galactic Empire, and well… creating a grand mystery four episodes in is no small feat. But this show has pulled it off and left us counting down the minutes until next week’s episode. So, we can see… what other surprises await the Skeleton Crew as they work to unlock the mystery of these hidden worlds and find their way home. Until next time. Watch ‘Skeleton Crew’

Caution: This article contains spoilers for the Season 3 Holiday Special of ‘The Chelsea Detective’.
For the most part, holiday specials do their best to be as cheery as can be, and it makes sense as to why. After all, we firmly believe that the holidays are a perfect and joyous time. Wherein only good vibes can be found and where bad things take a break from permeating our lives, and we hold to that… because there is some measure of love and harmony during the season, and spending time with loved ones and getting and giving gifts only adds to what is really… a silly belief. Because the world doesn’t stop turning just because we have the perfect gift picked out for a loved one, and good vibes sadly do not create a season free from strife. Which is likely why, we are starting to see specials in this vein, shatter that fantasy. Not to be rude or cruel, but to help us truly process the season and its meaning and cherish it all the more and that is why the holiday special for The Chelsea Detective on Acorn TV is worth celebrating. For it is that rare, slice of life holiday special, as evidenced by what DI Max Arnold goes through in ‘Everyone Loves Chloe’. Since we see him spend a lot of time dealing with a toothache in this tale, while struggling to reconcile with Astrid. Because life does go on while carolers sing and peppermint mochas are served, and we need to acknowledge that and understand that, along with the other bold message present in this particular tale. In that, bad things do indeed happen during the holidays. As evidenced by the case that Max and his team deal with in this special. Because they are tasked with solving the harrowing murder of a former popstar named Chloe. Who brought forth a megahit Christmas jingle that has withstood the test of time, and the investigation into her life, revealed all kinds of ups and downs for the now deceased star. Such as how her relationship with her estranged father did not improve until far later in her life, and that despite her efforts to try and get back into the public eye in a positive manner, she was stonewalled at every turn, and subject to scrutiny untold and backlash from people she’s knows for ages. All of which made it seem as though, some obvious suspects were indeed the culprits here. Since her former manager had every reason to be the one to put her down, and even her close inner circle was suspect. But in the end, it turned out that a crooked cop used his brief friendship with her to his advantage. Since he was able to hang and party with a star until she no longer felt a desire to do so and was ready to expose him for his sour deeds. Which of course, ticked that cop right off and put him in a situation where it was either pay the piper, or handle matters on his own, and clearly, he chose the latter and ended dear Chloe’s life. But thankfully, Max and the team brought him to justice. But what’s grander here, is the sheer fact that this was not a fluffy holiday special. Sure, it was set during the season, but it was all about realism here. Since we saw Max deal with some very real things we somehow forget about during the holidays, and the case truly made it clear that there is no pause during the season from the world’s ailments. Life does go on, and that means it is all the more important to cherish the great moments we do have when we sit down to celebrate. Which gives rise, to another great episode from this series. One that remains unconventional and meaningful, and this does build up some serious hype for season three itself. So, we can enjoy more powerful cases from a team of great people, just trying to do right in the world as they struggle with its highs and lows. Until next time. Watch ‘The Chelsea Detective’

Caution: This article contains spoilers for the Season Three Finale of ‘Dalgliesh’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
It is definitely safe to say, that this explosion of crime dramas on television, has allowed for us to learn a great deal about what motivates a person to commit to the ultimate act. Since these shows have pondered upon the various litany of emotions that push people to kill, and we of course… know that money can be a mitigating factor. Not to mention we’ve seen time and time again, how a perfect storm of bad moments can also just break a person and push them into darkness. Which is why it is always refreshing and amazing when we see a crime drama ponder upon new reasons why people kill, simply because in this day and age it’s hard to find something new to explore. But the season three finale of Dalgliesh on Acorn TV, managed to find something new to ponder upon, courtesy of Commander Adam Dalgliesh’s toughest and most complex case to date in ‘Devices and Desires’. For he was sent out to look into some strange deaths in a town near a nuclear power plant. The kind that had the top brass concerned that agents of chaos were using the murders as cover to do something nefarious to the plant and well, there was real cause to be concerned about that. Because at one point, it became inherently clear that foreign agents were indeed present in the town and in the power plant, and oddly enough… the search to find the bloodthirsty killer in this town, was enough to get them recalled and eventually put down for failure. Because there was serious trouble happening in this town, and that put a lot of attention upon it. For someone was strangling women and carving an ‘L’ into their foreheads, and since the power plant’s name started with an L, that was where the fear and confusion started from on high. But in the end, this turned out to be nothing more than a serial killer. One whose mother was named Lil, and since the killer also offed her, he made his hate for her and hate for women his calling card. All of which made it seem as though, madness was the reason for killing in this tale, but there was something more at play here. Because shortly after the serial killer in this down was discovered dead, another victim, one that was a higher up at the power plant, turned up, and the circumstances surrounding her passing, matched the serial killer’s patterns. But there was one problem, she died… at the same time the killer did. Which meant, there was a copycat killer in this place, and with the majority of the issues solved, the temperature cooled in the town and the plant’s manager prepared for a new role in the government. Which allowed for the truth about that final death to come forth, courtesy of another look at the evidence. That revealed that the plant manager’s sister, an acquaintance of Adam’s, was responsible for that final death. Because the deceased in question had information that could have ruined the plant manager’s ascension to the top, and he also knew the details about the case and well… family talks. So, his sister knew what was happening and killed to protect her brother and pay him back. Since this was not the first kill for this old acquaintance. In fact, her first was her father, and her dear brother made sure she did not take the fall for it. That means, this episode explored the hideous nature a payback killing, and that was a unique aspect of murder to explore, and that made for one disturbing tale. One that was so epic, and so moving. Courtesy of the plot, and the little moments present that saw Kate return to the story, and saw Adam open up about his pain and anguish before giving us hope for a better future for him emotionally. All of which made for one amazing finale. One that really did up the ante for this show while showcasing how weird murder can be, and hopefully… there are more stories about Adam on the horizon. So, we can enjoy more unique cases such as this one and spend more time with a brilliant investigator that we utterly adore. Watch ‘Dalgliesh’
Written by John Edward Betancourt We live in some interesting times when it comes to the world of television. After all, television has never been more popular, and it truly is enriching our lives like never before, courtesy of new depth and fresh messaging. Not to mention, there’s more to watch than ever, and we are seeing some original ideas come to life thanks to the demand that is in front of creatives. But of course, there are some downsides to this era of peak television. Since some stories are buried beneath the massive releases coming out and some shows are ending well before they should because of the competitive nature of the marketplace, and that makes fans nervous and has them and creatives living from season to season for some shows. But one particular network is trying to get ahead in such matters and give peace to the fans and move shows to conclusion in a proper manner, and that network is Apple TV+. For they have on several occasions, let shows wrap up the way the story dictates and offer early renewals to keep the fans happy and keep jobs for hardworking people, and today’s announcement falls in line with that. Since earlier, Apple TV+ let it be known that its hit series, Silo, will be receiving a third and a fourth season. With the fourth season serving as the show’s last. Allowing for the creative team, time to now chart the story toward its end and wrap it up in a manner worthy of what’s already been presented to us, and to properly offer this news the reverence it deserves, here are all the details on this two-season renewal, courtesy of Apple TV+. ‘Following the acclaimed second season premiere of “Silo,” Apple TV+ today announced that the global hit, world-building drama has been renewed through season four. The fourth season of “Silo” will bring the series to its final, thrilling chapter, telling the complete story of Hugh Howey’s New York Times bestselling trilogy of dystopian novels. Caution: This article contains spoilers for the Series Premiere of ‘The Day of the Jackal’.
For the most part, stories that revolve around the capture of a mysterious assassin, follow a similar formula. Wherein an ambitious investigator is shocked to learn that people are dying suddenly by way of an assassin. One who is flawed, fallible and sometimes ready for salvation and of course, they and the investigator enter into a grandiose cat and mouse game where being chased by the forces of good wears down the assassin, who dies in a grand showdown with the hero. Which is, the perfect way to explore a story about good and evil and the nuances of how people falter and fall in this life, and it brings about a great and enticing story that audiences do enjoy. In fact, this formula is so commonplace it is rarely deviated from. But now and again, you’ll run into an assassin story that adds something refreshing and dynamic to the mythos, while still staying true to what audiences love and it just so happens that Peacock is now home to a dynamic new assassin story, that truly does offer something familiar and something supremely new by way of The Day of the Jackal. Which is surprising, since this particular story in its original form, helped to create many of the elements we celebrate in this genre. But this particular iteration of the story… goes so many new places and it does so… by offering up some fascinating changes to both character and story. For instance, this time around the Jackal, is put on the radar of the world by pulling off one of the most ambitious assassinations ever. Since he, from a stunning distance and through incredible equipment, and shocking deception, manages to take out a German Chancellor candidate that is eerily reminiscent of a certain political leader in America. Which brings forth a firestorm for certain. One that makes its way to MI6 in Britian, wherein we meet the Jackal’s foil, a sniping expert named Bianca, who is eager to start the hunt and uncover who did this, and why it happened and that sets the stage for the cat and mouse game. One that at first glance appears to be the usual run of the mill stuff. But it is what happens in between those big moments that make this such a unique entry into the genre. In large part, because we spend a lot of time with the Jackal, and we learn a great deal about how he operates. Which is mostly in silence. Which allows for Eddie Redmayne, who plays the Jackal, to just shine and showcase his abilities as an actor. Since his ability to sell emotion with a mere look, helps us to understand the fury the Jacksal sometimes carries, and that he is a cautious man that truly does this for the money and nothing more. Making him a fascinating and sometimes apathetic character that is so vastly different from the other assassins we see in this type of story, and that compels us to continue the journey and see what else we can learn about him. Not to mention, Bianca is also fascinating. Because she’s not some lone wolf employee eager to prove herself to the world and be the hero. She’s a mother, a wife, someone we can deeply relate to and believe in. But more importantly, those moments, and the slow burning style of the series, informs us that this will be more character study than cat and mouse game. One where we get to know the people involved and not the tropes and concepts they could stand for. Giving rise to a supremely realistic opening chapter to a long and winding journey. One full of surprises and tension as well. Because make no mistake about it, when this series is showcasing the talents of the Jackal, we are on the edge of our seats. But what matters most, is that all of these elements bring forth just good television. Because this really is an engaging series as well, one that truly sucks you in with its story and its characters and it does have us eager to see what lie ahead as Bianca and the Jackal begin their grand back and forth. Until next time. Watch ‘The Day of the Jackal’

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode 108 of ‘Happy’s Place’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
If there is one question, we ask ourselves often in this life, it would be… what is the point of family? Because sometimes, our family, be it chosen or be it by blood… frustrates us to no end. Because they make poor choices in the moment or sometimes take on bad advice, and we are the ones that have to help them see the light and right the wrong and that’s tough. But we do it, because family is everything, and they would be there to help us if we needed it and it often takes those tough moments to appreciate what we have, and that is top of mind today, because everyone went through those ups and downs of family life in the next episode of Happy’s Place on NBC. For ‘Dear Jack’ saw a few things take place in the bar. Such as how a review of the bar made Gabby feel inadequate and it wounded her. Mainly because the review praised Emmett over anyone else and called her out with the wrong name and that just sent her into a tailspin. Because she wanted to feel recognized and loved and important, and she lashed out at Emmett over this. Going so far as to try and outcook Emmett and snap at him. Which Takoda pointed out was mean and wrong and that prompted Gabby to be reminded of how we need to celebrate the wins even when they’re off by a bit. Since the article DID praise her, and respect others and celebrate their wins too. Because family is all in it together and that made for harmony once she learned that lesson. While Gabby learned that lesson, Bobbie was learning some of her own about the ups and downs of family life via Isabella. Since she revealed she had a boyfriend back home that she refused to break up with. Despite the fact the relationship was not going well, and that Isabella was unhappy. Which prompted Bobbie to offer up an old remedy, the Dear John letter. Which should have put an end to this quick since the words within it were strong and decisive. But alas, it somehow motivated Jack, Isabella’s boyfriend, to pack up his life to be near Isabella. Which she quickly accepted for reasons that outright broke Bobbie’s heart. Because Isabella just spoke to how she found safety within a status quo, and that she likely would never do better. But Bobbie knew Isabella was destined for more, and that with honest advice and the right guidance that only family could provide… she could find more. So, Bobbie spoke from the heart and talked up her little sister and that did indeed prompt Isabella to stand tall and take agency of her life. Because better was out there and she could have it. All of which brought forth… a perfect examination of how family life both frustrates and inspires. Because it is filled with rivalries and stupid decisions like what Gabby did here. But it is also filled with tempered minds and kind souls that keep us on track and remind us to be better to others, and of course… it showcased how we have a positive impact on family in both storylines. Since Takoda did guide Gabby back to the light side and Bobbie… was just the best here. Because she really did play the part of big sister, and she really did the right thing here once she looked past the letters and the fluffy manner in which she thought this could end. And in doing so, she gave Isabella one hell of a boost. One that she will carry with her for some time and all of this… made for a beautiful episode. One that just reminded us of the beauty of family, and how it really is worth its weight in gold. Because where else do you get the honesty, we saw here? The love we saw here, and well… that made for a satisfying and funny journey. One that definitely left us with our hearts filled, and our minds ready… for more beautiful lessons from this downhome series about the people we call… kin. Until next time. Watch ‘Happy’s Place’

Caution: This article contains spoilers for episode 308 of ‘Lopez vs Lopez’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
One particularly interesting quirk about adulthood, is that as adults… we are a bit hypocritical at times. Especially when it comes to what we teach children. For we tell them one thing, then do another, and quickly justify that action by asking kids to be better than we are. But alas, all that teaches them, is that it is okay to indulge in behavior that is unbecoming as long we have an out, and well… clearly… that’s something we should not do. We should practice what we preach at all times, and really show children the right way and well, this lesson is top of mind today, because it was on display in the next episode of Lopez vs Lopez on NBC. For ‘Lopez vs Deadline’ saw the house in the midst of emotional chaos. For several reasons. For Chance was entering his honesty phase. Wherein cutting statements came into play and wounded everyone. Since he made Rosie feel old, Quinten feel as though he needed to update his look, and that his mother, Mayan… needed to work on her skin care routine. Which plunged all of them into a tailspin, one that prompted one of them… to take it out on George’s latest venture. Which was to enjoy the foods that an air fryer could prepare. For someone smashed his fryer to bits and prompted George to begin his own investigation into who commit such a heinous crime, with minimal results. Mainly because everyone had their alibi. Since everyone was working on what Chance pointed out. Which led to a grand gambit on George’s behalf, wherein he used Chance as bait to get all three of them, to admit to smashing his machine. Which was a shocker but spoke to the central theme. After all, this entire episode had the adults doing one thing while saying another. For they told Chance to not be as honest, and to respect other’s feelings as needed. But at the same time, they were ignoring George’s and letting simple words get to them and being rude in the process. Which sent mixed messages to Chance and that did not need to be the case. For in reality, all of this could have been avoided with some simple edicts from the adults. In that, they could have better explained to Chance how honesty works, and what words should be said and they of course… should have showcased the power of words by explaining how his words hurt them. Because he did indeed cut deep, and they did show the wrong way to handle things by listening to his advice and lashing out. But in the end, they got there, and they got there with George by doing the right thing. Which did help and of course… that’s all we can do sometimes, is pick up the pieces and do right by others after we’ve hurt them. All of which led though, to a wonderfully complex episode for certain. One that really did explore this in a manner, that was super realistic. Because we’ve seen our parents do this, hell, they did it to us. Not to mention, we’ve done it to our kids. Because in the end, we are all flawed and all trying to do our best, but it is nice to be reminded how and when to take the high road. So that we don’t make this a habit, and that led to one thoughtful tale. One that truly challenged the audience in a healthy manner, while offering up some laughs upon the way. Since it was funny to see the responses to Chance’s biting words, and George’s quest for justice here, was pretty phenomenal and quirky. All of which just reminds us that this show is special and meaningful, and it will be interesting to see what other complex lessons await us when the show returns in 2025. Until next time.
