‘London Kills’ Recap: ‘Grace’

Caution: This article contains spoilers for the season three premiere of ‘London Kills’.

It is definitely safe to say that London Kills is one of the most intense crime dramas out there. Because year in and year out, this show continues to find new ways to put the audience on the edge of their seats. Courtesy of big moments and epic twists and turns, the kind that truly leave our jaws dropped and well… it would seem this series is showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to its overall intensity and ability to wow us every step of the way. For the season three premiere of this series dropped on Acorn TV yesterday and well… it was a doozy.

For ‘Grace’ picked up a little while after the events of the season two finale, and it wasted little time in getting the team back to work. For a fallen handyman, one that was done in through a screwdriver to the abdomen, allowed for the team to uncover quite the surprising fact. In that, said handyman, a man named Harry Steadman… had ties to the bar where Grace Harper worked. In fact, she was the wife of the bar owner and Harry was his brother, and well… it didn’t take long for this revelation to bring about all kinds of trouble for DI Bradford and his intrepid team. Since he had to work hard to keep DC Brady away from this news since he wasn’t himself after having discovered Grace’s body.

But of course, police work brings about answers regardless of an attempt to keep secrets and eventually, Rob came to learn about his involvement in a case that deeply unsettled him and that led to our first real surprise of the hour… a grand fight between Rob and David. One grounded in Rob’s newfound desire to outright leave the force. Because that case and everything in between… was just getting to be too much for him and that left David at a crossroads. One he wasn’t sure how to proceed with since Rob is the best. But while it was wonderful to sit down and learn more about the impact of ugly moments upon police officers, since that isn’t a common thing, we see in crime dramas… the other surprises in this tale really did take this premiere to a whole new level.

Since Rob was pushed to his breaking point in this tale, courtesy of Harry’s killer. Whom as it turned out, just so happened to be a cop himself and he… reports to the Chief Superintendent and they are clearly muddled together in some kind of grand and dirty conspiracy. The kind that will undoubtedly make life difficult for DI Bradford since they are clearly resigned to derailing this case, to continue along in their illegal duties and that’s just stunning. Since it truly informs us how deep the corruption in the police force goes and the kind of incredible work David is going to have to put in to root it out and bring justice forth for Grace and so many, and well… that’s a wonderful way to set up season three.

Because not only does this series of surprises feature the wow factor this show is known for and gives the audience some all-important answers, but they also managed to raise the stakes like never before. After all, that dirty cop actually stepped inside Rob’s home and took video to scare him, and now poor Vivienne is going to have to step in as well to bring these crooked cops and criminals to justice and that’s just incredible. Since now everyone minus Billie will have something vested in this nightmare and it will be fascinating to see where the surprises and the tough decisions presented here, take us in the weeks to come as we continue our journey through season three of this incredible show.
