Peacock Releases Trailer for Original True Crime Docuseries ‘Face to Face with Scott Peterson’8/15/2024 Written by John Edward Betancourt
Truly, there are few modern crimes as compelling and as revolting as the Laci Peterson case. For some twenty years later, the world cannot wrap their head around this heinous crime and how it came to be, to the point where there have been countless stories and countless documentaries chronicling the crime and all of its grizzly details, and well… there is so much still to this case, that it just so happens that Peacock will soon be revisiting it.
For August 20 will see the debut of Face to Face with Scott Peterson, a three-part documentary that not only revisits the case, but explores some of the surprising developments that have come up in the past few years, and will feature Scott’s first interview since 2003 and well, to properly set the stage for this unique exploration, Peacock also released a trailer, and details on the show, which we will share with you now, to help you steel your nerves as you prepare to immerse yourself in this harrowing case once more. 'Peacock debuts trailer and key art for Face to Face with Scott Peterson, a three-part true crime docuseries that takes a new look at the notorious case of Scott Peterson and the murders of his wife Laci Peterson and unborn son Conner. With the approaching 20th anniversary of Scott Peterson’s conviction, Peterson gives his first on-camera interview since 2003 in the series, premiering August 20 exclusively on Peacock. The docuseries will also follow the latest developments after the Los Angeles Innocence Project announced they were taking Scott’s case in early 2024. Face to Face with Scott Peterson features an exclusive series of intimate conversations between Director Shareen Anderson (EP The Murder of Laci Peterson) and Peterson, along with his sister-in-law Janey Peterson, former Modesto Police Department lead detective Al Brocchini and detective Jon Buehler, Scott’s former defense attorney Lara Yeretsian, and former ABC News Producer Mike Gudgell, among others. Produced by Universal Television Alternative Studios, Face to Face with Scott Peterson’s executive producers are Shareen Anderson, Po Kutchins, Liz Yale Marsh, and Tim Clancy. ABOUT FACE TO FACE WITH SCOTT PETERSON It was a case that captivated the country. At 8 months pregnant, Laci Peterson went missing on Christmas Eve, 2002. As the investigation unfolded, her husband Scott was revealed to be a liar, a cheater, and ultimately a murderer. The world’s media hung on every moment of the trial, and Scott was convicted and sentenced to death. Case closed. Or is it? For the first time since before his arrest in 2003, Scott speaks on camera in a series of intimate conversations revealing his side of the story with Director and Executive Producer Shareen Anderson, who has been investigating this case for over a decade. While many still believe the jury got it right, Scott’s family and experts close to the case have spent over 20 years committed to uncovering inconsistencies in the evidence as well as finding new information around alternative theories surrounding Laci’s murder. And in a shocking twist on a murder the world thought was solved, the Los Angeles Innocence Project takes over Scott’s case in 2024. Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode 205 of ‘The Ark’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
It is definitely safe to say that science fiction is one of the smartest genres out there. Courtesy of the fact that it often showcases a future where humanity has conquered its prejudices and, in the process, embraced science, so that an enlightened and unified humanity can traverse the stars searching for meaning and enrichment. Wherein those stories tend to explore real-world problems that are out there amongst the stars and how we can potentially overcome them, to find a similar future. But what’s fascinating about science fiction and that particular structure for it… is that it assumes that humanity will also conquer the many, many internal fears and quirks we’ve harbored for as long as we have existed. For we are emotional beings that suffer through traumas, the kind that require emotional repair, but somehow… that’s rarely seen in science fiction. As though enlightenment heals such matters. Which is why the SYFY series, The Ark, is of note. For it is that rare outlier that understands that line of thinking is incorrect. For our imperfections would tail us into the stars, and they would have a grand impact upon us if the moment caused enough emotional damage, as evidenced by this week’s story. For ‘Museum of Death’ saw the crew of Ark 1 cautiously return to Ark 3 after discovering that people were moving aboard the ship and that an Eastern Federation shuttle had docked with the vessel, and well… that caution was warranted because what lie ahead on the ship, was terrifying to say the least. Simply because, the away team came to discover that the ship wasn’t populated, it was merely the museum of death that the title spoke of. Because someone had removed all the bodies buried aboard the ship from cold storage and placed them and arranged them as though they were alive and well, and it turned out… that it was Eva’s brother, Bojan, who did this. For he slipped away from Earth aboard an EF-Ark and eventually escaped that ship in the hopes of finding his sister aboard Ark 3, with his family no less. For he found love and friendship aboard his original ship and wanted to reunite all. But his wife and those he called brothers and sisters… perished along the way and that broke him and prompted him to make one poor call after another, and act out to try and heal, and all that eventually cost him his life. Which brought forth, a powerful exploration regarding the power of trauma, and how it could manifest in deep space without the support network present in our modern world and what a tragedy that would turn out to be. Because truly, Bojan was a broken and lost soul here, one so shattered by loss and the devastation of leaving a burning home, and so filled with pain over a lack of support and love, that there was no hope of recovery, and well… that was simply incredible to see on display here, and of course… offered a lesson to us as this show is wont to do. In that, we should always support one another and do our best to help those down so they don’t become Bojan, for one cannot help but wonder how his path would have turned out with love and support. The kind that Eva will receive for certain, regardless of what we learn about her shady past. However, this episode wasn’t completely bleak, since we did see a bridge module swap. Which brought about more living space and comfort, and the return of a bridge for the captain and her senior staff to work with, and we saw Kelly work to heal, and Angus was back into the world and starting a new journey since life has changed a bit. But joy aside, make no mistake about it, this was a bold tale, one that went where science fiction rarely does, and it featured some wild moments that really did speak to the power of trauma on a level we don’t see that often in television. But we should expect nothing less from this series. Because trailblazing is where it thrives, and it will be interesting to see what other unique ideas and explorations await us… as season two of this brilliant series continues along. Until next time. Caution: This article contains spoilers for the Season Three Finale of ‘The Outlaws’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
One particular trope that appears often in stories about the criminal underworld, in any capacity, is that in order to bring down a true criminal heavy… the antihero must fight fire with fire and put an end to the villain in the most violent manner possible. Which is used because such a dark path feels… natural to us, since such an act is indeed off the beaten path and perhaps happens to be the perfect way to handle street justice in a world we don’t understand. Not to mention, it’s a good escapist concept since deep down we know, that such acts aren’t always commonplace, and that law enforcement tends to get involved when someone truly evil is flexing their muscles upon the world, so that bloodshed can be avoided. Which is why the Prime Video series, The Outlaws, resonates with us so. Because it features everyday people that we can relate to and plunges them into situations that defy such a trope and speak to how perhaps people might really escape harrowing situations involving bad people, and never was this more evident, than during the show’s season three finale. For this episode brought the Outlaws to the brink, for the Dean was about to escape and they had no idea how to stop him. Not with guards being present at the very home they needed to invade to find the evidence necessary to put him away, and not with dirty cops and double crosses surrounding them. Since Burgess was out for blood and Christian seemingly made a deal with that dirty cop. So, the Outlaws turned to different methods, that didn’t involve murder to win the day and set up Burgess for a fall… because Christian was in fact, with the Outlaws all the way and wanted to burn Burgess bad. And by using guile and deceit and patience to break into the Dean’s house, and Burgess’ big mouth… they were able to get their hands on the drive in question. Which should have brought down the Dean no problem. But a guy as powerful as the Dean, would have more than one minion and that was why there was another man on the force that was willing to cross lines for a big payday and that brought our antiheros back to the brink. Because the hard drive was smashed, and they were on the run, without evidence to stop a mad man from getting out of jail and harming them. But a little more guile from Rani, and some bold choices from a hiding perspective, allowed for Diane to record an ugly conversation between the dirty cops and Ben and Rani, and that was enough to have them arrested, wherein they sang and kept the villain behind bars. All of which served as the anthesis for this kind of story. Since different and honest methods brought down one evil dude. Giving rise to a very unique ending to this three-year journey. One that saw no blood shed and saw so many of the Outlaws grow into a new chapter in their lives. Since John and Myrna became close friends and found romantic peace. Plus, Greg was finally a top-tier lawyer and a dad to be since Gabby was going to have his child. Not to mention, Rani and Ben, went their separate ways because they wanted different things out of life. Ben wanted to settle down and enjoy stability, whereas Rani needed to find herself and really understand her path after sulking about the criminal world for so long and well, that’s where this story leaves us. With everyone on new paths, including Diane and her hero, bringing this chapter to a close but not closing the book on the story, and it will be interesting to see if more seasons of this story lie ahead, of if this was a series finale. But while we wait to see which is which, we can celebrate one great episode. One that defied convention and brought about a satisfying end to a satisfying journey that was unlike any other in the genre. Watch ‘The Outlaws’

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episodes Seven and Eight of ‘Time Bandits’. To revisit the previous two episodes, clickhere.
One thing that we can all agree upon, is that family can sometimes be overwhelming. Courtesy of stressful moments in our household or the general, and sometimes ugly, disagreements that happen. All of which leave us eager to just get away from them all. Not because we don’t love them, but because sometimes… we just need a minute apart to clear our heads and bring down the temperature. So, so we can be reminded… of how important our family is to us, and that in turn helps us to resolve and reconcile with our family. Which is important to do, because we only get one, and they are special people that mean the world to us, and well, that particular truth is top of mind today, because it was featured in the next block of episodes of Time Bandits on Apple TV+. A feat that ‘Ice Age’ and ‘Home Again’ accomplished, by way of some awkward family reunions to say the least. For we learned that the shaky portal from last week’s tales did indeed transport the entire team… into the heart of the Ice Age. A place they have been before but this time around… there was a surprise present here. In that, the cavemen that populated this era spoke some rudimentary English, mostly slang, and that was because Saffron had spent three years of her life in the cold. So, she taught them how to talk and how to function and how YOLO was more than a catchy slogan, but a true mantra for life, and well… this reunion allowed for Kevin and Saffron to reconnect and understand how much they loved one another and how badly they wanted to save their parents. Which prompted a trip back home, one that also went… in a weird direction. Because the map sent them to the 1990s, when their parents were still kids through and through. A move that really didn’t offer a grand opportunity to save them as they had hoped, but it did allow for internal reconciliation to take place. Since both Kevin and Saffron were able to be open with the kid versions of mom and dad and speak to what they felt in their heart. All of which… spoke to how time away from their parents gave them perspective and longing, and an understanding what family meant to them. Which really did bring forth fine lessons for all of us, and some tender moments. The kind that seemed bittersweet since Kevin wasn’t sure that anything that they accomplished in the 90s would save mom and dad’s lives in the slightest. But the chaos that ensued in the 90s, courtesy of not one, but two Fianna’s chasing them about… did some good after all. Because it taught mom and dad to prepare for the moment she would arrive in present day 2024, and because of that, they were captured instead of cooked and were able to speak to their kids from the lair of Pure Evil. Who demanded a trade, the map for mom and dad’s precious lives, and well, just like that… the stage was set for an epic finale. One where Kevin and Saffron could potentially save their parents and all of space and time, and they might have real heroes to help them. Since the Time Bandits finally came into their own here and accomplished wonders in keeping Kevin and Saffron, and the family safe. All of which made, for a pair of lovely episodes, that were filled to the brim with heart and magnificent lessons on the wonder and the majesty of family, and how time away helps to heal all things regarding them. Which gave us grand perspective and offered us some stunningly good laughs. Because let’s be honest, the running gag involving that goth gent, was the stuff of legend, as was the whole ‘GranDad’ sequence. Plus, Saffron teaching protohumans how speak slang was ridiculously hilarious. Since none of us had hearing a caveman say ‘sus’ on our 2024 bingo card. But it happened and it was amazing and well, now that the Haddock family has healed in one special way, the time has come to turn our attention to one epic season finale, where Kevin and his heroic friends will fight to save the ‘rents from Pure Evil’s clutches. Until next time. Watch ‘Time Bandits’

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode Four of ‘Women in Blue (Las Azules)’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
It really is quite amazing what the new Apple TV+ series, Women in Blue (Las Azules) is accomplishing from a storytelling standpoint. For it truly is putting on a masterclass in how a crime show can speak to the nature of the world and some of its biggest problems, while still offering up a compelling and powerful mystery for its protagonists to solve. Since we are indeed receiving commentary regarding how much the past resembles the present from an equality standpoint, along with musings regarding the need for more checks and balances regarding law enforcement. All while our four intrepid heroines dig deep into the horrors of the Undresser, and well, this is top of mind today, simply because it was once again put on display during this week’s episode. For ‘Alma’ saw the woman of the same name… whom we met during last week’s episode at the shoe store, turn up as the Undresser’s latest victim. Thankfully, she survived his attempts to kill her because of a tumor in her neck, but she was badly wounded nevertheless and she sent shockwaves through the department since it meant Las Azules were right and the Undresser was still out there and active and that motivated the core four, to continue their work in secrecy and silence and even go so far as to root out a potential suspect. For they did what Gerardo was unable to do in talking to people, and actually reach them since they spoke without anger or provocative tones, and in doing so… were able to get Alma’s coworker to name a name, Juan Carlos. Who was indeed the mystery man begging Alma for a date, and his fury over that did make him a prime suspect, and in order to bring him to justice without having eyes roll at them for not staying in their lane, Las Azules convinced that poor co-worker to go to the police in person, to make the whole matter seem as though Gerardo put this together, and in doing so… the show then leaned into its examination of the police and how they sometimes have more freedom with their cases than perhaps they should. Since Gerardo brought the man in and went right to work in the same manner he did with Tito. Flexing upon Juan Carlos and trying to instill fear, and he was woefully unsuccessful in that working for him a second time around. In large part because bravado and machismo of that caliber is just silly, but also because… Juan Carlos didn’t do it.
For his alibi checked out, and he was also the son of a well-known judge in town. So, all of Gerardo’s actions were wasted on someone who yes, was defiant, and violent, since he did smash María’s windshield during an unsanctioned stakeout. But only because he was just a high-grade a-hole. But more importantly, he was outright innocent. So, Juan Carlos went back out into the world and the mystery of the Undresser remained and well, that was indeed a sequence of events that left us pondering deeply upon… how perhaps we need more checks and balances regarding how police handle suspects. Because what we saw here, isn’t anything new, it still happens and it wasn’t right, and in this instance and countless others… innocent men have been bullied into crimes they didn’t commit. And while this didn’t offer answers on how we get to something more balanced, showcasing how loose cops are allowed to operate, may help in starting those discussions.
Of course, with the Undresser on the loose and with no answer on the horizon, that allowed for some downtime to take place in this story. Wherein those explorations regarding equality, and our lack of progress regarding it, came into play. For in this tale, we came to learn that Alejandro did not snag the promotion he was expecting to enjoy and he of course, blamed María for his failure since she spoke to the big boss about her new job, and he of course expected compliance in her, accompanying him, to a dinner party to celebrate the man who got the job, as penance. Which she did, under the guise that he was going to change and was being a better partner. But instead, she was left to her own devices for the night and ended up back at work, of course. All because, Alejandro could not take the blow to his ego for failing of his own accord. But rather than be culpable, it became his wife’s fault and his wife’s problem and that… is the kind of nonsense we still see today, and it was just as embarrassing to see here as it was in 1971, and it was a fine reminder of how baby steps have only been made in equality. All of which made for an episode that blended all of those elements together in a beautiful manner, and it also continued to let the other characters grow. Since Valentina and Gabina are becoming fast friends and Gabina is learning how to live at last, since they partied in a sequence that well, could have some bearing on the future. Plus, Ángeles might be falling in love and finding new direction and well, all of these elements made for just one amazing episode. One that truly kept us glued to our seats and offered up so much for us to ponder upon, and that just speaks to the brilliance of this story and the care that went into crafting it and truly, this does leave us ready and eager for more. To see how Las Azules deal with more painfully relevant societal challenges, and to see, what comes next in this harrowing case. Until next time. Watch ‘Women in Blue (Las Azules)’

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode 304 of ‘The Outlaws’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
When we are on a healing journey or one that requires us to put in the work to avoid further hardships, we come to realize… that we have no idea as to what kind of progress we are making. Because what’s truly difficult about this journey, is that there are no solid markers that tell us we are healing. There’s just the work and the hope that we are making progress. So how then does one really gauge that they’re growing and moving toward a better tomorrow? Well, the best way to know, is to take a moment and reflect upon our wins, objectively, so we can see the progress in there. Or… look at our lives objectively and honestly. If anything, this complex and important part of the healing process is top of mind today because it was put on display in the next episode of The Outlaws on Prime Video. A feat that this story accomplished through several powerhouse storylines. One of which involved John. Who really, truly, thought that the only way he could heal was by taking his father down and resuming control of the company. But a little time with Myrna’s new squeeze, revealed unto him… that revenge and one-upmanship wouldn’t let him heal. It would just put him into a cycle of emotional violence, the kind his father taught him, and that if he really wanted to heal… he needed to look at his life objectively. Which he did, and he came to understand through that objective look, that he was happier without the company hanging over his head and that his anger was prompting him to miss out, and that with one great choice, he could quickly heal and find a path that didn’t involve his father’s oversight. That prompted him, to let his father keep his spot on the board and he just… walked away… and spent time with his family and focus on breaking the cycle and forging his own path. But there was mention of two storylines involving reflection, and Greg handled the second one. Who was in court at last to defend Lady Gabby and secure her riches. A watershed moment that would showcase that Greg finally made progress in every way he wanted. But alas, the fleet of lawyers that Gabby’s dad hired poked holes in his case and made sure to have every single ‘i’ dotted and ‘t’ crossed to ensure no surprises and that was hard on Greg. Who really tried his best and wondered if by chance he was going to fail and not become the person and professional he wanted to be. But one particular moment, and a simple oversight on the Earl’s part… landed Greg a win. Which allowed for Greg to understand, he is a great lawyer, and he can accomplish wonders. A truth he reflected upon after the win, he truly explored how we find strength and progress through our victories. However, while that was heartwarming stuff to see, the matter of the Dean still hung heavy over this episode, and Rani and Ben spent most of their time handling that. Because with the case crumbling around them, and with there being a need for evidence, they turned to Smiley’s widow to discuss what he knew and how best to bring down the Dean in a risky move that almost got them captured by Burgess and the police. But that gambit paid off. Because it helped us, Ben, and the Outlaws to learn that Rani was indeed innocent and never once caused harm and that… the Dean has a weakness, courtesy of a hard drive that’s hiding in his home, and it brought forth a new ally in Diane. Because the crumbling case finally prompted her to step forward in an effort to help her hero DC clear her name and just like that, the stage is set for one epic finale. One where a newly focused group that understands they can achieve wonders, will go after their biggest antagonist, on the clock no less, since the Dean is so close to being released. And they’ll have to take on double crosses and corrupt police, since we also learned that Christian is working with Burgess to be free and clear of any trouble, by handing over the Outlaws. But while we wait to see how the finale plays out, we can celebrate, one amazing story. One that truly showcased some incredible growth, the kind we’ve wanted to see because of how much we love these characters and want to see them succeed. And it was just glorious to watch it happen, in a healthy and dynamic manner and it does leave us wondering as well, if growth will also be in the cards for the finale. After of course, the dust settles regarding the Dean, for better or worse. Until next time. Watch ‘The Outlaws’

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode Three of ‘My Lady Jane’. To revisit the previous episode, click here.
For the most part, stories that exist in an alternate timeline where someone important in history survived their early expiration… rarely right the timeline, if you will. Simply because, the possibilities are now endless, and a life can truly be explored to the fullest… so why bother with going back and set up the possibility that someone might tragically fade from time once again? But now and again, you do see a story go the opposite route and feature that cornerstone moment of their life. Not to be cruel, mind you, but to further toy with the notion of ‘What if?’ and see what would happen if they were able to live and thrive and be part of what robbed them of life. If anything, this particular aspect of storytelling is top of mind today, simply because the next episode of My Lady Jane on Prime Video, opted to slightly correct the very timeline that it shattered, in quite the grandiose fashion. For ‘With a Girl Like You’ spent a lot of time, inside the palace walls to explore the finer points of what happens when a King dies. For dear Edward VI was gone now and that meant Seymour and Mary were eager to execute the next part of their plans. Which was to have Mary ascend to the throne, and execute Lord Dudley for harming the King, so they could enact horrific and sweeping changes to England, the kind that would see the Ethians perish. But there was, just one particular problem with their plan. In that, the last Will and Testament of the King, went missing. Which they badly needed in order to properly complete Mary’s ascension to the throne. So, rather than wait to find it and do things the right way, it stood to reason… to just forge a document. After all, once a guy like Seymour decides to commit to regicide, what’s a little forgery going to do to a fractured conscience? But alas, forging a new Will was no easy task. In large part because the new one needed the King’s seal, which wasn’t readily available. But that didn’t stop Seymour from trying to push it through and well, it was a wonderful thing that everyone demanded that seal. Because it allowed for the real Will to finally show up (it was in Beth’s room all along) and well, put history back on course, just a bit, if you will. Because it did name a successor, Jane to be specific, and that could not have come at a better time for her. Since her journey here was filled with struggle and moving moments. Since she failed over and over again to find a cure for Guildford, and she even found herself under fire from assassins. Granted, she clearly could handle herself, but that was a lot, as was what Susannah did to try and afford a meal. Since she lied about being kidnapped to get some money, a move that prompted Jane to take a beat and learn the why behind such an act and well, that made the news that she was now the Queen of England, both bittersweet and delightful. The former because obviously, Edward has followed his fate, albeit late and that’s just tragic. But the latter, means that Jane gets her shot to be Queen after all, just like her real-world counterpart did, and that perhaps… things will go quite differently this time. Since this Jane has a little more life experience, which can help guide her and well, this made for one wild episode. One that showcased all kinds of incredible moments and incredible ideas and truly does pique our interest with its bold choice storytelling wise. Because history is kinda, sorta, back on track here and that can indeed lead to a unique examination of how Jane would have ruled under better circumstances, just… with Ethains present. Which means the time has come to hit play and see what a Jane Grey era would have looked like, courtesy of the wonder of ‘What if?’ Until next time. Watch ‘My Lady Jane’
