Whenever bad times happen in our lives or happen to others, and we wish to understand what went wrong… we hyper focus on what we hope is the singular moment where everything began to go south. For we firmly believe that one moment in time can change our fortunes and if we can figure out what that looks like, we can step away from a similar moment if it ever appears again and enjoy a better path the second time around. But the fact of the matter is, that is an incorrect way to approach the analysis of dark times in a person’s life. Because not every bad situation in life is caused by a singular moment. Instead, they come to life by way of a series of bad moments and decisions, and that’s what we should be focused upon to properly understand what went wrong. If anything, this particularly more thoughtful way of approaching an analysis of bad times is relevant to our discussion today, because it was put on full display in the next episode of The Wilds on Prime Video. For after two seasons of speculation regarding how the Dawn of Eve and Twilight of Adam programs collapsed into utter chaos, we finally garnered some insight upon that in ‘Day 50/33’ and yes, as it turns out… there was no one singular moment to make that happen. It was in essence, a group effort to begin the downward spiral in question and even then, the collapse we’ve known is coming… didn’t just rapidly happen. But the beginning of the end was upon us in this tale and for the boys… that involved Seth and toxic masculinity. For the entire camp was on edge in general and some were indulging in supremely dark behaviors and the split regarding those ugly behaviors… led to an in for Seth. One where he could potentially bring everyone back together and look the hero. But since Seth doesn’t understand how to properly apologize to people or that some acts cannot be forgiven… he failed at this venture and found himself embarrassed and dejected and broken and he of course… let all the ugly loose within the camp. Making it clear that the boys were lost now and angry at one another and ready to battle, leaving chaos on the horizon for them. As for the girls, well… the situation with Martha led to an overall failure of the group. Because after moving her (and nearly losing her in the process) to the hot springs to try and keep her healthy and well… alive… since she was still in a catatonic state, the hopelessness of the situation set in. To the point where panic and fear and anger took hold and fights broke out, ugly things were said, and everyone began to drift apart at a time when unity was needed. Making it clear that this wilderness and the pressures of it were more than the girls could handle, and now it would seem that it is only a matter of time before the dark place they’re all residing within will require intervention and salvation and well, all of these elements made this quite the bleak tale in the end. Because we were privy to a host of uncomfortable and ugly moments, the kind that spoke to how the wild has broken these two groups down and brought the worst out of them and to top it all off… we still have more difficult moments ahead of us. Because there’s no way things brighten up from here, not with how low everyone has sunk and really… the only questions that hang over this tale, is whether or not we will be privy to moments that will sink our spirits in the process by way of a raw examination of the true collapse of the human psyche in the season two finale. Or if a perfect combination of present and future coming together, will spare us of a stunningly bleak closing chapter and well… the only way to answer those queries is to continue the journey and see how this harrowing season comes to a close. Until next time.
