In it's third year, GalaxyFest is in full swing! I had the opportunity to spend Saturday at this fantastic convention! The con itself was in the midst of it's happenings when I arrived and many costumes were to be had. I may have participated in a bit of Cosplay ourselves! Of course, one of the first places we ended up going was the bar, because that's where adults go! Also, we wanted to check out their menu selection and see the cool costumes. There was an amazing Hell Boy whom I didn't get the chance to get a picture of because every time I went to get my camera he'd disappear! Like magic! Next stop was the Dealer's Room! (or vendors room!) Upon which there were many a goodie to be had. Our Friend Eddie played an interesting game of Pirate Plink-o and won me a stress ball skull! And there, I found the most amazing of all the things in the entire Dealer's room. A Plush USS Enterprise. That's right. I now own my very own, USS Enterprise NCC-1701. And if you squeeze it…it lights up and shoots and makes the sound of Photon Torpedoes firing. Thus proving, that no matter your age, there is something for everyone at the magical Dealer's room. After a bit more glancing and a little mingling, it was time to grab a quick snack and then it was off to the Costume/Fashion show/Contest! I'm not entirely sure what happened to make GalaxyFest decide to run it like they did; but they made a great choice. I've never seen anything like this at any other con I've been to and I have been to a lot! It was innovative, fun, and very interesting! While the sound system decided to intermittently not work, the host worked with it and proved that technology malfunctioning would not stop a fun time. The show itself was interlaced with segments of belly dancers who would come on stage after sets of acts and perform their dances. Some acts were also choreographed dance moves, that told stories, others were simple fashion show like walk ons. One of the belly dancers had lights around her skirt and that was pretty cool. It's amazing what some people can pull together! There were a plethora of panels and activities still going on afterwards. By the time we left, the con showed little signs of slowing down. The food, the drinks, and the amazing people. GalaxyFest's third year was just as amazing as the first two! It was hard to leave! Thankfully, there's still all of Sunday. And that means more con fun!

Written by John Edward BetancourtOne of the best things about a convention, is the wait and mystery that goes into what guests will be attending. We all have our dream/bucket list of guests we need to see at a con and we do our best to check them off one by one. But for fans of Doctor Who, the list is slightly different. For some they have a specific Doctor that they are dying to meet. But for others, myself included, I'm just hoping to see as many of them that fate will allow. I know my chances of seeing Christopher Eccleston at a con are pretty much slim to none and that's okay, because like I said, I want to meet whatever Doctor is good with showing up. As it turns out, Denver Comic Con is helping me fulfill this wish since today they announced another incredible Doctor Who guest...the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison! Yes that's right, the Doctor that always wore a slice of celery will be arriving in the Mile High City later this year and that's just awesome. For those unfamiliar with the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison took over the role from Tom Baker in 1981 and at the time was the youngest man to play the part. He remained the youngest Doctor until Matt Smith stepped into the TARDIS. He handed over the role to Colin Baker in 1984 but did not disappear from the Whoniverse, appearing once again with David Tennant, oddly enough his future son-in-law, in a special episode named "Time Crash". But what matters most, us Whovians get to meet another legend from the TARDIS in Denver in June, and this just made the wait for Denver Comic Con all the more difficult. Written by John Edward BetancourtIt's that time again ladies and gentlemen. Denver Comic Con has once again provided us with another set of guest announcements for this year's con and believe me when I say you're going to love them. We've got a zombie killing dynamo and a science fiction legend to talk about today. Just who am I referring to? Well let's get right down to it. But before we do, make sure you pick your tickets up as soon as possible from www.denvercomiccon.com so you don't miss out on this incredible event! A 3 day adult pass is $50 and for children 12 and under a 3 day pass is $10. CHANDLER RIGGS We've watched young Chandler grow up right before our eyes in the the worst possible way on AMC's The Walking Dead and now we get to hear his take on growing up in the Zombiepocalpyse along with his other upcoming projects when he arrives in the Mile High City for his second appearance at Denver Comic Con. JEREMY BULLOCH Denver Comic Con has landed a complete and utter science fiction icon with Jeremy Bulloch. We all know him best as the enigmatic Boba Fett from the Star Wars saga, a character that has managed to become an incredible fan favorite and he will now be parking the Slave One outside the Colorado Convention Center this June! Written by ShaeJust in its third year, GalaxyFest is the premiere sci-fi convention in Colorado Springs. I have had the good fortune of going every year since the very beginning. This Con has that family feel that happens with all Colorado cons! Now, I am originally from the Springs, and I can tell you, we've never had a con there before. It certainly is something fun to go and enjoy. The family atmosphere feel is both figurative and literal! Many people bring their kids, which is, good, because it's never too early to start on the next generation of nerds!
With great deals on rooms, and a fun guest list, GalaxyFest is always a blast. The first year of its existence, I went with a friend and had the chance to meet a fun group from my own neck of the woods. To this day, Nic and Laurel are two of my best friends. The con is held at the Antlers Hilton, just on the edge of Manitou Springs, and just across the highway from a Dunkin' Donuts. Why tell you this? Because their donuts are amazing and it's a great way to start a morning at the Con! Last year, there was many a fun guest, and not to mention, a great deal of room parties! Many of which were a blast. So, anyone who knows me knows that I spend a lot of time (and money) in the dealers rooms and at the artists tables. This year it looks like they've added new programming pretty much around the clock, which is something new and extremely unique. It's an intimate con that leaves a lasting place in the heart. As far as Colorado conventions go, this has become one of my favorites. It's not only fun, family friendly, and nostalgic, but also just a great place to be. I can't wait to go with Mattie this year and see what there is to offer. I'm always looking forward to meeting new friends, so stop by and say "hi" this Saturday! |
