When we last settled in to discuss the wondrous Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, we talked at length about how the show was clearly setting the stage for something grander. After all, the season three premiere was devoid of major villains and Imperial Remnant, outside of a pirate encounter, and it instead focused heavily on Din’s quest to return to Mandalore to bathe in the living waters… and find redemption. Setting the stage for a grand quest to indeed redeem himself for breaking the old ways and perhaps reconnect with his roots and the world he’s never known. But as it turns out, it would seem there is something far deeper and grander happening in season three beyond that, as evidenced by this week’s episode. For ‘Chapter 18: The Mines of Mandalore’ saw Din and Grogu return to the home world, after a short stop on Tattooine to visit Peli and get their hands on a droid that could help them determine if the plan to bathe in those waters was wise, and the return home… revealed some shocking sights. Such as a once beautiful world… reduced to glass rubble. Since the fusion bombs of the Galactic Empire truly did a number on this once proud world. But… it wasn’t as dead or as cursed as some have stated in this universe. Since the air was breathable and there were lifeforms to be found. Hostile ones of course, the kind that prompted a difficult battle for Din since these beings were quite strong and what else remained on this world, also led to terrifying trouble for our favorite Mandalorian. Simply because in the depths of this world, strange cybernetic beings ruled the day. The kind that quickly caught Din and were apparently ready to drain the essence of his flesh. Which meant, that help was needed and that prompted young Grogu to step into action and save the day as only a Force Sensitive being can. Since he was able to use the Force to evade any trouble in the caverns of this world and teach those warrior-esque beings quite the lesson, all in an effort to return to the ship to enlist the help of Bo-Katan. Who shockingly, agreed to save Din and shortly after she was able to put that cybernetic monster down and save Din… did a big moment in his life take place. For Bo led them down to the living waters, where he was able to bathe within them and say the creed. Which basically meant, that Din’s long-standing mission was accomplished, he found redemption at last in the waters in the second episode of the season no less. And that is when this episode made it clear that perhaps something bigger was at play here with the story. Simply because… while Din was earning his redemption, something massive pulled him under the water. To the point where Bo was forced to submerge and find him and when she did, she came face to face with a massive monster, one that acknowledged her presence but let her be. But that creature was likely a Mythosaur, and the reality that a living legend might be in these waters… could lead to so much more from a redemption standpoint. For Bo-Katan and what is left of this once proud race. For to know that the legends are true… would bring so many of them home. Not to mention… if one were to conquer the beast… and bring the legend back to life… a rallying cry for a broken world would be heard as far as Coruscant. So, this reveal may well be the beginning of something huge for Mandalore and its people, and who knows what impact this will have on Bo-Katan and her beliefs regarding this world and its rich history and legends, and well, all of these elements made this… quite the amazing story. One that dug deep into the myths and legends of the Star Wars Universe, which we all love, and of course… featured action and adventure and some epic moments with Grogu. But above all, it just plain told an amazing story and that’s what we tune in for, and now that this chapter has come to a close, it will be quite amazing to see what will come forth from this incredible discovery. Until next time.
