‘Bosch: Legacy’ Recap – ‘Pumped’

When we last settled into discuss the delightful new Amazon Freevee series, Bosch: Legacy, we talked at length about how wonderful it was to have Harry Bosch back on the air and we also talked… to a lesser extent, about Harry’s new chapter in life and how he was properly adjusting to his fresh start as a Private Investigator, and we talked about that in brief, with good reason. Because the series premiere was designed to set the stage and reintroduce us into Harry’s world and life, making the fresh start aspect of the story… a necessary oversight. But since the Bosch universe always makes a point to revisit everything it introduces; the good news is that the next episode in this delightful series wasted little time in making the fresh start the focus of its story.

For ‘Pumped’ is a tale that really wanted to explore what goes into getting comfortable and settling into a new life when we’ve opted to make some major changes, and it accomplished that by having us spend some quality time with everyone in this tale. So, we could watch Maddie come to learn that part of settling into a fresh start, involves assimilation of sorts. Where in this instance, not being overzealous and following the right rules while making mistakes, can make life easier and help people to appreciate you. As evidenced by how her new partner, Reina had her back when she opted to support Officer Vasquez in a bust that led to a mistake on Maddie’s part. And it was just wonderful to see that learning one lesson and executing it, led to growth and opportunity, and respect for Maddie, and that her ability to learn... might make her a successful LAPD officer after all.

As for Honey… well she came to learn that one big way to adjust to a new chapter in life, is to go all in regarding it. Which is why she decided that in order to win her case, it would be best that she went for broke investigation wise. Which led her to discover a gross oversight on the prosecution’s part. In that, they neglected to notice that the evidence found on the dead doctor’s body, was related to DNA transfer. Because the same paramedics that treated the doctor, treated her client when he had a seizure no less than an hour after responding to the initial call involving the doc, and since the same oxygen monitor was used on both patients, the evidence was shared and when that was presented in court, Honey won her first case no problem and quickly found her mojo back as a lawyer and also realized, she was going to be fine in this new role.

As for Bosch, well he adjusted to his new chapter in life… by doing what he does best. Which is of course... finding the truth. Because he wouldn’t rest until he was able to prove that Vance had an heir and while it appeared at first, he might be wasting his time with this case, a hot lead regarding an employee at the orphanage that might have knowledge and names, led Bosch to visit that woman and gather all kinds of pertinent information. The kind that finally gave him a name and the truth, that Vance did indeed have an heir and it is only a matter of time now, before Harry is face to face with this heir and able to break the news that a vast fortune awaits them and their family and well… for a guy like Harry Bosch, there really is no better way to settle into a fresh start than by sticking with familiar territory.

Plus, it didn’t hurt that Harry quietly worked to build a case against Rogers in this story as well… since he put all kinds of surveillance upon him, giving Harry another much needed boost in the belief he was making the right changes and well… in the end, this was just a satisfying episode. One that not only offered us insight into how we make a fresh start stick and what goes into making us comfortable with it, but it also informed us… our favorite characters are going to shine in their new roles. Reaffirming the reality that they made the right calls after all at the end of the original series and truly, it will be wonderful to watch them grow into their new chapters as the weeks and days continue along and it will also be interesting… to see what comes out of the reveal regarding that heir. Since we now know that others want the Vance fortune and are willing to cause trouble… to get their hands upon it. Until next time.
