If there is one particularly wonderful lesson that we can take away from the dystopian nightmare that is Silo on Apple TV+, it would have to be… that the human spirit cannot and will not ever be diminished. Which is indeed uplifting since it means that even in our darkest hour, such as say, being buried beneath the Earth under the rule of an oppressive regime that has removed the majesty of humanity… it will still exist, and it will still persist, and we’ve seen that play out over the past few weeks on the show. Since there are people in this world, eager to learn and eager to be curious and of course, there are some who will do whatever it takes to bring the truth and justice to light. If anything, that latter aspect of the human spirit/condition is top of mind today since it once again was put on display in this next episode of this series. For ‘The Relic’ saw Sheriff Juliette Nichols, push to finally uncover the truth about George’s death and potentially uncover why those in charge of the Silo were so eager to keep the truth about humanity’s past and the relics a secret and well… her plan to plant a relic in Trumbull’s apartment, paid off in spades. Because it allowed for her to get face time with Judge Meadows and point out that this was a serious ‘offense’ that warranted an investigation regarding the origin of this relic to ensure that no chaos or curiosity would come to the Silo. A move that used the edict of the Pact against those who yielded it and her wish was granted. For both Meadows and Sims saw this investigation as the right play, and perfectly timed as well, since Forgiveness Day was upon the Silo and well… minus a few roadblocks, this plan went well. The roadblocks of course, are of note since they challenged Juliette’s spirit. Since few were cooperative on offering up information as to the origins of the relic and how they were being so easily uncovered. In fact, the investigation was mired in so much resistance that for a time, Juliette began to think that this wasn’t worth her while. Especially when a big roadblock came up, one that we will get to in just a moment. Because what mattered more about her journey and the commentary present within it, was that it truly showcased how strong that spirit is and how it cannot be quelled when the cause is just and true, and well… for her dedication to it, Juliette was rewarded with quite the stunning surprise. In that, George’s old girlfriend, Regina, provided her… with the truth about the world.
Such as how what was once above was green and lush and vibrant and that the truth about how the world once was, had been deeply hidden by those in charge of this place, to keep curiosity about the world above away and to maintain that control and well… that discovery brought forth an interesting parallel regarding the human spirit. In that, it is equally as important to highlight the fact that in a situation such as this, the darker side of that spirit… would be as strong as the light side. That means that evil would have no problem imparting its will upon those working hard to break evil’s hold, and that was indeed the case here. Courtesy of Judicial and an unseen force. Since Sims… made a point to dive deep into the relic’s origin and tie it to George.
All so, he could confront Juliette, with Bernard present no less, in a manner that informed everyone he was onto her scheme to bring justice forth by using Trumbull as a patsy. Which made for a scary sequence that could have upended and ended Juliette and all that she was working toward. All because evil was just as determined to have its way and impose its will upon good. But oddly, the holes and possibilities of Juliette’s plan, motivated Bernard to quell their conflict. Simply because he knew a back and forth between good and evil, would sow discontent and end harmony in the Silo. Giving Juliette an important win that won’t last sadly. For we also came to learn that evil’s spirit, works deeply with guile, in order to maintain its grip on what it wants and that is going to create problems down the line for Juliette, now that we know… someone powerful is watching, and that someone… knows that Juliette has discovered the truth about the world. Which made… for a stunning end to an amazing story. One that really did explore the sheer raw power of the human spirit, both good and bad, and its persistence regardless of circumstances, and that in turn… brought forth an engaging tale. That challenged Juliette like never before and allowed for her to become more than just a broken lover wanting justice, but a real champion of truth and justice, a Sheriff as honest and as honorable as Holston if you will and well… she now has her work cut out for her in keeping the people safe and in helping them learn the truth. For clearly, Sims is gunning for her, and someone powerful knows what she knows and that should lead to a powerhouse race to the season one finale, one where hopefully truth wins the day, and the darkness of the Silo can be lifted. Until next time.
