Written by Scott EdwardsVacations. No matter if they are working ones, or for pleasure, they are just a great way to get away from home and enjoy what other places in the world have to offer. It is even better if you are able to take your family along with you, as you will be able to spend quality time together and hopefully come back stronger than you were when you left. Even though everyone does not get the opportunity to leave the country, or even their state, just leaving home for a couple of days with your family is more than enough to show them that you want them to be able to know that there is more to the world than what they look at daily. Jack Jones has taken his family to Egypt to explore the greatness the past civilization has produced. His daughter Amber is especially happy with the trip as she is a sponge when it comes to learning things and will be quick to point out if something is incorrect or being passed over. After touring the Great Pyramid, Jack and his kids return to the hotel to find their mother waiting for them anxiously. Getting dinner, the group is rocked by an earthquake that will change their time together forever. With some of the ancient structures faring well against the shaking, the modern buildings do not and as they are falling to pieces around the distraught family, Jack finds a survivor that he pulls to safety. Young Tariq is grateful for being saved by the American but is more concerned about what is happening around him. Getting ahold of his father, Tariq finds out that this is not just a normal earthquake, but something that will change the landscape of the area for quite some time. As a tectonic plate has moved out of place, salt water is being poured into the earth’s core, causing steam to rise and bring forth a new ice age for the region. Needing to find a way to escape the impending doom of below freezing temperatures, Jack and his family invite Tariq to come along as they have a plan of survival. But not being able to make it to the airport to leave the area, the group will have to find another way of moving quickly before the temperature falls well below zero, freezing everyone to death. This movie is actually not as bad as everyone wants to make it out to be. I will admit that some of the special effects are pretty shoddy, and some of the images of 'snow cover' are more of a dusting that do not look that dangerous, but the movie is about the story. An ice age is moving into a region that has no way to prepare for it and people have to find safety the old fashioned way, on foot. Looking to escape the trouble of the old kingdom and making it to the Red Sea for safety, much like the film The Ten Commandments; is a key aspect to the story and it would not be as entertaining without it, but there are no stone slabs to be found here and God does not provide any help for the refugees. Happy Viewing.
