One thing that fans of The Suspect on Sundance Now can all agree upon, is that this series has done a phenomenal job of keeping us guessing. For we simply don’t know if Dr. Joe O’Loughlin snapped and committed the ultimate crime because of the pressure he’s been under, and his mental standing. Or if his best friend of forever framed him in an effort to take control over Joe’s life and family since it was obvious at the end of the last episode that Gerald ‘Jack’ Owens had a thing for Joe’s wife, Julianne. But since the show has done such a wonderful job with surprises such as that and through instilling doubt in our minds regarding Joe’s sanity and stability… we simply do not know. But at long last, it would seem, the truth is coming into focus. For the next episode in this series offered up all kinds of new surprises, the kind that might finally be leading us toward who really killed Christine and all it took… was confrontation. For Joe couldn’t let Jack’s actions stand in his own home, and that prompted him to head inside and put his cards on the table. A move that embarrassed Jack and exposed that Joe’s investigation had turned up some facts. Such as how Jack was involved with Christine and pushed her Joe’s way, but not to bring about this level of trouble. In fact, he really didn’t offer a solid answer as to why he did this, but one could easily infer that it was related to trying to break up the marriage to get near Julianne and perhaps have her heart completely at last. But what mattered more is that standing up to Jack, set so much in motion. Because obviously, Joe’s request for Jack to tell the police what he knew… would bring them to his doorstep again and that was unacceptable. Which in turn prompted Joe to head to the countryside and spend time at his parents’ house to recoup and figure out his next moves. Because while it was helpful to teach Jack a lesson in humility, it brought him no closer to the killer that was clearly trying to frame him, in his mind, and spending time at home… led him toward a potential truth. Because his mother informed him that dear Bobby had spent some time at the homestead and learned a lot about Joe and well, that had him questioning so much more regarding his most troublesome patient, and that in turn… prompted him to dig deeper regarding Bobby and it’s a good thing he made that decision. For a visit with Bobby’s dying mother, revealed that there was more to the case than he initially knew. In fact, Bobby might have been caught up in a lie, one that broke him and pushed him down a path of revenge to those who altered his life and that hunch, had a lot of gravity to it. Since a return to his old stomping grounds revealed that Bobby had seen his file and that everyone involved with that case, had faced some kind of strife. In some cases, it appeared quite accidental, in others, supremely coincidental. But one way or another… it was becoming apparent that Bobby had seen every name in that file, including Joe’s. Giving rise to the possibility that this young man, was brilliantly playing everyone at once and committing great crimes in the name of revenge. Which means, it will be a race against time to prove that this is the case. Since Bobby is getting bolder in his actions since he even went after Julianne in this tale and gave her a scare. And of course, the police are closing in on Joe minute by minute and well… that’s one heck of way to set up the finale and one heck of a way to give us some answers. Since it means that Bobby has been the villain all along and unless there is some other massive twist waiting in the wings, it would seem we have our answers and it will be genuinely interesting to see if Joe is able to prove to the world that Bobby Morgan/Moran is a criminal mastermind or if evil is going to take quite the win here and bring down a man that while flawed, doesn’t deserve to be behind bars. Until next time.
