‘Mary & George’ Recap: ‘The Hunt’

We are taught at a young age, that if we apply ourselves to a particular goal, we can achieve anything, and it makes sense as to why we are taught that particular lesson. Because our parents, want nothing more than to see us succeed, to become great people that achieve wonders and find peace in life in going after what we want. But what’s fascinating about this lesson, is that we tend to abandon it at a certain age. Courtesy of failure, worry, and the belief that not all goals are attainable. Something that is reinforced by what we see from the people around us. Who see their dreams go the wayside and falter. So… we deem it best to let it go and just accept what comes our way, when we should not.

Because dreams only go the wayside when we pour worry into them and if we give agency to failure. But if we learn from those missteps and forge ahead with the same determination, wonders will come our way and for proof… look no further than the next episode of Mary & George on STARZ. Because ‘The Hunt’ picked up shortly after George was humiliated in court with the King, and well… he and his mother had two paths to choose from following such failure. In that, they could see this grand plan to court the King and seduce him, as foolish and outlandish, and a failure and drop it accordingly. Or… stick with it, learn from it, and just go for it and get what they wanted and they of course… chose the latter after some quick housekeeping and accomplished wonders.

Granted there were still missteps along the way. After all, the first real attempt to get into the King’s court was met with more humiliation for George, courtesy of his second muddy bath. But that prompted he and his mother to speak with their contact to outline a better plan. One that truly did get George in front of the King, but even then… setbacks and roadblocks stood in the way of Mary and George’s ultimate goal. Since Somerset was relentless in trying to humiliate and harm George and Mary even found herself under fire for her past, and for her new romantic discretions here. Since her contact was eager to learn about her true identity and use it for leverage since she was so close to having so much. But those problems… didn’t totally matter in the end.

Because this duo really did continue to believe, they could achieve anything with a little determination. Which was why Mary worked with her new lover to poison her contact and remove him and his muscle from the equation. Which didn’t quite end as smoothly as Mary might have liked, since the muscle lived and dropped off some pertinent paperwork. But it was enough to keep Mary’s secrets at bay and keep her status in the community untouched, and as for George… well… his continued perseverance paid off as well. Since the King finally decided to give into the temptation and sexual energy that George sent his way. Allowing for intimacy and a new chapter to take place for George. One that will finally allow him and his mother to be close to the most powerful man in the world at the time.

In fact, Mary’s troubles may be nullified by the fact that her son is now the apple of the King’s eye. But while we wait to see how this newfound lust affair plays out, we can celebrate one smart tale. One that really did offer up a positive lesson in the wildest and most unique way possible. Because this writer is hard pressed to think of another story that hammered home that nugget of truth by way of a story that featured murder, mayhem, and wanton lust. But this one achieved that no problem, and it does deserve a round of applause for doing so. Since that does inform us, to make sure we chase our goals in an honest manner, so we aren’t surrounded by chaos and fury. But all that aside, what matters most… is that Mary and George have indeed reached the top and infiltrated the King’s Court and it will be interesting to see what they have planned for themselves and others… with the King’s heart now firmly affixed to his new beau.
