Written by Scott EdwardsAs global warming starts to take over in the usually cold confines of Antarctica, a cave that has been discovered needs to be investigated. Although the conditions are not optimal to do this, Dr. David Kotzman and his team have been instructed to do so by their benefactor. With the previous team of students being sent home for the season, the established group of scientists are the last chance for any type of analysis before the region freezes over again. However, a massive snow storm hits the area as the investigation is taking place, killing most of the team off. David and longtime friend Hershel have to find a way to survive and find some protection in the cave. While saving their own lives, the two find a body that has been frozen for over ten thousand years along with a cave painting that may date back that long ago as well. Returning to his warm home, David confronts his boss Dr. Veet and is trying to gain a handle on what happened on his expedition. As Miami is going through a strange weather shift, David is faced with a decision on whether to stay with the group that has been paying him for his efforts or to quit his job and do his research on his own dime. Needing to find a reason for the strange shifts and extreme weather events that are taking place, he has to turn to an old friend that deals with geology and find out if there is a shift on the magnetic axis of the planet. As the weather starts to get colder in the usually tropical region of Florida, David and his newly formed team have run the numbers and have found that a polar shift is about to take place, but over not a period of several years, but within hours instead. Trying to save everyone he can, David pleads his case to a senator with his young team, but does not get the time of day until a huge snow storm blows into Miami beach causing havoc. The storms are to produce a cold front that no one living has ever witnessed, making the temperature negative 273 degrees or...Absolute Zero. Absolute Zero follows Dr. David Kotzman as he tries to continue to be the leader in his field and make sure he contributes to the grants for his company. Wanting to get answers from his employer Dr. Veet, David is shut out of what is really happening as the magnetic poles are starting to shift causing catastrophic weather events. Without getting the help he needs to prove this theory, David turns back to his old friend and geologist Jeff Miller to try to exact a theory and timeframe of the events. Teaming up with a couple of Jeff’s students, along with his wife and daughter, David looks for a way to protect the group from freezing to death as the earth realigns. Just a fun disaster movie that plays on the fear of being left in the dark. Not everybody has the knowledge or the means to find out what is happening at all times and so having to find the people that can help you survive is a key factor. As David has to put his faith into people he does not know, he is plesantly surprised by the results. It goes to show that in a time of crisis, depending on others may not be the worst thing you could do. Keep warm and remember to watch your compass to make sure that magnetic north is where it is supposed to be. Happy viewing.
