Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...Season three of The Flash has been setting us up for quite the incredible battle. Week after week, Savitar and his mad plan to restore the powers of Metas has slowly been coming to fruition and well, I think it is safe to say that we expected his evil machinations to continue to build as the season chugged along, leading to an epic showdown between he and Barry in the season finale. But rather than wait an entire half year to deliver a big battle royale between good versus evil, last night's episode, 'The Present' decided instead that this would be the proper moment for these two to square off, but rather than give us an hour long explosive fist fight this particular showdown played out in fascinating and unexpected fashion. Because the blows that came out of this episode were more psychological in nature, but equally as devastating in a story that saw Barry making peace with Julian at last, while learning everything and anything that he can about Savitar and recruiting a little bit of help from Jay Garrick on Earth-3 in what turned out to be a stunning midseason finale. In fact, this episode wasted no time in hitting the ground running, with Barry and the gang turning their attention to Savitar once again following the events of 'Invasion!' and after doing a little bit of digging on the Speed God, the team came to discover that Julian had done a little work on the stone that Savitar uses to create Metas a few years back, searching for it on an expedition that according to Julian, was a grand waste of time. Knowing that Julian was going to continue to be a dead end, Barry made a trip to Earth-3 to talk with Jay, helping the elder speedster with his world's version of The Trickster (complete with an awesome Mark Hamill cameo) in order to get a little information and a little backup when it comes to this powerful creature. As it turns out, Jay was able to provide both to Barry with no problem. He shed plenty of light on Savitar's history, specifically that he was one of the first speedsters to ever exist and that he saw Barry as a threat and felt the need to challenge him in every way possible and Jay's arrival could not come at a better time since shortly after learning all this, Savitar made his move to convert the last of the Metas, leading to a brutal but brief battle that saw Julian captured and Savitar banished for the moment and now was a fine opportunity for Barry to interrogate his former partner at the CCPD, allowing for us to learn even more about the mysterious Speed God. We came to find out that he is tied to the stone he uses to change humans into metas, that he loves to prey upon fear and pain, using it to twist humans to do his bidding, and he was also happy to provide the team with a dark vision of the future filled with betrayal and death. It led to Barry getting a little more help from Jay and Wally to open up a rift to the Speed Force, so that Barry could toss the stone (and Savitar) into what was in essence the eternal void of space and time and while his plan was a success, an unexpected pit stop into the future gave Barry the most chilling vision of all...his future self five months from now, begging for Savitar to spare Iris' life...something the Speed God refused to do, killing the woman Barry loves. It was a vision that left Barry beyond rattled and he had to be reminded by Jay that the future has yet to be written and while this episode ends on quite the happy holiday note, let's be honest...this was also quite the dark and foreboding episode because regardless of the fact that the future is yet to be written, no doubt Savitar is going to do his damndest to make that sure that he leads Barry down a path where Iris dies and he suffers meaning that Barry is going to be in for one his greatest challenges yet, facing his flaws when the show returns in January. Until next time.

Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...Thus far, the third season of The Librarians has provided us with much darker fare storytelilng wise since our intrepid heroes are taking part in an ultimate battle between good and evil that will no doubt get worse before it gets better. But while this season's push for a grittier storyline has challenged the audience and the show for the better, this is a series that never strays too far from its roots. Because Sunday night's episode, 'And the Reunion of Evil' was a pure throwback if you will, bringing back the action, adventure and outright comedy that we all came to love and enjoy in the dynamic first season of the show as Cassandra and Jake found thsemelves in an ice cave in Sweden in an effort to pick up the slack left by Flynn's departure and get their hands on an ancient crystal to safely house in the library. There was of course, a catch to this, since the crystal was buried deep within the ice, forcing the duo to figure out how to free it...but before they could solve that problem they had to deal with the fact that they were not alone and as Jake battled the intruder and chased him off, Cassandra made an executive decision to use a little magic to get the artifact out...with mixed results. Sure, she freed the artifact from the ice, but it promptly found a new home inside her chest. That meant it was time to return to the Library to figure out how to remove it but a blizzard made life difficult for the duo, at least until they stumbled upon a cabin in the middle of the snowy mess, one that they didn't recall seeing there in the first place and that's when things got really interesting. Because magic helped conjour this cabin and poor Cassandra and Jake found themselves in the midst of a Frost Giant Jamboree, where the legendary monsters planned to share in the power of the crystal, and well...this plot line ended up being outright hilarious on so many levels. For starters, how can you not get a chuckle and a smile from ancient monsters setting up a reunion, and more or less adopting human traditions in an attempt stay peaceful? But the laughs didn't end there. This was an episode that allowed for Christian Kane and Lindy Booth to show off their comedic chops since Jake was forced to blend in at the Frost Giant Convention, using every ounce of his bravado to adopt an alter ego and keep he and Cassandra out of the storm and well...his efforts paid off in spades. He was the life of the party, and his over the top comedy was nicely balanced by Cassandra's wild evening where she made best friends with a different Frost Giant, one that had machinations to romance Jake and her interactions with this monster in disguise made for the funniest moments of the night as poor Cass tried her best to not let the panic of the moment overtake her. Of course when all is said and done, Cass and Jake find their way out of this mess with a little help from Jenkins and the gang, but man what a wild ride. In fact, it was downright refreshing to see the show balance out the storylines this year by giving us a little break from the Apep mess and the throwback stuff didn't end with the comedy. The team found a way to work together to get everything and anything done and there were lessons to be learned as well since Ezekiel's story was a fine example of how sometimes we have to trust in someone's talents, regardless of how we believe they should utilize them and the importance of listening to our friends was an important theme as well, since had Cassandra taken Jake's advice about not using magic to complete her goals, this whole mess could have been avoided. Either way, it was great to get back to the core staple of fun on this show, and we should enjoy it while it lasts since it's only a matter of time before Apep returns and the war continues...until next time... The Man in Black is waiting for her and now he is looking for answers of his own. Seeing that there is something special with this host, he can only hope that she knows the secrets about the maze and what it should mean to him. But Dolores is running on memories only and her time is short when she is not able to explain to the Man in Black what it all means. Maeve has found her way down to the repair center once again, but this time she has company. With Hector and Armistice by her side, a few hosts will be able to provide the distraction that she needs to escape the park. Bypassing their protocols, the two start back up with what they are good at, killing. Making their way down to the storage facility and getting Bernard back on his feet, Maeve finds out that she has been programmed to want to escape. Not believing that it is a program, that she is doing this of her own volition, Maeve continues with her plan and with everything that she needs to escape but a wrinkle comes into play when the alarms are set off after the security team sees that the hosts are out of control. Keeping her friendly tech Felix with her, Maeve is able to move throughout the facility and her enforcers take care of business when they are called upon. A bloody exit from the park is the only way out, but will she be able to make it all the way to the real world when her memories are telling her to do something different. Picking up Logan and showing him that he knows how to play the game, William is on the hunt for Dolores and is not liking what he is hearing. Needing help in his search, William is able to locate his old friend Lawrence and get him to join in on the hunt. Finding another military regiment, the men talk about passing the young woman around and this is something that William cannot accept. Killing everyone in his path, William takes Logan to the edge of the park to see what the end game is. Knowing that he is in position to make a difference after he gets married, William sees a future in the park and there is nothing that his soon to be brother in law will be able to do to stop it. Heading back to town, William spots Dolores in a familiar scene and with no memories about what they had just been through, he sees that the park has only one purpose, to show people what they are capable of. Now in the middle of the maze, William has found his early love once again and sees that there is something special about her as her memories are coming back and she has been waiting for him for all this time. Charlotte is finally getting to apply the pressure to Dr. Ford and with the backing from the rest of the board, it is time for the old man to step aside. With so much joy delivering the news to Ford, Ms. Hale has no idea what the old genius is planning for his new narrative, nor does she realize that he will still have time to release it. Seeing a sad love story come to an end, Charlotte is ready to turn the reins over to Lee so he can make the simple changes to the park that have been needed for some time. Knowing that everything is now at his fingertips, Lee is ready to rewrite the narrative, but his extra hosts are nowhere to be found in the storage facility as they have been programmed for something much different. Not being able to distinguish between reality and dreams, Dolores has taken a trip back to her old stomping ground and is remembering her time with Arnold. Reaching the end of the maze, she is still not ready for the world yet, but acts as if she has a conscience and Arnold will try anything to push back the opening of the park. Giving Dolores a way to scare everybody into believing that the park is dangerous, she kills everyone in town, including her creator. Seeing Arnold again in the form of Bernard, she is confused, yet knows that she will have to carry out the same sort of assignment again. Knowing that she only has to look within herself to see what she is supposed to be, Dolores has her finger on the trigger and being the oldest surviving host in the park, she may be able to develop a following that nobody sees coming. Knowing that the board wants him out is not making Dr. Ford worry at all, in fact he is ready to show them his stroke of genius at the narrative reveal this evening. But knowing that everyone is not happy about what he has been doing, he stops and talks with William about what the maze was really for and although the Man in Black is not happy with the results, there is nothing he can do about it. Finding out that he will retire after his massive reveal, Ford has something special for everyone in attendance and while a couple of his hosts are running amuck in the facility, there are plenty more that are not accounted for. Seeing that Bernard has been reactivated and Dolores is no longer looking for answers, Ford is ready to unleash the biggest surprise in the park's history. But there will be no applause for this great man and his next effort as he has unleashed a hell that nobody can escape. Talk about a surprise for the season finale, I did not see this coming, but we finally got some answers about what is happening in the park, for a minute anyways. William is the Man in Black and his company owns a majority of the park. The memory driven storyline for the hosts makes it impossible for them to know what is real and what is a memory, so they can move alone and think that there are other people accompanying them. Even though Maeve may be programmed to escape and she knows that her world is not real, she still wants to protect her daughter from a past life and Bernard/Arnold will always have a place in the park, no matter what happens to the guests that love the park so much. The multiple timelines theory in this story has been confirmed, yet we don’t know when all of them take place exactly. I'm not a huge fan of this kind of storytelling, but overall the series did a great job in clueing you in with their devices. There is more to the park as we find out during Maeve’s escape, as we see Samurai hosts training in a different part of the facility, and I cannot wait to see if we get to find out what they can do. Westworld has had hell released in it, the new narrative promises death and destruction and, well, no restraints so now the guests can be killed just like the hosts. When next season comes along, it will be very interesting to see how the path of the new story goes, because with all of the killing, could there even be a park to go back to? And there are still protocols in place to keep the hosts trapped in the park, so if they tried to escape, would they be able to? These are all new questions that will need to be answered and there is a new narrative that we will need to keep an eye on, but it will be a while before that happens, so now I need to try and find another show this good to keep me occupied. Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...Sometimes you sit down to watch your favorite television show and find yourself completely and utterly stunned as the end credits roll when a particular episode manages to blindside you with its incredible quality, and that's precisely the experience I went through last night when it comes to Blunt Talk. Because just when I thought the show had achieved perfection when it comes to its particular style of storytelling, 'Walter Has to Look After Walter' completely upped the ante, providing us with plenty of laughs like always, but this time around this episode enhanced the comedy further by delvering some incredibly cerebral themes and concepts that took us deep into Walter's mind and forced several characters to mature on the fly. Case in point...Martin's story. We've spent a vast majority of the season watching Martin do his best to find true happiness and personal fulfillment all by way of his love life. He's become close with Rosalie 2, he rekindled his romance with Rosalie Prime and well, because of that...he's acheived all of his current life goals. He got the girls, he's excelling at work...and that's prescisely why the show did what it does best, giving us a tiny slice of the real world and reminding all of us that life is going to throw you one wild curve ball from time to time since Rosalie 2 had some concerns that she might be pregnant and in one rip roaringly hilarious scene, we came to discover that she is indeed carrying Martin's child and well...he's simply beside himself at this point as he tries to figure out what to do with his perfect little world now that nothing is going as planned and it would seem this is a brewing plot point that the show will revisit a little later on... But the show wasn't quite done yet with its maturity upgrade to the season's outstanding storylines. The long reaching arc about love and what it does to us took quite the turn when it came to Jim and Celia because...at long last these two love birds have figured out a balance. They are fully aware that they are somewhat shattered individuals who don't quite know how to love in the traditional sense, but they have found a way to make it work, and that's a huge deal. To see compromise and baby steps so that these two can heal on the fly and enjoy a healthy relationship so that eventually they can take whatever steps in life together they so choose is perhaps one of the most beautiful notions that Blunt Talk has ever put forth and I applaud the show for providing such a hopeful notion of love when traditionally it is presented on screen as a difficult venture that requires nothing less than grand sacrifice and sorrow and their balance was important to highlight...because without it, the biggest storyline of the night would never have worked... That plot thread of course belongs to Walter and this episode was a good opportunity to see exactly what our intrepid host has been up to since his suspension and well, it's business as usual. Walter is still conducting his own investigation on Rudolph Global, and is still desperate to get back on the air, going so far as to fly himself to New York to ask Bronson at UBS Headquarters to show him mercy...only to find himself berated and challenged by the head of the Network for being nothing less than a hypocrite and a shill and well, this scene was outright heartbreaking. In many ways yes, Walter has done plenty to show that he doesn't exactly care about much outside of himself, but that's the beauty of his journey...he is trying his damndest to change. Rudolph Global and the mess they're creating looms large in Walter's mind as his last good chance to contribute something special to this world, to change the perception of the man he is so that he can leave a meaningful legacy behind and well, this painful slap in the face from Bronson is allowing for the story to go into new and uncharted territory thematically, where Walter's journey begs the question...how far should one go to set things right in their life, and oddly enough the answer to that question, at least as far as Walter is concerned...is to take it as far as one can and that's where Jim and Celia come back into play. Because Jim received a text message from Evelyn, and she was hoping that Jim would escort her to the annual Rudolph Surrealist Party, giving Walter a shot at stepping into the lion's den with a hidden camera and since Celia was fine with Jim taking another gigalo gig, Walter took full advantage of the opportunity, giving us one wonderfully hilarious sequence where Walter and Harry dressed in drag to sneak into the party to slip past Margaret Rudolph and guess what? The plan worked. Harry and Walter were able to get full access to the place and after all this time, Walter was able to finally to meet the mysterious Daniel Rudolph. But alas, the meeting was more or less unproductive because Daniel is nothing more than a pawn and a buffoon since we quickly learned that Margaret is the brains behind everything and considering that she trained a gun at Walter's head...she's clearly had enough of his quest to make the world a better place and just like that, we are left with our first true cliffhanger for the series and holy cow...it's a good one. Walter's hunt for the biggest story of his career has left him in quite the precarious position and I truly cannot wait to see where this picks up next week for the season two finale. Either way, what an absolutely stunning episode. It's one thing to design a story around the characters to have something dynamic to say, but it is quite another thing to let them live freely in their world and be challenged in new and exciting ways and it's just more proof that Blunt Talk is the finest television show out there and it's a shame that the season has to come to an end, but at least know we're in for one hell of a story before we say our temporary goodbyes...until then. Written by Scott EdwardsNo matter how much I complain about reality television, I continue to get pulled back in, but if these programs are on the Discovery Channel, I really don’t think that I am falling in with the rest of the pack because it is supposed to be teaching me stuff right? After the loss of Mythbusters and Dirty Jobs, I never thought I would get back into what Discovery was offering, but it turns out that I was wrong. Once a year checking out Shark Week seemed like the only thing that I would be watching, but I always find myself wanting to keep up with Gold Rush, because I never know what is going to happen when it comes to this show. Following the Hoffman's pursuit of gold over the years has been so exciting, yet so depressing, I cannot look away. It seems like the show was designed around this crew, and while I am pulling for them to make their payday, which I only think has happened once, I hate myself for laughing when things go wrong, because it seems to happen more often than not. With a tighter crew and Dave Turin also helping to call the shots, I have high hopes that things will be better every year and it looks like at least for this season, they may have found just a little bit of pay dirt that might make them some money. Watching as Parker Schnabel has grown up over the years, I am just waiting for him to break out and beat everyone in the Klondike with the most gold ever. I would love to see more young people with this kind of drive, especially when it comes to making the right decisions at a young age. Changing up his crew to folks that are not all twice his age has been good for him, since most of the older miners do not take well to having a kid yell at them to work harder, especially if they are not bringing in the gold. I cannot wait to see what lies ahead for Parker and his team and if they are able to make the crazy gold quota that they have set for the season. Then there is the Beets family that I wish I was a part of. Resurrecting a mining dredge last season, and being able to use it for this one, it is just fascinating that older pieces of mining equipment can still work so efficiently. With a minimal crew running the dredge, they seem to know what needs to be done and have a way to keep everyone from killing each other. This is the crew that seems to have the most success every year and watching as the family pulls together when needed is kind of refreshing with all of the stress that they put each other through (actually, it's mostly Tony stressing everyone else out). And thank goodness for subtitles when it comes to Tony talking, because I cannot understand most of what he says beneath his great beard, but the man truly has a nose for the gold. This has become a staple on my viewing list and while I don’t usually catch the show when it airs, thank goodness for On-Demand so I can watch it at my leisure. I find myself pulling for all of the groups to find gold and make their goals, because it is always great to see people succeed in something that they love, but sometimes I also find myself pulling to see something go wrong, because let’s be honest, you can never pull your eyes away from a train wreck, no matter how bad it seems. I don’t know what is about this show, but it is really fun to watch, whether you have a vested interest in it or not. I like to have it on in the background sometimes, just so I know who is making their goals and who is not and I love the extreme beeping that comes into play when the Beets family is on the screen, because it does not matter what you say, it only matters what you do to get the F#$%&%G gold and nothing else.
It's no secret that we are huge fans of the hilarious comedy 'Blunt Talk' and in anticpation of Sunday's brand new episode, Starz was gracious enough to provide us with an exclusive sneak peek of Episode 209: 'Walter Has to Look After Walter'. So please enjoy this side splitting clip and make sure you tune in Sunday night to join Walter Blunt in another hilarious adventure, and as an added bonus here's a quick synopsis of what to expect!
As Martin and Rosalie grapple with life-changing news, Walter, Harry, Celia and Jim attend a surrealist ball thrown by the nefarious Rudolphs, hoping to finally obtain a confession. Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...I think it's safe to say that this year's superhero crossover event on the CW, was nothing short of a rousing success and the best one they've put together to date. After all, this was four nights of pure geek heaven with action and adventure, touching moments and enthralling storylines and the crown jewel of this event was last night's grand finale. Because this episode of Legends of Tomorrow is the one that put the 'Invasion!' front and center as the Dominators made their move, and in the process we were able to learn everything about their nefarious plans, but in order to get all the details on what these sneaky aliens were up to, our intrepid heroes, fresh off of their escape from the mothership, decided an eye for an eye was appropriate here and it was high time to kidnap and interrogate a Dominator to uncover their plans and the easiest way to accomplish such a feat...was to go back in time to when they last appeared on earth in 1951. Mick brought Cisco and Felicity along for the ride and it's a good thing he did since Heat Wave, his crew and the alien they managed to knock out were captured by the U.S. Government. That meant it was up to Cisco and Felicity to save the day and not only did they deliver, getting everyone out of the secret government bunker, they were able to have a quick word with the captive Dominator and learn that these visitors had grave concerns about the Meta Humans suddenly appearing on earth. But with Army reinforcements on the way, Cisco made the call to cut their chat short and let the alien go and help him return to his ship as an act of good faith and upon returning to 2016...well Cisco quickly learned that his decision meant nothing. Because in an effort to try and hammer out a truce, Cisco vibed to that alien's exact location to use his act of kindness as a bargaining chip, only to learn that he in essence screwed with the timeline without giving it any thought, along with the fact that there would be no peace or deal with the Dominators and their ultimate plan was to rid our world of meta humans with a specially designed bomb. But why did the Dominators have such hatred toward earth's Meta Humans? Well the answer to that arrived while Cisco tried to broker a deal because the government agent that Mick ran into in 1951, summoned Barry and the remaining heroes to inform them that Barry's decision to mess with the timeline made the Dominators consider all Meta Humans to be a dangerous threat. But there was a way out of this mess...if Barry surrendered himself, the aliens would leave earth alone. Of course the always good hearted Barry planned to give in to their demands but his friends wouldn't let that happen. Mistakes or no, he inspired this rag tag team of heroes to do something special and everyone united together in a grand plan to stop the bomb and drive out the Dominators and in a stunning sequence filled to the brim with thrills and chills...earth's heroes saved the day. These CW's superhero shows however, are big on heart and while that took a backburner to the action and adventure, there were a few gentle moments to be found as well. Professor Stein found a way to love and protect a daughter he never knew existed and Cisco finally made peace with his anger when it comes to Barry and when all is said and done, I am still in awe of this episode. There was no deeper meaning to be found here and there didn't need to be, this story was about bringing us an hour of fun and it delivered on that front and to top if off...they found a handy way to keep Supergirl in the mix for future crossovers and on a quick side note, kudos to the writers for that sneaky and hilarious Brandon Routh/Superman Returns joke at the end there. Either way, I'm actually sad this crossover event is over. It was such a blast to watch and it has opened my eyes up to some new shows since clearly I need to give Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow another glance to pass the time until next year's crossover comes along. Until then. Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...You know that a television show is doing a fine job of connecting you to the characters, the instant you feel anything for them and when it comes to Designated Survivor that moment of emotional connection has arrived because after seven week of crisis after crisis, I have to admit that I outright feel bad for President Tom Kirkman. I mean come on, the poor guy simply cannot get a break. For every step forward he takes, he seems to take five back and this week's episode was no exception to that rule because 'The Results' was another tough day at the office for the new President of the United States, but more importantly it was also an episode that more or less opened the floodgates for the conspiracy that's been brewing behind the scenes, giving us some chilling insight as to how deep this whole mess goes while posing some new questions. But before we get too far into that, let's take a moment and discuss the tough night that Kirkman had to deal with. If anything this episode should have been a celebratory one for the President since the Election was right around the corner, and his vision of seeing a new and functioning Government was about to come to fruition...and then came the first bombshell of the night, poll workers in Kansas were coming down ill thanks to a bio terrorism attack, prompting a grand discussion amongst Kirkman and his inner circle...do they cancel the elections or push forward? Kirkman's first instinct was to shut the whole thing down until his Administration could determine that it would be a safe event for all Americans, but a few inspiring words from the daughter of one of the victims of this bio terror attack...reminded him to be vigilant and brave, forcing Kirkman to change his mind and allow the election to continue and the people of the United States were inspired to come out and vote, despite any hint of danger because their President went to the polls and took part in his civic duty. But while that storyline eventually ended on a happy note...there is still the conspiracy to deal with and holy cow, the people behind the scenes of this mess are ruthless to say the least. They not only kept Jason's son from him to force him to do their bidding, but the price they asked him to pay ransom wise for his child, was incredibly high. The mystery woman in black asked the Deputy Director of the FBI to confess to the murder of Majid Nassar, resulting in his subsequent arrest and the sheer power this mystery lady exhibits was enough to keep Hannah silent as well and to top it all off, we came to learn that Congressman MacLeish, is nothing more than a pawn. Yes, the man we thought might be the mastermind behind the attack is nothing more than a humble servant of the real brains of this operation...and who that is exactly, has yet to be seen... Either way, holy cow...that little revelation about MacLeish and his role in this mess means that whomever is behind this whole attack has their eyes on the Presidency and they clearly have their own plan for the United States of America and they are truly willing to do whatever it takes to execute that agenda. It changes so much for the show because in many ways now, Kirkman is extremely vulnerable in his new role since he's learning on the job and dealing with one crisis after another, meaning that there's no time for him to watch his back; and considering how many people may be in on this mess, there's little chance of him getting any kind of red flags when it comes to that kind of danger. In the end, this is a flat out game changer of an episode for the show and since these mystery folks are coming out of the wood work, it most likely means they are accelerating the time table for their plan and I'm extremely curious to see what their next move will be. Until next time. Written by John Edward BetancourtTHIS IS THE EMERGENCY SPOILER ALERT SYSTEM...YOU ARE ADVISED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK...When it comes to the CW's Arrow, I do have a confession to make...it's one of the few comic book shows out there that I rarely watch. It's not because the show is awful, it's simply a matter of finding the time along with the sheer fact that if I dove in now...I'd be overwhelmed with the story thanks to my lack of knowledge of the prior four seasons of the show. But after settling in to watch the series to continue the thrilling 'Invasion!' storyline working its way through this year's crossover event...maybe it's time I sit down and binge four or five seasons of the show and catch up on all things Arrow because last night's 100th episode was a clear indication that this series is one filled to the brim with a rich tapestry of a story to tell, one wrought with anguish and pain and a hero that is wiling to make incredible sacrifices to keep his world safe and I was able to learn all of this, from a simple tale that answered a question we all love to ask ourselves...what if? Because this episode was able to build an entire story around the powerful conversation that Oliver had with Barry the other night on The Flash, where the Green Arrow let his good friend know that he would give anything to go back in time and change the past for a shot to spend just a little more time with those he has loved and lost and well...the Dominators decided to grant him that wish. Because shortly after seeing some of his friends pulled up into the sky, Oliver opened his eyes to find himself home...with a few changes of course. This time around mom and dad were there to celebrate his upcoming marriage to Laurel and discuss his future as the head of Queen Consildated and well...let's be honest, this was a pretty sweet life to live. Because in essence, all of Oliver's dreams came true. He now had a stable and happy family life, a love that would no doubt last him a lifetime and a job that offered financial security, so what more could the man want? But something about this life...didn't quite seem natural and moment by moment, Oliver and the others that were kidnapped with him, began to see flashes of a different life...one filled with pain, one filled with challenges and one where they did nothing but give their all to make the world a better place and that life, that reality, called to all of them prompting Oliver to open everyone's eyes so they could fight back and return to a world that needed them and just how important the real world is to Oliver and his friends was demonstrated the instant they emerged from their slumber...and went right back to work, fighting the Dominators to save as many lives as possible. Yet, despite the fact that this episode went light on the crossover fun, giving us but a few moments of awesome with Flash and Supergirl, and the fact it really didn't give us any solid answers on the Dominators reasons for coming to earth...outside of them developing a super weapon; this was actually one awesome episode. It was a bold stroke of storytelling to slow down this crossover event and give us such an intimate story, one filled to the brim with feels for that matter, in fact the final moment before Oliver returns to reality, where he sees those he has lost over the years one last time was an outright tear jerker. Either way, it's convinced me to find some time in my crazy television schedule to catch up on Arrow at some point and the lack of intel on the Dominators, has me curious to see if everything will be revealed on Legends of Tomorrow, as we wrap up this incredible crossover event. |
