One would think that television shows that find a way to reflect real life and our struggles, would stumble in the ratings and lose viewers. Simply because, escapism is the name of the game for a lot of viewers out there, and they don’t want to be part of something that will remind them of their day or their problems… they just want to be entertained. Yet shows that feature a slice of life, continue to find their way to the airwaves and they continue to be a success, simply because… they manage to tap into something that other shows simply cannot. In that, the moments in life they reflect, are something we relate to, something that ignites our imagination or reminds us of our own desires. Which is precisely why P-Valley on STARZ is such a rousing success with audiences. Because this is a show that is about the hustle, we all endure and work to enjoy, and how much our dreams mean to us and how much we want that perfect scenario where stacks of paper are at our fingertips and happiness reigns in our home. And this particular series taps into that… by giving us dynamic characters that while flawed at times, are inherently good or trying to better themselves and live their dreams and that… just sucks us into the story and has us hanging on their every word and triumph and setback. If anything, that engaging aspect to the slice of life story, is top of mind toady, simply because it was on display once again, in the next episode of this fascinating series. For ‘Seven Pounds of Pressure’ is a story that saw everyone down at The Pynk, pushing to live their collective dream of creating the biggest and baddest and downright sexiest strip club out there. A feat that Autumn was hoping to accomplish, by upping the ante when it comes to the quality of dancing. A move that led to some friction for certain, especially with Mercedes, but it paid off none the less. For The Pynk was packed to the brim on re-re-re opening night, and the new dancers were the talk of the night and well, it was just fascinating to see everyone here so hungry to make this place the success it has always been and grow it, and that truly drew us in and reminded us of our own dreams and how hard we work to achieve them. But as this series is wont to do, it went far deeper than a mere examination on our dreams and how easily we relate to such matters. It also took the time to address some of the everyday worries that we all share in. Since Uncle Clifford was lamenting the fact that they were turning forty in this episode and didn’t have everything they wanted to show for their age. Not to mention, this particular tale finally took the time to force a great deal of characters to reflect upon the horrors of Murda Night and the tough decisions made that evening, so that folks could start moving on and finding peace and well… all of these elements just made this another powerful chapter in an already powerful tale. For this really was an episode that captured some of the struggles of everyday life and how hard we work to overcome them and well… this is also an episode, that has you rooting for everyone. Because much like the rest of us, these characters have been through hell in the past year and are eager to find peace and prosperity and happiness once again, and how does one not root for that? Either way, this show just continues to impress week in and week out, and it continues to do a wonderful job of helping us to care deeply about the folks of Chucalissa and sadly… all we can do now is impatiently wait for the next chapter of this addicting and dynamic series. Until next time.
