There are a great many reasons that people eagerly tune into the hit Acorn TV series, Harry Wild. For some… it’s about the acting. Because Jane Seymour is a downright legend and she delivers every single episode, as do her castmates. After all, Rohan Nedd is simply electric as Fergus Reid and plays off of Jane well in every scene they’re in together. For others, it is about the fun factor, because this series does indeed keep things light, and that helps the viewer to process some of the dark things we are privy to. But of the many reasons we all tune in, there is one in particular that we all share in. In that, this show offers up some incredible cases for Harry and Fergus to solve, the kind that genuinely captivate and it just so happens that this week’s episode of the show offered just that. For ‘The Man Who Murdered Himself’ wasted little time in plunging us into quite the murder case. One where an ailing mystery author seemingly died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, inside of a locked panic room. Which at first glance, seems quite plausible. But once the room was torn open and the police and the deceased’s partner were able to look at the body, did the mystery come into play. For there was no gun to be found in the panic room, and that was quite the shock. Because a gun is required to line up a gunshot wound, much less a self-inflicted one and well… this was so puzzling that the other Harry in this town, who was originally assigned to the case, just handed it off to the Wild/Reid Agency and well, they had their work cut out for them. In large part because they too could find no clues as to how this happened. In fact, the evidence stacked hard against anyone stepping into the panic room to commit this crime, and their list of suspects were equally as worthless. Because while there was a rival writer that hated the deceased and claimed he stole a story from her, giving rise to motive for certain, the crimes she committed in this tale related to illegal sex work, not murder. Not to mention an old associate of the deceased had no real motive either to commit such harm, as it wasn’t in his nature. But… he did have a story to tell that led to some major surprises for this duo. In that, he was once in love with the deceased’s sister, and old-world views in an era gone by led to her death via a botched abortion when it was demanded that she terminate her pregnancy. But with a little digging, Harry came to discover, that she didn’t have the procedure after all, and died giving birth to a nephew. One who was deeply traumatized by the truth about his past when he was old enough to learn it, and in many ways… he blamed his uncle for all of his woes and a life of lies and that prompted him… to plan a long game of revenge. Wherein he would become a security expert and perhaps push some buttons to become the person that would install a panic room on his uncle’s property… so he could make the man pay with his life and leave no one the wiser. And this dear nephew would have gotten away with murder had it not been for Harry and Fergus, who caused just enough chaos to bring this man to justice and bring this impossible case to its close. All of which brought forth, one amazing episode of this series. Because this was one complex and powerful case. The kind that outright kept us guessing and on the edge of our seat. For it really did seem unsolvable and tested our heroes like never before, and it doesn’t hurt that the why behind it was equally as powerful, and that the misdirection here worked so well. Which means, it is probably is safe to declare this episode, season three’s best to date. Just because of how perfect it was and how hard our heroes had to work at cracking this one, but that’s what this show excels at. Those amazing cases that captivate and now, that we’ve reached the end of this doozy, we’re left waiting for more of this amazing series and it’s amazing writing and the next incredible case it is going to send our way. Until next time. Watch ‘Harry Wild’
