If there is one thing that every couple hopes for in life, it would be a peaceful relationship. One grounded in flawless communication, emotional maturity, and maturity in general. So that when there are struggles in said relationship, any issues that arise are discussed promptly, with needs in mind so that those issues are smoothed over and resolved and peace can come into play. Which is why so many people in healthy relationships work on those very elements, to have that maturity and to easily find that peace. But alas, while all of those concepts go a long way in maintaining a healthy relationship, the reality of the matter is… there will be times that even the most communicative and healthy couples, will fight and resort to pettiness. Why exactly, is simple. Because sometimes, life comes at you quick, and sometimes you are just in the thick of it. So, you stick with what you know, you make quick and snappy choices and fights come forth, as evidenced by the next episode of Lopez vs Lopez on NBC. For ‘Lopez vs Pizza’ saw Mayan and Quentin struggling. Simply because, Mayan was a touch overwhelmed with having to run the family business and be a mother and surrogate babysitter to Oscar and George, and Quentin, was getting his rear end kicked as a new manager. Which wore them down mentally and emotionally and eventually led to a battle over who needed to do more or who needed to do less, all because they were eating way too much pizza and came to realize nothing essential was getting done. Which brought forth a very simple exploration on how the best of couples lose their way, and how easily it can happen when life just blasts chaos our way. But since this is a show that explores every aspect of family life, it also made a point to ponder upon how couples recover from that chaos, and the first lesson in such matters… is to tune out any external noise and influence. Simply because, Quinten and Mayan’s fights pushed Chance and George into Rosie’s place to get away from the tension, and they were so hellbent on enjoying the quiet time they discovered, and the pleasantness that came about from being immersed in the anthesis to chaos, that they opted… to drive a wedge further between Mayan and Quinten. Courtesy of some carefully planted words that did indeed keep the fight going for just a little bit longer. That is until the show took the time to dive deeper into how to get things back on track. Which starts… with just taking a breather. That moment to just step back and reflect on what’s really going on and what’s really the root cause of the chaos. Because once a couple can discover that, they can quickly attack it and use their skill set to resolve it and find peace again, and that is indeed what Mayan and Quinten did here, alongside offering up a scolding to mom and dad for trying to sow a little selfish chaos. Something that reminded them that they could improve as parents and do more to encourage peace and find what they wanted through what Mayan and Quinten harbor. All of which made, for one brilliant episode when all is said and done. Simply because far too often, we really do believe that the world is going to be sunshine and rainbows day in and day out. Especially when it comes to healthy relationships with someone that we truly love. But nothing is ever perfect, and mistakes will be made, the key is to head off the mess before it gets out of hand. So that the joy continues, and that moment becomes nothing more than a blip, and that really is a powerful lesson to find in some powerful storytelling. The kind we can apply to so much more than our relationships because sometimes... just slowing down… and taking a moment to process the situation when life sends pure chaos our way can accomplish wonders. And in the end, it is wonderful to know that we can receive that kind of wisdom and direction from sitcom as hilarious and as brilliant as this one. Until next time. Watch ‘Lopez vs Lopez’
