It is definitely safe to say, that there are several big questions hanging over season five of the wildly popular NBC series, Magnum P.I. In that, we are quite curious to know who was behind the attack on Captain Greene, and of course… we’ve also been wondering how the working dynamic between Juliet Higgins and Thomas Magnum will change now that they are happily involved in one another. Because now matters of the heart are intertwined with the cases they work, and that can change a great deal as to how they approach their work, and it just so happens, that the next episode in this wondrous series answered one of those questions… whilst lightly addressing the other. A feat that ‘NSFW’ accomplished, by having Magnum’s buddies, and himself for that matter… become vigilant about their surroundings. Because while they weren’t positive that this mysterious and vengeful enemy had their identities in hand, it was better safe than sorry. Which is why TC loaded up the launchpad with cameras, to ensure he could see what was coming, and Magnum was quick to keep an eye over his shoulder for the same reason. And while we didn’t learn more about this mystery villain in this particular tale, allowing for that question to persist, the other one regarding how romance is going to change the working dynamic between Higgins and Magnum, was addressed courtesy of a new case and also because of everyone’s concerns about that lurking threat. For Juliet and Thomas were hired by a local entrepreneur to find his missing CFO on a critical day for the company. Only to discover that said CFO had been brutally murdered, by the CEO’s daughter no less, since there was a messy love affair involving these two top executives that broke her, psychologically. But while that was indeed a fascinating case to watch play out, one that saw the wrong person be held accountable to protect a young life… it was the worry on Juliet’s mind that elevated this sequence. Simply because… she said aloud; that she was greatly concerned for Thomas’ safety. Because no one knew if that mystery villain was on the prowl and having Thomas run around the island and investigate this death, made him vulnerable and this was just amazing to see play out. Because this sequence made it clear that the danger that comes with this job, and the risk inherent as well… will force this duo to proceed with more caution than they are used to, to watch each other’s backs a little closer and… they will undoubtedly worry when they are apart. Because they genuinely care about one another and want to make sure the person they desire to come home to is safe and sound, and that likely means… this new dynamic will create some fascinating conflict and some wonderful moments as well as their feelings grow. Which adds depth to this relationship, and adds some wonderful realism to this show, and a round of applause is in order for the writer’s room for adding this new wrinkle to the fold. Because it will make this show that much better and obviously this change, and Rick’s wonderful storyline involving his baby sister and her nuptials and her coming out story, informed us that season five is going to be about enriching the characters, and push their adventures to new heights and that’s just wonderful. Because we love these characters, and watching them grow and become more before our eyes is what we crave as an audience and truly, it will be interesting to see what that is going to look like in the weeks to come, now that the show has made it clear this is going to be a major focus in season five, and it will be equally as interesting to see… how this whole mess involving the late captain is going to play out. When the show is finally ready to properly address it. Until next time.
