Written by John Edward Betancourt Caution: This article contains spoilers for the series finale of ‘Lost in Space’. To revisit the show’s penultimate episode, ‘Contingencies on Contingencies’, click here. Decades ago, in another century for that matter, a grandiose and incredible journey got underway. One that involved an intrepid family known as the Robinsons, who were looking to venture through deep space to settle into a new home in the planets surrounding Alpha Centauri. But thanks to circumstances beyond their control… they were plunged into the depths of the void and lost to the solar winds and that premise, managed to captivate audiences everywhere for over fifty years. For seeing humanity be forced to use their wits on worlds and environments that are alien to us, made for compelling television, the kind that allowed for Lost in Space to survive three seasons on network television. Which was no easy task in the unfriendly to Sci-Fi sixties, and this concept even managed to give life to a turn of a century big budget reimagining of the original story and of course… a remake series on Netflix. But while we have indeed enjoyed the plight of the Robinsons for generations now, there has been one big problem hovering over this franchise. In that, it has never received a proper ending in the slightest. For the original show went off the airwaves before the Robinsons could find Alpha Centauri and the movie, was slated to get a sequel… until its box office returns motivated the studio move onto other projects. Which meant it was up to the Netflix series to do the impossible. To not only find a way to end this story on its own terms for the first time ever, but to do so in a compelling and powerful and downright satisfying manner and well, believe it or not, ‘Trust’, the series finale of this intrepid and wonderful show… accomplishes that goal. But not before giving the audience the epic final fight we’ve all been waiting for. After all the worst that has happened between SAR and the Robinsons, is that both sides have traded tough blows and nothing more. But here, the arrival of SAR’s ship and his reinforcements led to one stunning final and savage fight, courtesy of quite the twist. For while Penny Robinson was working to save her brother and retrieve the robot engine, which Will figured out could be used to detonate Alpha Centauri and end humanity… she offered courtesy and kindness to a broken robot and in doing so, was able to break it free from SAR’s programming and she wasn’t the only one to take a moment and show robot-kind that humanity is redeemable. Which brought about a robot civil war of sorts, one that sadly… didn’t end the Robinson’s way. Which meant it was up to Robot and Will and Smith, surprisingly, to save the day, and in order to bring the fight to SAR, they visited the Robot home world to try and recruit help. But alas, that plan failed, forcing Robot to sacrifice himself and save an ailing Will… so that he was ready to face SAR one last time. But their journey here wasn’t a total loss since the other vestiges of Robot-kind did give Will a new command code to use on SAR. One that mostly worked until Will realized that SAR was too strong to give into commands anymore and would do whatever it takes to complete his homicidal mission. Which is why Will let his guard down and let SAR harm him one last time. So, Robot’s hidden programming, now trapped within Will’s new heart, could infect SAR and shut him down and let Robot return to the land of the living, triumphant at last… and just like that, Alpha Centauri was saved, and this war was over. Meaning that at long last, the Robinson family found peace and were able to live together in harmony and it was simply incredible to see each of them find their own path, free from worry and danger and even Smith found redemption in this tale, which is pretty amazing in its own right and well… you cannot ask for a better finale. Because not only did this story allow for this family to finally settle down and enjoy a future on Alpha Centauri, but it also wrapped up every single plot thread the series ever introduced, and it provided all of us with an organically happy ending. One that genuinely satisfied and brought closure to fifty plus years of hopes and dreams for fans of this franchise and well, that’s it, nerds and geeks. There’s nothing left to discuss about this wondrous series, and nothing left to feel about it aside from pride. For this long and winding journey through the stars has come to its wonderful end and thanks to the wonder of streaming, we can revisit it… in all of its glory, whenever we feel the need to be inspired by the Robinsons once again.

Written by John Edward Betancourt We often think of war in a straightforward manner and understandably so. After all, what we see in regard to it, is grandiose combat. Wherein aircraft carriers and fighter jets and legions of troops, fight the good fight for the right cause and our view of war in this manner is so widely accepted that it is all the news networks will show us when war does break out and it is completely and utterly reflected in popular media as well. Since movies and shows about war and combat, feature epic battle scenes to engender awe in our hearts and remind us that while war is brutal, it can be a noble endeavor when the cause is just and true. But the fact of the matter is, that’s really not what war looks like in the slightest and thanks to fiction and the realities of the War of Terror… we are starting to come to understand its true nature. In that, cruelty is a big part of war, as is a genuine desire to inflict psychological harm upon our enemies and one way that is easily accomplished… is through torture and well before we knew what waterboarding was and the existence of Guantanamo Bay, one series out there worked to teach us about this darker side of war. For the next episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, explored the horrors of torture and that led to one powerful tale. One where the ugliness of this act was put on full display and ‘Chain of Command, Part II’ accomplished this feat by putting Captain Jean-Luc Picard in quite the difficult situation. For when we catch up with him here, he’s at the mercy of a Cardassian named Gul Madred who is eager to learn about Starfleet’s defense plans for Minos Korva, and he believes torturing the captain will help him achieve that goal. Which means, we are privy to some ugly, ugly scenes. The kind that one could debate have no place in the Star Trek Universe. Since Picard is indeed tortured before our eyes and suffers greatly. But this is a Universe as brave as they come and not showing the horrors of war and how small men are the ones that drive its darkest parts, would be a great disservice to the audience and it wouldn’t give this story the gravity it exudes. Since it really does make it clear that this part of war is the part that should concern us and that when the wrong people are in charge of it, bad things can and will happen. As evidenced by America’s actions in the War on Terror and well, the show deserves a round of applause for being this brave and for offering us an unfettered look at the true horrors of war and a warning that sadly went unheeded. But while that alone could have carried this tale, we would be remiss to not point out that this episode also takes the time to resolve the whole situation with Captain Edward Jellico. For his inability to gain the crew’s trust and his inhumanity in matters revolving around the Cardiassians, and Picard, puts him and the crew at odds and offers the viewer a way forward when it comes to bosses that bully and think they’re above it all. In that, the best way to handle idiots in that manner, is to hold true to what’s right and challenge them when it is appropriate and above all else… let them fail and fail hard and stay silent when they do. For that loneliness and apathy will in fact be a fine reminder that they brought their failure upon themselves and hopefully they can learn something from that. As to whether or not Jellico did, we will never know. Because after handing the Enterprise back over to Jean-Luc, he was never heard from in this franchise again. In the end however, this was simply a brilliant and powerful tale through and through. One that really hammered home the true horrors of war and what drives them, and it also features, some stunning performances. For Patrick Stewart is once again at his best here as he tries to navigate the house of horrors that Gul Madred has built for him and speaking of the Gul, David Warner steals every scene he’s in as that titular villain. Since he plays this dark man with a twisted zest and zeal that feels far too honest and far too real and of course, his skills an actor allow for him to play off of Patrick perfectly and well, it’s no wonder the fans hold this episode in such high regard. Because it really does have something for everyone and it really does stay with you long after it has come to an end, courtesy of its thoughtful themes and powerful moments. Until next time. Written by John Edward Betancourt Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode Six of ‘The Larkins’. To revisit Episode Five, ‘In Which Ma’s Sister Bertha Comes to Visit’, click here. One of the most important moments we will ever experience in life, is the moment that we decide to leave home and strike out on our own. Because when that day arrives, it signals that we are ready to truly become and adult and learn what the world is all about and find ourselves in the process. For it is only out in the world that we really see it for it what it is and where we fit into it. But what’s fascinating about this moment, is that as enticing as it is, and as powerful as it can be… it isn’t always easy to commit to. For leaving home is hard and the prospect of being without our family can be scary for all parties involved and it just so happens that the difficult journey to that big day, served as the focal theme of the next episode of The Larkins. For when we catch up with the family in ‘In Which the Larkins are Determined to Convince Mariette to Stay’, Pop and Ma and the rest of the fam, simply aren’t ready to let Mariette go. For they truly believe she can find everything she needs at home and in the hopes of convincing her that is the case, they ask her to stick around for a couple more days. A request she can accommodate and with Mariette settling back in, the family goes all out in showing her just how wonderful home can be. For instance, they take the time to treat her like a queen, offering her breakfast in bed often and catering to her every whim. All in the hopes of making her feel wanted and needed and important and the possibility of her leaving, finally motivated Charley to quit goofing around when it comes to his feelings. Because he finally professed his love for Mariette and informed her of how much she means to him and well, all of these moments were simply fascinating and powerful to watch. Since they truly signified how scary it is for a family to see someone leave home since it does create something of a void in the household and it also showed us, how hard it is to leave home. For the presence of someone that spent years within those walls is gone just like that, and it really isn’t easy for the family and loved ones in the slightest and of course leaving that comfort and others behind is just as tough. But commentary aside, while those gentle acts were enough to express the family’s love and need of Mariette, Pop and Ma were of course… ready to go harder to show Mariette what she’d be missing out upon by leaving. A feat they accomplished, with a bevy of parties. Such as a festival to allow for Mariette to showcase her skills as a rider and of course, a grandiose cocktail party where everyone in town showed up to express their love and adoration for her. Plus, Pop and Ma even presented Mariette with her own plot of land to spread out and enjoy her independence. But in the end, Mariette knew that the only way to truly understand what home has to offer, was to leave and see the world and enjoy its wonder and once the family realized that there was no holding her back and that she needed to be out in the thick of it for as long as necessary, they said their goodbyes and offered support and respect for her decision. But her journey away from home wasn’t a total shedding of what home has to offer. For she invited Charley along, so they could explore their newfound love abroad and make new memories together and well, that’s where we leave these lovebirds, out in the world and off to learn about life and find their path as a couple and well, that’s really the perfect way to bring this year’s general adventures to a close. Because this is a series about life, and how it transcends time and how the experiences we endure are more important than history or the moment, since that is what makes the human condition so beautiful and so compelling and well, now that we’ve reached the end of this leg of the family's journey and wait patiently for the show’s Christmas special, the time has come to hope for a second season of this dynamic series. So, the wonder of life can be put on full display once again, courtesy of a happy go lucky family that understands the wonder of enjoying the moment. Until next time. Written by John Edward Betancourt It is definitely safe to say that the crime drama/murder-mystery is in a comfortable place right now. For not only is it incredibly popular, especially on television, but it has finally found a formula that pleases audiences everywhere. One where the detective in question is whip smart and uses that intelligence to solve gritty crimes and bring supremely evil and twisted individuals to justice and what makes this so pleasing… is that it, in a way, reflects the anger present in our world and seeing a good person push through the darkness to save the day, gives us hope at a time when we need it most. But while it is nice to see murder mysteries inspire in their own magical way, formula can get stale and the clones of said formula are definitely making the genre a bit stagnant at times. Which is why stories in this vein that buck the norms and offer us more, need to be celebrated and spotlighted, since they are working to transform the genre and remind us that crime stories don’t always have to rely on one particular path and that is why Queens of Mystery on Acorn TV is of note. Because this is a murder-mystery unlike any other and we were reminded of what makes it so great, courtesy of its season two premiere. For ‘Sparring with Death’ wasted little time in reminding us of the fact that a little experimentation regarding the structure of the murder-mystery, can do wonders for it. Take for instance the opening narration of this episode, which not only refreshed us regarding the story, but quickly engaged us and enthralled us with its uniqueness. Plus, one cannot go wrong with the fact that this two hour/two part premiere genuinely takes its time in telling its story and in unfolding the mystery in question. Which revolved around the death of a health spa magnate and one of her customers, and by going this route, we were outright treated to a mystery as engaging as this world. Wherein each little clue held enough weight to leave us hungry to learn more and these clues also kept us guessing, and the taking the time to really savor these clues and their meaning allowed for incredible depth to come to life. The kind that genuinely allowed for the case to produce emotions for the viewer, and of course, the reveal of the perpetrator and their reasons for committing murder has power here and doesn’t feel akin to a gimmick in the slightest, making this quite the refreshing watch when all is said and done. But while those elements could have carried this premiere through and through, there was more to love about it. Because a great crime story means nothing without incredible and dynamic investigators and being reintroduced to our four sleuths and all of their quirks and skills was a genuine treat through and through and it helped to remind us, that this series really wouldn’t work without them and their unique dynamic. But what mattered more about the return of Cat, Beth, Jane and Matlida… was that this story made a point to grow each and every one of them in some fashion. Courtesy of a lesson revolving the need to let go of the past and embrace the present. Because if we cannot do that, we will never grow and find happiness, and it was wonderful to find that little life lesson in a story where death ruled the day. If anything, this premiere is just a fine reminder, that the crime story can be so much more than grit and bleakness and death and destruction. It can in fact, be about the wonder of life and what the people who carry on can do in the face of death. And that the genre can also be fun and engaging in a way where the audience feels in on the mystery and that’s something special right there. Since we truly love stories that find a way to include us in an organic manner, and if this premiere is any indicator of what’s to come, then we are in for quite the treat in season two. And this writer simply cannot wait to see what other lessons and wonderful moments await us as the Stone family does their best to solve impossible crimes while living life to the fullest. Until next time. Written by John Edward Betancourt More often than not, the Star Trek Universe makes a point to explore the human condition in a supremely philosophical and poignant manner. All by having the crews of the Starships Enterprise, Defiant, Voyager and Discovery and Protostar, deal with scenarios in the future that reflect our current world. Offering us commentary and context and sometimes a way forward since storytelling can be quite objective in its observations. But what is genuinely fascinating about this franchise, is that now and then… it takes the time to narrow its focus and explore some of the more mundane everyday problems that we deal with, such as workplace strife, as evidenced by the next episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. For when we catch up with the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise in ‘Chain of Command, Part I’, a big change is coming to leadership aboard the Federation Flagship. Because Admiral Nechayev comes aboard to tell Captain Jean-Luc Picard that he is being relieved of command, so he can be reassigned to a secret mission involving the Cardassians. Wherein he and Beverly and Worf will go undercover to uncover if this age-old enemy is building a new bioweapon under the Federation’s noses. Which means that command of the Enterprise is going to be handed over to a man named Edward Jellico, who has extensive experience in dealing with Cardassians and will take the ship to a meeting with Cardassian diplomats and well, it doesn’t take long for the crew to realize that Jellico doesn’t quite jell with the brave officers that have served under Captain Picard for years on end. Because his way of doing things is quite gruff in nature, to the point where he feels that orders without context and are instead full of demands, are the key to keeping a Galaxy class starship or any class ship for that matter, thriving and functioning. And his cold nature and desire to implement changes at a record pace, really does put the crew in a tough place. One where they aren’t sure how to function around a captain that seemingly doesn’t give a damn about anyone or anything but the mission and policy and well… that’s definitely familiar territory for all of us. Since we’ve all encountered or will encounter, micro managers that constantly quote regulations and SOP’s and believe their way is the only correct way and that they are always right since somehow, they have more knowledge about our job than we, the specialist do and well, this was just fascinating to see present within TNG. Since this really is an intimate and down home concept for the show to explore, one that it took one step further by in essence using this to remind us, that Starfleet is in fact, the galactic navy and much like the one down here on Earth, commanders change and new orders come to light, just like how bosses and direction change in our everyday world and workplaces and what’s even more intriguing about this episode… is that it merely offers observations on this matter and it makes sense as to why. Since this is the first half of a two-parter, and merely establishing this problem and immersing the uninitiated into what it looks like is really the key here, as is setting up the mission at hand for Picard and company, since clearly… there is far more to their mission than meets the eye, courtesy of that stunning ending. But while we wait to see what will become of a captured Picard and the crew of the Enterprise under the leadership of a little man, we can bask in the wonder of one unique and refreshing tale. One that really did a wonderful job of echoing the everyday world and the realities of the workplace and military life and honestly, that’s brilliant when all is said and done. Because it makes a show about space travel in a future none of us know, relatable and realistic, and it shows us that some of our problems aren’t quite solved just yet in the 24th Century, so we should start striving for better, now, and that just… feels organic and right, and it definitely leaves one eager for more. Because this one features a damn fine cliffhanger and what comes next for Picard and Jellico, is precisely where we will pick up, next time. Until then. Written by John Edward Betancourt Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode 206 of ‘Power Book II: Ghost’. To revisit Episode 206, ‘Coming Home to Roost’, click here. One thing that we can all agree upon, is that change is quite the scary venture. For we are creatures of habit who love routine and the comfort it affords. So, when our lives are upended and change must come into play, we are oft afraid and nervous about what comes next. But while we find a way to adjust and settle into a new routine when change becomes a necessity for us, there are some occasions where it upends our world and outright leaves us lost. For instance, when change involves no longer being in control of our lives, we really haven’t a clue what to do and truly such an alteration to our lifestyle, puts us at an important crossroads. The kind where we can either sit back and accept our new reality or fight to reclaim what we lost…. or… we find another way forward. If anything, that particular problem and that particular crossroads is top of mind today, simply because it served as the focal theme of the next episode of Power Book II: Ghost. For when we catch up with Monet Tejada and Tariq St. Patrick in ‘What’s Free?’, they are struggling to adjust to the fact that they are no longer in charge of their destiny. In fact, Monet struggled so badly with the fact that Lorenzo was home at last and back in charge, that she began to lash out at her own family over losing control. To the point where her fury found its way into a private moment with Diana and her struggles didn’t end there. Since she really did become quite listless in this tale and didn’t have a clue what her life was going to look like going forward, since it really seemed as though her plans and her path were gone. Not to mention, she was getting dragged through the mud for Tariq’s arrest since Cane’s machinations there put the family business in jeopardy. Which in turn, made it seem for a brief moment, that Monet Tejada, a brilliant schemer and opportunist was going to do the unthinkable and just give into the changes and let Lorenzo be her guide because it was the path of least resistance. Especially after she worked to cut ties with Mecca/Dante. But it turns out that Monet wasn’t going to take this lying down and opted to side with a frustrated Cane, who was being put on the back burner by dad, to revitalize the Course Connect business with Tariq to give her some semblance of control once again and time to think and breathe and for now at least… Monet is keen on playing the game and biding her time. So that eventually she can retake control of her life, and this was quite the fascinating way to see someone deal with this scenario, since one would think that lying down or fighting back is the way to handle it. But Monet is of course, always the wild card in this story, and it makes sense that she would find a third path in dealing with such matters. But while it was amazing to watch Monet adapt as needed, there was mention of the fact that she was back in business in with Tariq and that he had to deal with this wild scenario as well… and as fate would have it, he too dealt with this conundrum in a similar manner, after taking a moment to heal from his wounds of course. Because being outright blindsided by the whole Ramirez problem, really did leave the always clever Tariq besides himself. Because he simply couldn’t understand how he let this happen, nor could he reconcile the reality that he was genuinely under someone else’s thumb for a change. But thanks to Davis and Cooper’s hard work in the courtroom and an assist from Councilman Tate… he was able to mostly return to freedom and he too was quick to express his fury over the double cross in question. Making it seem as though Tariq was going to burn everything in his life to the ground out of frustration for what happened, since he went so far as to give Brayden the business. But a little time with Effie and a little time to think, helped Tariq to realize that he could in fact, use his situation to his advantage. For if he kept his nose clean and let Effie handle the business with Monet while using Brayden as his eyes and ears elsewhere… he could in fact, get the lay of the land and properly learn about his enemies’ weaknesses. Meaning that he too, will bide him time and play the game. But the difference here, is that when his time to rise to the occasion and re-take control arrives… there will be bloodshed. For Tariq is clearly ready to make those that wronged him… pay. In the end, this was simply a brilliant episode when all is said and done, since it truly took the time to address every underlying plot thread that season two has introduced in a dynamic and wonderful manner. Which in turn, forced Tariq and Monet to ponder and grow, whether that’s for the better or not is of course… debatable. But growth is critical to making a story worth the audience’s while and we are getting that, courtesy of the incredible challenges these characters are going through right now. The kind that are engaging the viewer and putting us on the edge of our seats. Because holy cow, this season just won’t let up with the surprises and the intensity and well, once again… we are left starving for more, since each and every one of us are eager to see what the next steps are for Tariq and Monet in their quest to have power and peace over their lives. Until next time. Please enjoy a trio of sneak peek clips from Episode 206 of Power Book II: Ghost, which will air on STARZ on January 9, 2022, at 9 p.m. EST. Written by John Edward Betancourt Caution: This article contains spoilers for the season finale of ‘The Pact’. To revisit ‘Episode Five’, click here. One of the biggest reasons that crime dramas are more popular than ever, is that they provide their audiences with something that everyone is genuinely craving right now… a happy ending. Because the world is a tough place these days, where bad guys and gals often evade capture or use the court of public opinion to their advantage and make themselves look like a hero. So, being able to escape for a moment and plunge our minds into a world where evil doesn’t win, really is quite satisfying. Which means that in many ways these stories are oddly providing a service to the general public right now, and they’re doing such a good job at giving us the catharsis we need, that it is extremely jarring when a show decides to buck this particular trend. But if handled right, going the more realistic route ending wise can be just as satisfying for a viewer, provided of course there are some kinds of consequences for the people involved in a criminal act and one show that has pulled that off to a tee, is The Pact on Sundance Now. For the season finale of this engaging crime drama does bring this case to a surprisingly satisfying ending. But in order to do that, it had to answer the biggest question hanging over this journey… specifically, who killed Jack. As it turns out, Tamsin was the perpetration of this crime after all, and she was driven to it by Jack’s cruelty. For not only did he see her as a sexual conquest through and through, but he also saw her as another person to manipulate and harass to satisfy his desire to exert power over everyone, and he was especially eager to use her pregnancy to accomplish those twisted goals. However, that was the wrong move to make with the headstrong Tamsin and when she was finally pressed to her breaking point on that fateful night, she did him in and in turn… confessed to her mother and Nancy what she had done, putting the family in a strange place. Because they basically had two options here. In that, they could turn her in and face the consequences of hiding information about Jack’s death… or they could protect her, and, in the end, they chose the latter. Which wasn’t an easy path to walk since Max still had a badge in his pocket and the pressures of that and the reality that she might be caught, forced Tamsin to run in an effort to be free of everything and that wouldn’t work either in the long run. Since that would in fact, show an admission of guilt. Which meant that extreme measures would have to be taken to protect the family and that gave Anna an idea. In that, she would confess to killing Jack and face the consequences so her daughter could have a semi-normal life and despite the family’s protest, she attempted to go through with it, until another surprise arrived. In that, a confession was already given to the police, by Nancy and well… her decision to sacrifice her future, allowed for everyone else to get on with their life and that is… a controversial ending for certain. Since an innocent woman went to jail, a killer walked and seemingly, no one would ever have to face the consequences for their actions on that night. But that is quite frankly, a realistic ending instead… one that mirrors some of the injustices in our world and one that is also satisfying because, not everyone got off as scot free as initially implied. After all, Louie and Cat and Tish… have to carry with them their part in this and reconcile that on their own and that might not ever be an easy task. Plus, sacrifice or no, there’s a fair chance Nancy will never see the light of day and that’s a horrific penance to pay for her actions in this tale. But what matters most, is that Anna and her family have to face the worst punishment of all. In that, they have to live with the fact that Tamsin killed Jack and that they went to great lengths to preserve an image of a family life that can never be recaptured, and that is a brave and bold way to end this tale. Since it provides us with a vastly different kind of justice, one that not everyone will find solace in but will agree, fits this story… to a tee. Written by John Edward Betancourt Caution: This article contains spoilers for Episode Four of ‘Close to Me’. To revisit ‘Episode 3’, click here. The hardest thing we will ever face when it comes to searching for the truth, is the truth itself. For when it is finally revealed to us, in all of its rough and epic glory… it is up to us to reconcile what comes next regarding our discoveries and that is a genuinely difficult venture. Since it undoubtedly means that change is coming to our lives and our perceptions of so much will be altered and reconciling that puts us in a tough place mentally… the kind where we might shatter emotionally, and really, this difficult part of the search is top of mind today… because it is precisely what Jo Harding had to deal with in the next episode of Close to Me. Of course, it took a little while for Jo to get there. For when we catch up with her, here, she is simply beside herself. Because the strong possibility that she cheated on Rob, was more than she could bear and she was genuinely worried for a time that she had in fact, slipped into the dark space that she sometimes resided within. To the point where she turned to her father and her friends to genuinely learn if by chance… she was a broken person that consistently put herself in harm’s way for reasons she didn’t fully understand just yet. But the more she leaned upon them and forced herself to really look at her broken memories to uncover her true nature… the more the truth began to come to light and that is what brought forth some tough moments for Jo. Because she came to learn that Rob has been a negative aspect of her life for some time now. A harsh reality that was revealed by way of some tough words from Nick about her time with the charity she worked at, and through her own digging regarding Rob’s finances. Since she learned that Rob’s business was closing in on insolvency and needed every dollar, she had available to stay alive. And learning those facts motivated her to really focus on Rob and the possibility that more might be wrong there and well… doing so revealed the toughest truth of all to her. In that, her husband wasn’t at all what she thought him to be. For while she was in fact, loyal and faithful… since she found out her memories of an affair were nothing more than a fantasy, her ‘loving’ husband was quite the opposite. In fact, he was having an affair with one of his employees, and said employee was now carrying his child and to top it all off… our concerns about Rob’s temper and how he treats Jo, were also realized. Since she came to learn that he has a habit of taking inappropriate action with people and well, being faced with these truths put Jo in the darkest place she’s been to date. Because now she knew, that in the past year, she faced the reality that her marriage was a lie and that her husband had the propensity to be a monster and that brought Jo to her knees quite literally since it was so much for her to process and well… in the end, that makes this episode quite the powerful affair. Because it genuinely put how difficult it is to really face the truth on display. Because minute by minute, as each memory returned to the forefront of Jo’s mind, we were forced to watch Jo process these horrors in real time and that truly takes one’s breath away. For every single one of these moments felt organic in every way imaginable and relatable. Since some of us, have gone through a similar experience and buckled in the same steady manner that Jo did here and that’s just incredible storytelling when all is said and done. Since it truly conveys the power of this journey and how hard it is to reconcile a tomorrow when everything we thought we had is a lie, and it is also, a game changing twist for this story as well. For now, Jo will be at quite the crossroads. One where she needs to decide what her future will hold and will be no easy task. Because to stick around in her current state would be disastrous now that she knows the truth and setting out on her own in a healing state is just as dangerous since she still needs time to process and heal, meaning that the next two episodes will undoubtedly be as harrowing as this one. Because now, Jo will have to make her decision and reconcile the pain that the last year has brought her, leaving all of us to wonder how this journey will end. For its stark realism and presentation of tough and taboo matters… could bring this one to an ultra realistic ending that unsettles us and the only way to know for sure… is to continue the journey and see where it takes us. Until next time. |
