We like to believe that when a family member dies, that’s all there is when it comes to their story. For they are gone and that remains are the tears the family will shed while life quickly moves forward without the fallen. But while there is some merit to that line of thinking, since the void that their loss creates does speak to how quickly they’re gone, and the world does keep on turning… they are not so easily or quickly forgotten. After all, there are affairs that need to be handled for the dead, important ones that cement their all-important existence, and they do carry a legacy and unfinished business sometimes. Not to mention… there’s also discoveries to be made about them and ourselves after they’ve passed, and those too… keep them in our lives and in the lives of others long after they’ve gone. If anything, those elements regarding the end of a life are top of mind today, simply because Camille and Issei were forced to deal with them in the next episode of Drops of God on Apple TV+. That is of course, after their new challenge was laid out in ‘The Link’. For when we caught up with them here, they were back at the lawyer’s office to see what new challenges their father had put forth for them, and test two… was quite the doozy. Simply because Alexandre wanted them to identify the wine that accompanied the painting, he presented in class to Issei’s mother and stepfather long ago. Which of course… put them to work in finding that answer to bring each of them one step closer to their inheritance, and while they were trying to figure out that particular mystery… they began to deal with legacy and surprise knowledge. Camille for instance, in between failing at trying to make a deep and romantic connection with Thomas and in between tasting an unwholesome amount of wine… was approached by Luca and her father’s publisher about taking up quite the mantle. Specifically, becoming the new writer of Legér’s Guide, a move that would keep the book alive and keep people informed regarding wine, and who better to write it… than the daughter of the man that taught her everything and had a palate as refined as her father’s… and knew how to write as well. Which was a move that put her in a reflective and joyous place since there was real potential for something special here, and Camille’s journey really spoke to how there are ways that people live on in death and how their legacy can endure. As for Issei… well… his journey was far more complex. For not only was he basically told that he was going to be shunned with or without a win by his grandfather, but he also had to reconcile that while looking for his (step) father. And in trying to uncover clues regarding his whereabouts, Issei began to go down a very unique rabbit hole. One that explored his mother’s past and her time at school studying under Alexandre, and that… brought him face to face with the interpreter that worked in the classroom who basically dropped a massive bomb upon him. In that, the man he thought was his father, was not his father. That he was instead the son of Alexandre Legér and that… will change a great deal for this young man… and his journey absolutely hammered home… the surprises and secrets that are revealed when people pass on. If anything, this was a supremely unique story when all is said and done. Largely because it really did take the time to slow things down and focus heavily on the Legér descendants as they processed the end of Alexandre and what lies ahead and what was kept hidden. Which is just something you don’t see all that often in stories that revolve around death and loss and the days following the end of a life, and it was welcome to see that here and explore what people endure in those days following a farewell, and it was also a delight… to see the truth revealed. Since it ups the stakes now for Issei and changes the dynamic between, he and Camille through and through and could potentially, make a cordial fight a nasty one… or prompt these two to strategize and the only way to find out for certain which way they go… is to continue this fascinating journey through the world of wine… and life. Until next time.
