Written by: John With less than a day away before Comic Con kicks off, the folks at D.C.C. and Mile High Comics clearly recognized the buzz building for such an event and felt it would be a fine idea to relieve some of the anticipation by holding a little pre party tonight at the Mile High Comics warehouse off of 4600 Jason Street, and the event did not disappoint. Stepping into the place we here at Girls at Geek first have to point out that the warehouse is definitely a dream come true for any comic book collector. Shelves and glass cases with some of the rarest of the rare are on display and within reach. But the collectibles don’t end there, as since plenty of rare toys, busts and statues are ripe for the taking as display case upon display case line the store, illuminating their gorgeous content. But while the collectibles were certainly a sight to behold, there was plenty more to see for the guests attending this evening. A live wrestling match was the bookend to an event that we had yet to experience before…a comic book auction. Chuck, the owner of Mile High Comics brought out comics ranging from $35 in value to $700 and up, allowing lucky bidders to in some cases, take home books worth $150 dollars for as low as $20. Of course some of the guests were on hand to say hello to their fans before the convention begins. Legendary artist Neal Adams was available for autographs throughout the evening and was joined by the author or “The Boy Who Loved Batman”; Michael Uslan. Mister Uslan made sure to take a few moments to speak the crowd about his book and his passion for Batman, his voyage as a boy to one of the first comic cons in the nation’s history and his journey as a producer in bringing a quality interpretation of Batman to the big screen. His excitement and love of comic books was enough to leave us wanting more for his presentation on Saturday. But most importantly, fans had the chance to pick up their passes for Denver Comic Con and the line did not disappoint. If anything this was merely a taste of things to come, with hints of the costumes we will all see, the amount of people that showed up to see Neal Adams, and the joy on everyone’s face as they moved about with comic books in hand seemed to only build the anticipation more. Thankfully tomorrow, the wait will come to an end and Comic Con will at last be here.
