Written by ScottyThere are always times when you neglect to tell someone something about yourself that is known to very few. It may be because you do not know them well enough, or you are afraid of what they might think of your past. Keeping a secret from somebody might seem like a good idea at the time, but in the long run, they will probably end up disliking not knowing everything about you. Being upfront about who you are and what you do could be a good way of living your life, but if you are hiding from something in your past, you may want to pick and choose who the lucky ones are who get to know who you are or were. Josh McManus is just trying to make a living on the road and regrets not being there for his family when times get tough. Right now, the times are extremely tough as the world is starting to fall into chaos around him. While talking with his wife on his phone, Josh is rear ended by a couple of rednecks that are looking for an easy score. Knowing he can take care of the situation on his own, and seeing the knife in one of the redneck’s hand, he tries to settle himself down, but there is someone else on the road as well. The Renegades pull up on their motorcycles and make fun of what is happening and the rednecks go their own way so they do not receive the beat down from the biker gang that they have heard so much about. Being a traveling salesman, Josh is trying to make his next sale in a little gun shop and is stumped by the owner Frank’s question of him. Trying to get an insight to the correct answer from young Beth, Frank’s granddaughter, Josh is put into another situation that he cannot walk away from. Three members of the Renegades walk into the shop wanting their money and any automatic weapons that they carry. Jumping into action, Josh kills two of the attackers and leaves the third wounded. When the cleanup crew comes to help their friends, they see that this stranger is much more than a lamb, he is a threat and needs to be dealt with before he becomes too much of a nuisance. After talking to the police, Josh is told to stay in town and since he will not be able to go home for a good meal, Frank invites his new friend over for dinner. Just being somebody that can help, Josh accepts his role and wants to make sure that everyone around him is being taken care of, but he may not be able to protect everyone from the Renegades when they come hunting for him. While at his hotel, Josh tries to help a young woman that is getting beat up by her boyfriend, but when he does not offer money to rectify the situation, he becomes a target once again. Being able to remedy the situation, Josh leaves money on the table after beating the boyfriend down, since it was a lesson that he needed to find out. Not being able to change who he was, Josh has to come to terms with who he still is and when many guests from the hotel disappear into orbs of light, he knows that something greater is watching over his path. This is an interesting opening to the story of Revelation Road and you are given plenty of character development when it comes to the main players. Josh is running from something in his past that he has been trying to forget, but being put in these situations to help others, well, he is heading right back to what he does best. I am partial to young Beth since she has a lot of growing to do, something she realizes after her grandparents are taken by a force she cannot see. The leader of the Renegades, Hawg who is not mentioned in my write up seems to know what is happening all around him and whenever he makes a demand of his gang, lightning strikes. I need to know what happens next since this seems to be the beginning of the rapture and only the evil are left on the Earth, but some of these characters do not seem to be evil and deserve to be saved from their impending doom, and it appears that they have something more to prove. Happy Viewing.
