There are two truths that always accompany failure. The first, is that it won’t feel good in the slightest to fail, because we are taught to be winners in this life and should never endure an ounce of failure. Second, is the sheer fact that there will be fallout from our failure. For it will hurt more people than ourselves and we will have to pick up the pieces when the dust settles from our mistake. But on the plus side, in the everyday world, we can lick our wounds and pick up those pieces and move on with some measure of ease. Because failure usually stems from poor choices and emotional wounding that can be mended. But that’s not the case in every corner of the world. For in the criminal underworld, failure is devastating, and it can in fact… be difficult to come back from, as evidenced by this week’s episode of BMF on STARZ. For ‘Casualties of War’ saw BMF dealing with failure after the Techwood fight and after paying respects, next steps had to come into play to keep the money flowing. Which for Meech… was no easy task. For the fallout he had to deal with, involved the Red Dogs coming down hard on his crew, and that put immense pressure upon the ATL chapter of the business. To the point where Meech realized, that the only thing he could do to cool things down, was to leave town for a bit, set up the business in St. Louis and wait for an all clear. For there was no easy path to fixing a street fight and well, this was no easy decision, since it cost him love, but Meech did what he had to. As for Terry… well the fallout he had to deal with back in the D, was staving off war before it started. Because Henri was eager now to just let loose in the streets and get a weakened BMF out of the game to build the empire she wanted and well… Terry had seen enough suffering and saw a chance to barter peace. All by going to Henri’s father to appeal to his honor and request a truce so that the streets of Detroit weren’t running with blood. A move that worked like a charm and offered some measure of quiet on the streets. If only for a little while. Because sadly, Henri didn’t quite subscribe to the notion of peace. She wanted agency, her fiefdom and decided she would have her little tastes of power wherever she could grab them. Which in this instance, meant burning a traitor alive… just to keep that reputation going. Which also informed us how hard fallout is to contain, and yet… this episode still had more of it to explore. After all, Bryant paid dearly for his moonlighting. Since he lost his job and nearly lost his life going after Henri. And surprisingly, to properly offer balance in this story, fallout from real world failures were peppered in to showcase contrast and how much easier those are to repair. In an effort perhaps, to entice folks to skip the life. Since we saw Charles struggle with the mistakes of his own marriage, with grace no less. Since he offered Lucille time to do what she needed to do to come back to him. Not to mention, Terry is finally paying the piper for his infidelity, since he almost missed the birth of his son because Markisha doesn’t respect his family, just Terry. As evidenced by the advice she offered here to entice him to leave everyone else behind. All of which set the stage for interpersonal conflicts that will likely get fixed down the line. Because those are easier failures to come back from. They take time, they take trust, and they take healing and perhaps a fix there, will give Terry a little confidence boost at a critical time. Because Henri still wants war, and hopefully St. Louis does the same for Meech. Since his security blanket in Atlanta is starting to tear. But while we wait and see what lies ahead, we can celebrate, another brilliant tale from this series. One that did an amazing job of showcasing what failure really looks like in the world underneath our own, and how powerful and destructive it can be. Since BMF is basically badly damaged and adrift at this point, and it will take some incredible work to bring it to glory and to help it become the empire that the Flenory Brothers watched over for so long. Until next time. Watch ‘BMF’
