One particular saying that rings true in every corner of the modern world, is that we reap what we sow. For this truly is a universe that pays out what we put in, and it can take a lifetime for us to learn that all important lesson and put the right vibes into the universe to receive them in kind. And until we do, we endure ups and downs, some of which yes… we cannot control because that’s life… but the majority of what we do… comes forth from our actions, plain and simple. If anything, thr payout that the universe provides us with for what we do is top of mind today, simply because that lesson was put on display in the ugliest manner possible in the next episode of Power Book II: Ghost on STARZ. Which is fascinating since ‘Sacrifice’ appeared to be a story that was going to offer business as usual. For instance, this is a story that saw Cooper Saxe and Davis MacLean play a delicate and dangerous game with Diana’s case because Tariq was able to express to Davis what was going on. Which meant Diana needed to be protected at all costs while a plan was formed to keep the Feds and the RICO case at bay, which was pretty standard stuff to find here… as was the plan to muck up law enforcement’s push to bring everyone in. Since Tariq figured out… he could use Effie as nothing more than a patsy for this whole mess, and put law enforcement into disarray. Granted, she didn’t know that… so this is a plot that appeared to be mired in revenge. Because she hadn’t a clue, she was collecting fake evidence around town while a tail kept a close eye upon her. But eventually, the madness went down, and Effie was placed under arrest for no reason and let go. Since any real evidence was hidden. Giving that breathing room to the group and buying them time to figure out how to move weight before Noma lost her mind again, and that was indeed… standard Power stuff. As was watching Councilman Tate try to lock down his future through debates, as was watching Dru work to deflect what he’d done to Gordo. Not to mention, the sudden Cane/Effie dynamic only made us more comfortable. As thought it was going to be business as usual in this universe no problem at all… but it didn’t take long, for people to reap what they sow in this universe.
For instance, the whole mess involving Weston Holdings began to boil over. For the secret was quickly getting out, and that made Monet and RSJ quite furious. Simply because their money was gone, as was Tariq’s and well… that meant this mess had to be dealt with, and the proverbial karma of that came back to bite Weston Holdings hard in this story. For RSJ eventually walked in there, ready to turn the entire company over to the SEC, unless of course… they made everyone whole again. Which despite some fury from Brayden’s uncle, such an act was agreed to. Making a wrong, right, for certain and well… that was the easy clapback in this particular tale. Because there were some darker consequences on the horizon for others in this story.
Because Effie… finally paid the piper in this story, but not for the reasons that one might think. Because there was no follow up on the drug mess for her, just follow-up from the woman she tried to kill. For Lauren wanted retribution for the attempt on her life, and she may now get it with Effie in custody for attempted murder and well… Cooper Saxe also paid a heavy price in this story. Because he was no longer protected and stood disgraced in this story. For he was part of the reason the first arrest on Effie fell to pieces and it was widely becoming known that he was a snitch and a double agent of sorts. Which prompted Davis’ brother… to do the unthinkable and force Cooper at gunpoint to his death before turning the gun on himself since he was within a month of the end of his own life as is. Hammering home, the reality that eventually, the dark stuff we do comes back to haunt us, and Cooper’s lack of loyalty to anyone but himself caught up with him, at the hands of another shady act no less. Since he paid handsomely to get Theo out and even that act of kindness, born out of selfishness, backfired, as well since Theo believed that the only honorable final act he could offer in this life, was bloodshed. If anything, this was just… a powerful episode of the show. One that made it clear to everyone in the game right now… that ugly acts will come back to haunt them, and now is the time to change course, and the only question that remains regarding that cold reality is… can they? Time will tell of course, but if the universe is ready to start rolling out payment for dark services rendered, things will only get worse in the weeks to come as season three of this brilliant series, begins to wind down. Until next time.
