Written by ScottyFinding something that you love doing is something that we all strive for. Even if it is not to make a living on, if you are able to do this one thing, your life becomes just that little bit more relaxing and that is something that everyone needs. When you find that one thing, you need to be careful not to overuse it and make sure to keep your eyes open to what is happening, because even though you love it, you still have the risk of it hurting you when you least expect it. Kate Mathieson and her husband Jeff are looking to make a name for themselves in the shark video arena. Kate has always had a gift of swimming with the sharks and not getting hurt, and even with a few close calls, she would not give it up for anything. As her husband Jeff is shooting some unique footage, he loses sight of a shark and when Kate sees where it is going, it is too late and one of her best friends had been attacked. Not ever losing anyone on a diving trip, Kate has taken her friend’s death very hard. Losing a friend, losing her husband and soon to be losing her boat, she is working day to day hosting whale watching excursions. Knowing that his wife is in trouble, Jeff returns home to try and offer an alternative and a job offer that she cannot afford to pass up. With a rich man that is willing to pay $100,000 dollars to swim with a shark on the line, Kate has to make up her mind if she is willing to put her own life or anyone else’s on the line for that much cash. Agreeing to take out her new client, Kate is still not sure that that he will be able to protect himself from the sharks when trying to fulfill his lifelong dream. Dark Tide follows former shark enthusiast Kate Mathieson as she tries to cope with the death of one of her best friends. As a year has gone by, Kate is still working on the water, but is not doing what she what meant to be doing and that is swimming with the sharks and making documentary films. With her current business pushing her deeper into debt, she needs a way to get ahead of the game once again. Her husband Jeff appears at just the right time and brings an offer that she cannot refuse, a rich client wants to swim with sharks and will pay the price of $100,000. Being reluctant to allow the aging man to fulfill his dream, Kate has to decide what is more important to her, the money to save her boat, or the chance of someone else getting killed on her watch. After watching this film, my fear of sharks just gets worse. I don’t see the appeal of wanting to swim with sharks at any point of time and cannot understand why people would want to put themselves in harm’s way. With that being said, you think you know where the movie is going to take you with someone getting attacked while being stupid, but that is not the case as there are several more factors that come into play that will endanger the entire crew. With some stunning underwater footage, it is very apparent that the money was put into the right places when making this movie and I would not ask for any of my time back from watching it. Happy Viewing.
