When we last settled in to discuss the phenomenal Amazon Freevee series, Bosch: Legacy, we talked at length about how… it was shocking to see season two’s penultimate episode resolve as much as a season finale would. Because normally final showdowns and big resolution are saved for the end of the season. But Ellis was dead, and the FBI was left mostly inert in their case against Honey and Harry and left us all of us to wonder what exactly the show had up its sleeve for the finale. Well as it turned out, ‘A Step Ahead’ informed us that such a move, was to set the stage for a vastly different journey for each of the characters in the upcoming third season of the show. Which meant, we came to the end of the Parks case. Courtesy of Harry, who went into the hospital to get Long to start talking on tape. To push the District Attorney to dismiss the charges. But of course, he wanted the win, wanted someone to take the fall for the death of a cop’s wife and that prompted Honey to play hardball. Which worked and saved an innocent man, and going this route also inspired her. Because the FBI basically ended her private practice and shattered relationships, and she was disgusted by what happened enough with them and with the DA, to declare her intentions to run for District Attorney, setting up a bold new journey for Honey Chandler. Because as Maddie put it, Honey will likely win. Not to mention, having the FBI’s case explode in the last episode allowed for Mo to put the nail in the coffin of the investigation, freeing him up to live with a bit more agency in season three. A feat he accomplished by becoming wise to what the Feds were up to. Because he immediately sniffed out the ruse and used that to his advantage. To keep the FBI at bay long enough to set up a trap for them. Wherein he confronted his sweetie about her secret identity, to make the Feds look the fool and force them to leave him alone, without an ounce of any information regarding Honey and Harry’s actions. Putting an end to that investigation, once and for all, and freeing Honey and Harry to follow their new paths. Which for Harry, may not be so rosy. Because this episode saw a wedge be driven between, he and his daughter. In part, because of his bravado in going after Ellis. Since it put Madison on admin leave for a while as the LAPD searched for Ellis’ weapon, and having time to herself, allowed for her to ponder on her father and his actions. How he had a tendency to just go rogue and do things in a foolish manner or cross lines in the name of justice. And that left her wondering how much she could take, and that was pushed to its limit here, by the inference that dad denied her a powerful wish. For she wanted her attacker to rot in prison, yet he died, and Harry seemed to be involved. A revelation that really did hint at Harry taking revenge upon Dockweiler, and that may put a divide between the two of them if true. Which really did set the stage for a powerhouse third season, courtesy of an episode that really did wrap up a bevy of storylines to create that new path. Making this a unique season finale for certain. One that was grounded in change and transition instead of hard resolution, but it worked and made for an engaging story that really does have us eager and ready to see what season three holds for these iconic and amazing characters, as they enter new chapters in life… the kind that may bring about joy and sorrow, as is oft the case in life. Until next time. Watch ‘Bosch: Legacy’
