One particularly embarrassing act that we all take part in, in this life… is having a massive and worthless crush on someone. Because somewhere along the line, we are enamored by someone special that well… we lose our minds over. To the point where we are eager to please them and go the extra mile for them to win them over, when such efforts are all for naught. Because they are someone that would never give us the time of day or think of us in that particular manner and we end up feeling quite the fool when we realize that. For we come to realize we wasted a lot of time and a lot of effort on something meaningless, but there is some method to the madness of this particular kind of crush. For we do come to understand the importance of only pouring that kind of emotion into a person that has actual interest in us, and we also learn what those signals look like through the lack of care sent our way. So, we let go of that unhealthy crush and move forward and find the right person. But what’s scary, is that not everyone learns that particular lesson. In fact, some… hold onto the empty crush with such vigor that it can transform them in unhealthy and scary ways. To the point where they might cause harm to keep fantasy alive, and well… that particularly scary aspect of the worthless crush is top of mind today, simply because it brought about great harm in the next episode of Harry Wild on Acorn TV. However, it didn’t seem as though that was going to be the case initially in ‘Lights, Camera, Murder’. Because at first, Harry and Fergus were called in to help with a unique murder investigation involving a hated television director. Hated because he changed scripts too often, favored a terrible actress in a lead role, and was simply difficult to work with. Which gave rise to a bevy of potential suspects that all had good reason to want to give into the dark side, but the clues didn’t point to anyone in particular. If anything, Harry and Fergus only uncovered a bunch of insecurities and worries, and no real leads on a killer… until an attempt to try and connect some previously unconnected dots… brought about a possibility. In that, there was one man they had not considered as a suspect, who had unique ties to the very awful actress. In that, he was around her constantly, had worked with her on multiple shows, and always managed to find an open spot to act as her security guard. And since there was talk from the now dead director that she was going to be written off her current job… suspicion began to surround him in Harry and Fergus’ collective mind and well, that prompted them to fire off quite the gambit to learn… that this man did it. Because he was someone that harbored that unhealthy crush for certain. For he truly believed this gal would one day be his, when all she wanted was the attention, and that need and that desire to somehow will this into existence… forced him to kill. Which spoke volumes to the unhealthy nature of that relentless hollow crush, and how we have to let it go before it poisons our soul and transforms us into something awful because fantasy can replace all things. Which made for a bleak and unsettling tale for certain, one that oddly… never overwhelmed, however. Courtesy of a kitschy and well-designed subplot involving Orla and her obsession over the show in question, and one meta and delightful moment involving Harry’s ‘acting’ skills. Which really was quite the fourth wall treat. Both of which helped the lesson stick just right and well, bleak or no, all of these elements do speak to a brilliant episode for certain. One that added a unique twist to the crime of passion trope, and well, now that this case has come to a close, it’s onto the next one and all the wonder and intelligence it will send our way. Until next time. Watch ‘Harry Wild’
