Fear is a concept/emotion… that we tend to look negatively upon, and it makes sense as to why. After all, fear is something… that tends to motivate us to take part in silly actions, that embarrass us, or it inspires rash and stupid decisions and tends to keep us from the things we really want in life. Not to mention, fear is something we collectively see… as a weakness really. As though acknowledging it and embracing its power makes a person less than others. But in the end, fear isn’t something we should look negatively upon. We should acknowledge it as part of the human experience. Because it is, and it isn’t going away, and believe or it not… it can have its benefits. Because fear… can be a great motivator of sorts. For the fear of being alone can push us out of our comfort zone to find that special someone. Not to mention, the fear of not accomplishing our goals or getting what we want out of life, can push us to accomplish wonders. If anything, the benefits of fear are top of mind today, simply because Elena indulged in those positives during last night’s episode of The Watchful Eye on Freeform. A feat made possible in ‘The Nanny Who Knew Too Much’, by way of ghosts. Because Elena’s dreams were intense early on in this tale and featured the possible spirit she encountered and that… made her completely and utterly afraid. Afraid that the pressures of this job were wearing upon her mental health and that it would break her before she had the chance to complete her important mission. Not to mention, her mother was suddenly encroaching upon her life again and making threats, and that too added fear to her soul. Because she did not want her mother around her in any capacity and well… that level of fear, motivated Elena like never before, to find the ruby and get out of this place as quickly as possible. Which pushed her to pay close attention to every last opportunity that presented itself to get into Tory’s office. For she firmly believed that was where either the ruby was hiding or that’s where she would find information regarding its whereabouts, and for her efforts… opportunity came knocking. For Tory and Dick were heading out of town, and a quiet evening at the household with just Darcy and Elliot, would have given Elena all the time she needed to get what she wanted. But alas, Bennet’s desire to have a party instead and Ginny’s desire to help expunge Elena’s room of spirits… made for a grand delay in the plan. The kind that forced Elena to once again be mindful and look for the right opportunity to dive in and search and thankfully… Tory’s return afforded her that opportunity. Since Elena used her friends and the reality that the clock was ticking on mom and dad’s return, to get into that office and finally find some clues regarding the ruby and even that, didn’t quite go as planned. For while it led to the discovery of a key and some fascinating letters about the building’s past… there was still no ruby to be found. Instead, all her machinations informed her of, was that the Winthrop family still lived in the building and well… that could bring forth some answers and resolution after all. But while this episode didn’t provide Elena with exactly what she wanted; it did provide her with incredible growth that came forth out of fear. Because without those scares and worries, she might not have put the pedal to the metal in this particular tale and worked hard to move her quest forward. Which does in fact, inform us of the power of fear and how it can be helpful since she is inching closer to her goals and thinking outside the box in doing so. And now that Elena has a new direction in mind regarding her goals… it will be interesting to see how she uses her newfound confidence and sense of urgency, to approach the Winthrop/Chan family line… to find the treasure she seeks. Until next time.
