Caution: This article contains spoilers for the Season Three Premiere of ‘Resident Alien’.
When we last settled in to enjoy the wondrous SYFY series, Resident Alien, our dear alien boy Harry was at quite the crossroads. One where he was basically recruited to work with the mysterious but intense General McCallister to help all of humanity stop the threat that was the coming Earth’s way. For the Greys harbor nefarious plans, and who better to help save the world from whatever threats they have planned, than the interstellar villain turned hero that walks among us? Leaving all of us wonder, what Harry’s efforts would bring forth for the future of humanity, a question… that the season three premiere was quick to answer. For ‘Lone Wolf’ let us know… that well… not much would come out of this collaboration. Because Harry, was in nothing short of a rut really. For he had joined the interstellar rat race, complete with suit and tie and coffee and monotony. To the point where he decided to just go at it himself at work and in this plan. Because after all, no one knew the Greys quite like Harry and that more or less made the McCallister plot thread moot in this tale, allowing for us to return to Patience and see how everyone else was doing post season-two finale and well… the friends we’ve come to know and love over the past three seasons, were living, as only they can do. Which meant that for Ben and Kate, they simply forged ahead and tried to live their best lives despite knowing deep down that something was amiss. For sadly, they were still having encounters with the Greys and had no memory of what became of their baby. But something was indeed off, and there were trigger points everywhere. Making them victims of trauma really, who sadly… could not pinpoint how to heal from it. Setting the stage for a powerful journey for them, and they weren’t the only ones just plugging ahead. After all, D’Arcy had some missteps in life to recover from, but she had support from her new roomie and Mike and Liv were also just plugging way… hoping for answers.
Making it seem as though, season three was going to kick off in a very relaxed manner. Wherein everyone was going to reflect and work toward a better tomorrow. But alas… there was some juicy stuff waiting for everyone to handle. Simply because, a Grey-hybrid known as Joseph was settling deeper and deeper into his role with the Sheriff’s office. For he wanted answers and was ready to cause trouble. As evidenced by how he poked the bear when meeting Harry at the hospital, and by asking out Asta. Since that was clearly part of his plan to rattle Harry to conduct whatever evils he so wished to and that led… to quite the incredible sequence of events.
Simply because, Harry saw an opportunity to use Asta to get at this monster and learn of his doings, and he went the extra mile to do so. In part, by encouraging the date and by breaking and entering. Because he wanted Asta to carry a listening device to help in his quest to bring down the Greys, and when a little B&E didn’t help, he went to the source and he made things awkward during her date, and he even pondered upon the tradition of his people when he was concerned that Asta wasn’t going to help. Which meant… murder, plain and simple. But it turned out that Asta, had her own suspicions and did want to help, a move that brought great calm to Harry and an understanding… that he was in a far better place now more than ever. For he had support, and a real chance now to do good. Granted, it took nearly murdering his best friend to figure that out. But he got there, and that moment, and all that came before it, including that interesting twist involving Max, made for a delightful third season premiere. One that perfectly eased us back into this world in a dynamic manner, and of course… was home to the warmth and humor and subtle messaging this series is known for. Because let’s be honest, that final scene was touching, and funny, in fact… everything involving Harry’s want for Asta to help was amazing. And it truly set the stage for this season’s underlying themes, and well… now that this wondrous show is back on the air, it will be interesting to see what amazing moments await us as season three continues along. Until next time. To learn more about the journey ahead check out our interviews with Cast Members: Sara Tomko and Alice Wetterlund, Levi Fiehler and Meredith Garretson, and Corey Reynolds.
