Written by ShaeFirst day of con is always the most exciting, and Denver Comic Con 2016 kicked off at 10am yesterday morning when the doors opened and people flooded in to experience the wonderful feeling that is DCC. It's a strange sense of home and family that can't be recreated except at the Convention Center we have come to love so dearly. Yes, it's a great feeling to be back there. This year is bigger. The convention center is slowly being taken over, which is an amazing thing! With more space we get more of the panels and dealer's room we love! Friday was a pretty incredible day to start off with, and it's one of my favorite days because it's the start of something amazing. John Barrowman took the center stage to read to the children of all ages at the Pop Culture Classroom Kids Corral. It was truly magical as Barrowman brought his special brand of energy to the story. I have to say, he's always been one of my favorite actors for many reasons, but yesterday he stole my heart on more ways that one. This convention happened because of a desire to bring literacy to children through the innovative stories that have captured the hearts of so many. Through comics, cartoons, movies, and other mediums, kids are free to not only express themselves, by learn in unconventional ways. It's a safe place for self expression. As a nerdy geek kid myself, it's nice to see kids of all ages embracing the wonders of this charity. Of course, the massive dealer's room was filled with artists, authors, and vendors alike. And me. I almost feel ashamed at only purchasing three items. The amount of POP! figures in that building alone are going to bankrupt me. I did settle on one POP!, one t-shirt, and one stuffed plush. Granted, it was just day one and there are a ton of artists with amazing pieces. The expansion of the dealer's room has left me giddy with utter excitement. Just one day down already! Opening ceremonies last night made the whole con beyond official. With every second that passes, it lends to more excitement and experiences to come. Many a friend have their schedules blocked out with all the amazing panels going on. There's something for everyone, and to make it better, there's something for everyone at every geek level. The community we have built through this con is beautiful and ever growing. I've never been so proud to be a geek than when I'm at DCC.
